    This was my first time trying an indoor rowing class. How did I not try this sooner??? I've done dragon boat racing, kayaking and recently rowing in an infared sauna, so I was curious to try this. It's a rigorous but low-inpact workout. They offer one free class for each person. There were different packages available and classes are available via ClassPass. The room starts off with lights on, then throughout the class, it felt almost club-like and synced with the music/workouts, definitely set the mood. The location itself is very clean and well-maintained. Towels are provided for anyone who needs it. They have a milestone section for rowers who row a certain distance, the reward may include merchandise and/or pics with the backdrop/rowing machine. Rob and Laura had explained the different classes before and after I signed up. Of the different classes they offer (Express Full Row, Restore, Strength, Signature, Intervals), I tried the Full Row and Strength: Full row with Suzy "Sunshine": I was hesitant to try this on a Saturday morning, but signed up and loved every minute! It was Suzy's birthday and boy was her energy through the roof! This energy also resonated with the crew members. Everyone was so welcoming and encouraging. Strength with Joe: This included rowing as well as weight-lifting in between. I loved the rowing. but not so much incorporating weights. Everyone was in sync, which made it easier and fun. Since it was my first time taking the Strength class, I was unsure which weights to select and at what point of the class we would use them. Upon completion of each class, an email is received with the stats, which is encouraging. There's plenty of parking around the building, shared by other businesses. Would I return? for sure!

    Where do I even begin ?.... Amazing atmosphere, people, and overall workout! This place has had such a positive impact on me. Everyone shows up for one another and although it's a group class , you really challenge yourself in your own goals when crushing the class together! If you want a positive uplifting workout that SHOWS results this is your place!! All the coaches are amazing. I've been a member for 4 years now!!

    Why did I wait so long to try this ?!? It's probably the only place around with a 7:15pm class during the week which is about the only time I can go during the week and the reason I tried here. I am new to rowing and while it is low impact, don't let that fool you. The instructors are engaged the whole time whether it be a class of 30,45, or 60 minutes, they do not stop motivating you and encouraging / reminding you to use proper form the entire time. They shout out those in the class who hit their rowing meters milestones during the row or they just go around the room saying your name and a motivational line during the workout. They have multiple classes throughout the day and the entire week. They seem to take notice in the scheduling when they rotate the different classes through the same time. For example, Monday at 7:15pm one week is a strength class and the next week it's a full row class at the same time. There are five different class types and each includes some time stretching, using weights, or core work so you aren't spending the entire time on a rower which can be very intimidating when you watch the class get into a synchronized swing and you are tired and need a break. The time spent off the rower allows for a water break too. The gym is very clean. The instructor walks around at the end of the class/ during the cool down and gives you a wipe to clean the machine and your weights. They provide towels, toiletries, and a water fountain. During the class, the instructors adjust the lights depending on if it's a go your own pace they will lower the lights all the way down or if trying to get in a swing ( whole room going back forth at the same time) they lighten the room up. They send you stats after every class so you can see your distance and time which is nice to see how you get better. Rowing is about form so get there early for your first class for the coach to show you the moves. They also have intro classes to get to know the forms and studio. I have only just started going but I have enjoyed it so much. The group setting and music that is perfectly timed to the moves is so fun.

    Took the Full Row class with Jesse! It was my first time doing a row class and the energy was unmatchable to any workout class I've taken. During the entire class, you are encouraged to be in sync with each other and it was kind of beautiful to be all rowing together. Definitely recommended to be there 10-15 minutes early so you can get familiar with the row technique and machine. Jesse was lovely with helping me understand the screen metrics and what to expect in the class. I've never pushed myself as much as I did in this class. The music was bumpin'! If you are looking for something easy on your knees, rowing is a great option. I liked how I was able to push my body without straining and stressing.

    Love Row House!!!! Such a fun way to have a low impact cardio workout! You really feel the impact and it is fun how they make everyone feel like a part of the class. My favorite was Jason's class....but they are all awesome and fun!!! I highly recommend!!!!!

    This year was my first time at Cyclebar, I didn't even know this place existed!…read more During my first visit I was welcomed by Kena Campbell, the class instructor. The next visit, I was greeted and assisted by multiple staff. Everyone was very nice and welcoming and great at remembering names! I love the atmosphere and lighting of the studio. They definitely maintain the location very well. Everything was organized and clean. My first ride, I loved the use of the weight bar in between cycling. I also enjoyed Nora and Isaiah's classes. While I didn't enjoy the connect class (too much choreography to follow!) I loved the playlists and energy. Would I return? for sure!

I had never been to this particular location before, and given the area demographics, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I actually really enjoyed the class and got one of the better Sculpt & Flow workouts I've had in a while. The class was pretty packed for 8 AM on a Sunday, but we worked so many different things and I burned more than 400 cal. The instructor was just super nice overall and did a great job motivating quotes and also demonstrating the moves. If you've been to a YogaSix before, it's the same jam: Flow water dispenser, restrooms, one studio room, decent heat. I would def return.

I love that they dimmed the lights, which set the mood. The music was loud at times, so a bit hard to hear the coach, otherwise perfect. They definitely take pride in their studio by keeping it clean. After each class, they go in and clean/sweep the studio. They sell alo mats, but everyone can bring their own mats or rent one. A drop-in class is $10, which isn't too bad. I didn't get a chance to find out about the memberships as I booked through ClassPass. There is plenty of parking directly in front and also shared by surrounding businesses. Would I return? absolutely!

And I know that may be a cliche but it isn't. This is a community gym. The atmosphere is kind and supportive no matter who you are or your fitness level. For reference I am a 30 year old woman and have friends here that are twice my age. I've never felt pressured, bullied or creeped out once. Now let's talk about the staff... Brent. Brent, is the manager and has been since I joined. He has built a wonderful team and as far as I can tell a pretty positive work environment for everyone. He always remembers my name despite the fact that I've hardly ever worked with him directly. Wendy. Wendy is exceptional with members and our community. She always waves and stops to talk to me when she passes. And I'm pretty sure she knows everyone at this point :) I've made friends with many of the trainers here and so will you. Let's see who we've got... Zoe. Zoe is someone I've known for two years now and have actually become close friends with. She is without a doubt the nicest woman I've ever met. She knows a lot about running and cardio, so if you've got the thrill for a race she is your girl! Dan. Dan is a character and who many people turn to for advice about basic movement mechanics and health. Oh and he is pretty much athletic in everything. Just ask what he does in his free time. Haha Chris. Chris is a rockstar. He does classes in the early mornings along with a few other trainers and is consistently a happy guy. He will always try to make you laugh...don't tell Dan I said that. Stacy. I don't know Stacy very well but I know she works hard and is an early bird that loves to run. She has always been very sweet and kind towards everyone. I can't list all the people that make this place great but these are definitely the people that have influenced me the most. For the first year at Oak I worked out almost every day and every day I was greeted with the same kindness and support. Without that I'm not sure I would have stuck out with my journey. I can now do 5 pull ups in a row, deadlift over 220lbs and hip thrust over 300lbs. These are just a few of the goals I've set and reached for myself and I'm so glad I was able to accomplish them in such a place as Oak. If you have toured the place you already now how clean it is and that there are countless showers and lockers to choose from. Equipment is kept clean and ready to use. I hardly see a broken piece of equipment. And if I have it doesn't stay broken for long. Not all gyms are great so if you thought this place doesn't have enough to offer I think I can gladly state that it does. So if you are thinking about joining please don't hesitate. It's worth it. Roxanne and her cleaning crew are the best for this facility. This ensures that everything runs smoothly and that there are no unexpected interruptions. This level of organization reduces the time you spend looking for equipment and allows you to focus more on your workout. The overall atmosphere is one of a kind and everyone who works here treats everyone with respect, making it a place where you can feel comfortable and motivated to achieve your fitness goals!!

I do wish they have a squat rack, ski erg, standing leg press and paired kettlebells, but everything else is good! Just have to use alternative equipment or do alternative exercises! No biggie. The gym is fairly clean, and the staff are pretty good about replenishing paper towels to wipe down equipment before and after use. I haven't used the showers at this location yet, but there's a handful of them in there if you need them. They have hydromassage chairs and a couple regular massage chairs that have been useful to me a couple times after a workout. The staff are always friendly and greet you when you walk in or are walking out. They are also helpful when you have questions. I had a couple questions about bringing a guest in. They were patient when it was time to bring my guest in, and I had no idea how the process goes. Overall, pretty solid gym. I will continue to use it because of reasonable price and what I really need it for.

Some improvements I've noticed lately:…read more - More frequent communication on social media and elsewhere digitally to members about happenings at the gym - Equipment repairs and even replacements of things like rope attachments for cables are happening quickly - Cleanliness overall is really good; I almost always see someone cleaning something when I'm there - Staff has been very friendly and helpful I also recently got a second gym membership at Planet Fitness* and have tried out several of their locations in northern Virginia since. And it's very clear what the difference between a ~$20 membership and a ~$60 membership get you. Compared to the 'chain gyms,' TFE is: - Way cleaner and better maintained, especially the locker room - Has a sauna, always a big bonus - Has additional strength training equipment, 1:1 cables, and weights that go up higher for those of us who are more experienced *Three big reasons I sprung for the outside membership: 1) TFE hours are rough sometimes to fit into my schedule especially the weekend hours. 24/7 gym is a necessity for me sometimes, even if I have to settle for a slightly less intense facility. 2) The day passes are so expensive. I imagine I can't be the only person who has a significant other or family member who doesn't live in the area but visits frequently enough to want to come to the gym. My girlfriend lives in Arlington so it'd be crazy for her to pay this gym's membership price to workout on the weekends with me, but it's actually cheaper for me to get a black card at PF than to buy even a couple day passes at TFE. I would recommend to TFE to think up its own version of a black card to allow for unlimited guests, perhaps throw in some massages at the salon inside the facility, etc. 3) It's month-to-month so there's no risk involved to try it. I understand why non-chains can't do this though as they likely rely on the people who sign up and then never come to keep crowds down but stay operational. Overall, TFE is great and you seem to get what you pay for compared to cheaper chain gym options, but I would love better weekend hours and more flexibility in bringing occasional guests as part of the membership.
