Was craving some good Cajun food and am so lucky to have stumbled upon Roux Dat! There is not too many staff but our food was brought out fresh and quickly. CATFISH & FRIES PLATE: Crispy and flavorful. Paired well with the aioli and slaw CRAWFISH MAQUE CHOUX: Each bite had the perfect amount of veggies to protein to stew to rice. Nice slice if garlic toast on the side BEIGNETS: Despite some reviews mentioning the hollowness of the beignets, I actually enjoyed them! There is no filling in the beignets but the interior is so hot and fluffy that I don't think it even needs filling. Plus they give a milky vanilla dipping sauce on the side which you can scoop in as filling if you'd like. Good amount of open tables (went at 5:30pm, but it did get busier as we ate). Staff were all very nice!

Crawfish stew , smallest of the 3 sizes but your can sample all the other stews per cashier

6/9/25 I stumbled upon a Cajun Creole place in Capitola it was so random. Instead of key word searching yelp sometimes I drive around city and towns strip shopping enters and just by choice I try a spot that sounds good. I am a fan of Cajun food so Roux Dat it was. Not busy at all, I was immediately greeted and welcomed by an enthusiastic young man. He gave me some rice after I asked and he said to try a stew. I ended up ordering a shrimp Po' boy as it was lunch time. This is located next door to Wing Stop and Trader Joe's so it's in a popular prime spot but easily to drive past as the signage is not that large . The stew I chose was crawfish and sausage the tiniest size and it was good and large enough surprisingly. The team of employees were 2 very young individuals. They were respectful answers all questions and were very polite. It looks like a family run spot so I was happy I dined in . The place is very clean lots of tables with various hot sauces .Lots of young people as summer time now and GameStop also next door. Outdoor umbrella tables and the inside didn't have A/C in at a comfortable level . Service with a smile by the young lady working you feel valued here. The price with drink came to around $21 less than Bay Area prices suffice to say. Noticed the lifestyle and vibe around Santa Cruz and Capitola and beach cities is super chill. Traffic around town can get annoying because the lack of lanes and too many vehicles is substantial. The Po boy shrimp was very satisfying they fried their shrimp with good Cajun seasoning not too spicy. The shrimps are medium sized. The bread is not too hard just right and soft to medium crunch. Free refills on soft drinks. While eating I noticed some young people coming in to drop off resumes for employment so it looks like they could use a hand .They accepted her resume . I never thought I would find a Cajun/creole place so easily in the Capitola area . Having the sea and wharf nearby you can count on fresh seafood used I didnt ask them but I am confident they are utilizing the best ingredients as the freshness of the food did give the impressions . The high ratings for this place are legit and speak for themselves. Capitola is lucky to have this cuisine in town.

Food was soo flavorful ,well seasoned. I like to eat the shrimp and corn etouffe WITH the corn bread . I like to dip it. it's soooo good !! Ordering over the phone was so easy . When picking up the cashier was super nice . He make sure there was napkins and utensils in my bag! Shrimp &corn etouffee 10/10 Corn bread 10/10 Gumbo 9.5 /10 Customer service10/10 Food presentation 10/10

This was truly a letdown after our friends hyped this place up to us. I was really hoping for some honest southern soul from this meal. It's in a strip mall, so I already tempered my expectations about the ambiance, which was pretty average. We got the shrimp and corn etouffee, and I can't for the life of me figure out why they use the cheap frozen little shrimp instead of 5-6 large ones. The whole thing was overly salty and I wasn't satisfied with this at all. Sadly, I think Popeye's has a more flavorful etouffee. We also got the fried catfish plate with the fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw was off. I'm 99% sure of it. I had a bite and pushed it aside. The fries were okay, but again, over-seasoned and salty. And the catfish... was a disservice to catfish. It looked a lot better than it tasted. The folks working there were pretty friendly and a little stoned, which was totally fine. You order at the counter and it's self service. There's not a whole ton of seating but we were able to get a nice table outside and that was good enough for our group. 2 stars because everyone was nice and the meal was quick to come out, but the food was just not memorable at all. Not sure it's worth a retry.

We have been eyeing this place for a while. I had a medical procedure in Santa Cruz. That was very close to this restaurant and my wonderful hubby saw that it was close to my procedure and we decided we would go eat there after everything was said and done. When we arrived, there was two other tables sitting in the restaurant. The service was OK kind of awkward however there was a young gentleman with long black hair that was very kind. He offered me a sample to see if I would like some thing before I bought it, which I did feel was extremely kind . Now to the food. Let me start off by saying when we traveled to New Orleans it was one of our favorite places ever we made so many wonderful memories and ate so much delicious food. That's why this place was so high on our radar. The food was definitely delicious. I had a shrimp Poboy , the breading was slightly salty but definitely crunchy and delicious. My love had the fried oyster Poboy. He said it was pretty dang good. For his side dish, he chose the jambalaya. It was absolutely delicious. Like phenomenal out of this world and I was jealous I didn't order one for myself lol it was packed with chickenand the flavor... bomb! We like to try a little bit of everything so we also ordered the mac & cheese fried pickles and hush puppies. The only thing I didn't really care for in our whole meal was the macaroni and cheese. It wasn't what we were used to and maybe because of it being one of our favorites, we have a very high expectation for the mac & cheese lol the fried pickles were good. It was the first time having them so we didn't know what to expect. Or nothing to compare them to, but that's OK because they did taste pretty good. The hush puppies were actually bomb. Very moist in the middle flavorful and the perfect size. I had got Cajun french fries on the side for my sandwich. They were good nothing super crazy special but definitely had good flavor. I enjoyed them. We definitely want to come back. There are other things we would love to try and I would definitely like to bring my mom here to check it out as well again I wish the service was a little bit more enthusiastic. We had a lot of questions about the menu and , the younger kids didn't seem too interested. The young man with the black hair did seem like he really wanted to let us know what he could just maybe be a little shy. I appreciate him for trying.. he was sweet just a little quiet.

Way too good. Amazed at how good the prices are here considering good creole food is usually super pricey. Roux Dat is really reasonable in price but WOW, food is so good. We got enough food for 2 meals for 2 people, for $40. The fried green tomatoes though...we almost cried. It's almost impossible to find good FGT in California but these ones are above & beyond. Even without the sauce they're super flavorful, and the sauce is bomb. Considering going back tomorrow just because it was so good.

Hush Puppies, Fried Green Tomatoes, and a large stew with the Smoked Andouille, Shrimp & Chicken Jambalaya and Crawfish Maque Choux

Angelina S.

Great casual spot with outdoor seating for a quick dinner! We got the hush puppies, fried green tomatoes and the large stew option with the shrimp, andouille sausage and chicken jambalaya and the crawfish maque choux. It was my first time trying maque choux and it might be my new favorite Cajun dish!

Paulette D.

We went near to closing time and there was some people ordering food. You order at the county and the service was super fast. We got the fried green tomatoes, the crawfish and sausage maque choux, and the fried catfish sandwich. The fried green tomatoes were ssoo hot temperature wise. We ate them fast because we took a bite and they were still warm. They were so crispy and good once we let them cool off. The sauce was amazing too. We could not get enough of the crawfish choux!! we wish we had more of it since we only got the small. The Cajun bread was delicious and a good pairing. The catfish sandwich was pretty average, just wish there was more catfish in the sandwich

Came in here first thing on a Saturday morning with hubby. It was a a really wet day. We're out of towners visiting for the weekend. Came in and was greeted right away and he also wanted to give us him and use as well but I told him it was okay. I asked for a few suggestions, and he gave me what their best sellers were. Hubby at the ordering hush puppies, a side of fried chicken and a beer. I ordered a large plate where I was able to split the gumbo and the jambalaya with white rice and Cajun bread. The food did not take that long to come out about 10 minutes tops. Hush puppies were good and so were the fried chicken it was very tender. Jambalaya does have a little kick to it if you don't like spicy. Jambalaya was all right but the gumbo was the better pick For me. For what the price is you get a decent amount of food. We will definitely be back again to try other things if we're back in town. there is only one bathroom there and it's gender neutral. and a decent amount of seating inside and some outside.

Olivia M.

If you like cajun food you have to come here. This place is truly a hidden gem, hidden in between a bunch of businesses. It was fairly quiet when we walked in and all tables were open. We were greeted and were able to order at the counter. I cannot say enough fantastic things about their po'boys. I got a shrimp one and it was fully dressed. The shrimp itself was well breaded and cooked/seasoned. The baguette was so so soft and fresh. The vegetables and sauce inside were also chefs kiss. You also have a choice of a side between fries, coleslaw or stew. I wish I would have been hungrier, I'd likely give the jambalaya a shot.

Karen r.

Day trip in Capitola, wanted good food, came here and was not disappointed! I wanted Cajun food because I'm going to New Orleans in a few weeks. The hardest part was deciding what to order, everything on the menu sounded amazing. Food was delicious, cute decor, and really nice service. Also, easy parking. This place is definitely worth a visit.

Étouffée, gumbo, jumbalaya, maque choux, hush puppies, beignets

Amy H.

I have stopped here twice so far, both times on purpose, meaning I came to this plaza just for Roux Dat. I appreciate good stew and good beignets, both of which I'll happily say I've received on every trip I make to this place. We ordered 2 large pick twos: jambalaya and shrimp and corn étouffée, and crawfish and sausage maque choux and chicken, okra and sausage gumbo. The gumbo and jumbalaya were my favorites. We also ordered hush puppies and beignets. Although the place was busy when we went, I didn't have to wait too long for our food to come out, and it was all fresh, hot, and tasty. Beignets were a nice dessert after all the rice and stews; coated with powdered sugar and freshly fried. I wish I had some right now...

This place is so good! We got the shrimp po boy, spicy shrimp and corn ettouffee, andouille and crawfish soup, and beignets. Everything was super tasty, the sandwich didn't get soggy even after 20 min in the box, and everything was seasoned perfectly. Nothing was too spicy (which was great for me) but had lots of flavor. The beignets came with a rum sauce and weren't quite cafe du monde, but still good read more

This is a very much delayed review but we still wanted to share it! We visited this place in October during a physically distanced and masked getaway to Capitola from Sacramento. There was outdoor seating that was shared with another eatery. So excited to see a few veggie options for my partner who loved his veg jambalaya and I had the shrimp po boy! Both were as authentic and flavorful as we could remember from certain Cajun eateries in New Orleans! We hope to go there sometime soon in our next getaway hopefully soon. read more

I could not recommend this place more. At about $11 a plate for their stews, that comes with a side of rice and garlic bread, I find this place extremely worth while. You are even able to choose 2 stews from about 9 other choices so you can definitely mix and match flavors and try a little bit more every time you come here, and if you're like me, this is definitely going to be frequented. 100% recommend this place, especially on a cold day when a belly full of delicious stew is the best thing imaginable. read more

For a vegan this place has only one thing that's vegan which is damn good! I just wish there were more Vegan dishes. As for the dish for itself, it is good for a cold day to stay inside or when your sick. So sort of like a soup! The rice is so good when you mix it with the soup! The slices of bread are warm and crunchy! It's amazing! read more

The food is excellent, the facility is very clean and they have outdoor seating. My husband and I decided to drive to the beach on a whim and after a whole day at the beach we were understandably hungry which is how we ended up finding Roux Dat. Their fried green tomatoes and beignets with rum sauce are top notch. We also ordered the catfish and crawfish maque choux. The food is delicious and I really loved how they offered different serving sizes. Size small is perfect if you're just one person. This place is an absolute gem. Well...I was shocked!!!! In a good way. I was born and raised in South Louisiana and have lived all of the country. This may be the first place outside of Louisiana that has ever gotten the po' boy right. It's the bread, everyone always messes up on the bread. You can't just use anything. On top of that I can get pretty fresh Abita beer and Crystal hot sauce. Everyone thinks people likes Tabasco but our favorite is Crystal. My wife loved the gumbo and I can promise that I will be back. The only downfall is I live up the mountain and don't make it down to Capitola much...that may change now. Get a White Russian Daiquiri machine and I may never leave. Please don't close. read more

I've lived a couple blocks down the street from this establishment fir 5 years and today was the first time I walk through the door and bought food. The menu just sounded so warm and yummy on this gloomy cold, rainy day and let me tell you they did NOT disappoint! The hush puppies were banging and the chicken, sausage, shrimp stew was perfect. We got a variety of items to sample and share, but those 2 were my fava favs! Just enough zip in the sausage slices to keep your attention but not too smokim that someone that had spice issues couldn't handle. We also tried the shrimp Po Boy, the flavor was good but I would have enjoyed more or bigger shrimp in the sandwich , it was just a little too much bread for me. The prices, I thought, were reasonable, considering Burger King thinks a single patty burger holds a $8 value and KFC is charging $30 for 8 misc PCs of chicken (but it is good chicken!). Just saying...I would definitely recommend this place for lunch, especially to warm your belly on a cold, wet Santa Cruz day. read more

It was a nice atmosphere for the restaurant. After reading through yelp... I had to try it. Ehhh. We had two "choose two" dishes. Spicy crawfish and Gumbo and the other was Shrimp and corn ettouffee with redbeans and sausage. The dishes come hot and look and taste fresh. Now the reality I want to know is there anyone in the kitchen from The big easy? Every dish was pretty heavy on the rosemary and bland on salt. Rosemary feels out of place with southern dishes in general... I would like to try a few of the sandwiches, mainly to get all the dishes tried! Top notes: The bengiets were delicious as were the pralines read more

We ordered way ahead of time (3 hours before pick up). When we came to pick it up it was not ready and we waited 20 minutes for an order that should have been ready at 6:45. Drove all the way home only to discover they left out one entire entree and 2 sides. When I called to say my husband would be driving back and we would like it to be ready the gal on the phone was extremely rude and told me "I won't be talked to like that"... I said nothing to her besides the fact that they forgot part of our order and we would like it ready when my husband arrives. She then said "I'll add a little something special in it for you". Gross I don't trust her! Not sure if I even want to eat the food now. Portions are extremely small we will see how it tastes. read more

Came in on a weekday during lunch, there was no line so I was excited. I ordered a lunch special and picked the chicken po' boy which came with fries and a drink as well as an order of beignets to go. All of that came to $19+ which I thought was a bit steep. Like I said, there was no line when I arrived, and the 2 tables with people sat already had food. Despite this my food took quite a long time to come out. Like, 15 minutes which was excessive. So my food arrived and no beignets. I ate my po' boy and it was tasty, don't get me wrong. The chicken was really flavorful and moist, and the fries were delicious, no sauces needed. However, my po' boy construction was a bit sloppy and I lost filling with each bite. Once I finished my lunch I still didn't have my beignets to go, mind you it's been 30+ minutes at this point. I had to go up to the counter and ask them, and then they were given to me in a thin paper bag that quickly turned greasy (they could've double paper bagged it, or invested in the thicker brown paper bags). Food is good, but it wouldn't be my go to, especially if I want a cheaper or quick meal. I do want to go back and try their stews though. read more

Hadn't been there in a while since they moved to new spot next to trader joes and ate dinner there last night and from the parking lot it looked closed. The open sign was not turned on and it was kind of dark inside and couldn't see anyone inside... We walked up to the door thinking bummer... its closed. but we pushed the door and it opened. Walked inside, and said "hello?" A kid came out of the back to take our order I told him the open sign wasn't on and it looked closed. "Oh" he said and never turned the sign on the entire time were there from 6:30 to 7Pm. It was just really weird. And we were the only people there the entire time. Liked the food though! Fried catfish and sweet potato fries and some jambalaya was all good. read more

Best soul food that we've had in a long time and we didn't have to drive to Oakland. The fried catfish just the way that Dad used to make. Simple menu. No frills. Even though small in size, at least they focus and value the local catch. To that I had to show my interest. I saw they opened a newer store in north Santa Cruz in a new and hip retail complex called The Swift Street Courtyard. That one seems to be more geared toward prepared foods/product as that complex is a food and drink destination, breweries, wine tastings and coffee shops all around. This one is mostly a raw fish market. Mostly filleted and pan-ready items. Not sure if you can request a whole fish here but my guess is you can if you establish a correspondence with the employees. But in a small cooler up front they also have some prepared seafood items ready to grab n go. They have tuna poke, some ceviche, and some smoked salmon deviled eggs. They may have more things but the slowish day I went, that seemed the selection. Rockfish Ceviche ($14/4*) my receipt said halibut ceviche but the container label said rockfish. Not sure what I got but the nice chunks of fish were nice and whitish from the citrus cure, clean and meaty. Which ever I got, it was delicious. There was sliced raw onions, cucs, tomato, jalapeno and cilantro which made for a standard but satisfying ride. Everything was in nice big chunks which I tend to like more than when Mexican places finely chop it to where you can't really identify anything anymore. Only thing I wished I had access to were some squirts of hot sauce and some tortilla chips. But since this wasn't a sit-down resto situation I had to make due. Smoked Salmon Deviled Eggs ($8/3.5*) You only get 3 halves so basically an egg n a half. I think they should give at least 4 halves to even things out if being shared. But the smoked salmon is beaten into the yolk mixture so you can't really see or identify it. Upon chewing the deviled egg, you will taste a smidge of smoked salmon. It's not strong or in your face but it will remind you that something else is there. I wished it were more identifiable or obvious, but it was still pretty tasty especially with the hits of tobiko. They had one of my favorite Asian brands of iced green tea which was a nice surprise. And after swimming and lying around on the hot beach down the street, this made for a refreshing snack break. Even though I wished there were better seating and amenities this filled a void on a weekday when the restaurant upstairs was closed. Nice find and I'll try and buy some local fish from their market next time I'm around. And I sure as heck am gonna try their newer and more visible location.

Now, I say "prawns" because apparently there was a little seafood identity crisis happening -- they were actually shrimp! Outside of that little prawn/shrimp confusion, everything was exceptionally good. The roasted chicken was delicious, the black rice was really good, but those black beans were FIIIIRRREEE! They had this amazing smoky flavor that I absolutely loved. Seriously, those beans were ridiculously good. The Linguine Cruise was also excellent, and even though my "prawns" turned out to be shrimp, they were still damn good! The restaurant itself is huge, clean, and has plenty of seating, with a killer bar that I really liked. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming, and the staff were super friendly, funny, and genuinely enjoyable to deal with. Overall, I really liked this place. The exterior doesn't do the restaurant justice. Inside, the dining room and patios are beautifully decorated, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. There's plenty of space for both small and mid-sized groups. The food was fabulous! We started with the calamari, which was honestly some of the best I've ever had, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. We also ordered the seasonal Caprese (tomato stack) salad, which was incredibly fresh with a wonderful combination of flavors. Even the complimentary bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar stood out. The balsamic was so good I forgot to ask what brand they use so I could buy some for home! Our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful. When I ordered the fettuccine with steak, she thoughtfully confirmed whether I wanted the Gorgonzola Alfredo or the traditional Alfredo sauce. I chose the traditional Alfredo, and it was absolutely perfect. I shared it with my daughter, so the photo shows about half of the original portion. Everyone at our table loved their meals. The rotisserie chicken received rave reviews as well, although I forgot to take a photo. If the weather is nice, don't miss the outdoor patios. There's a table for six near the fireplace that looked especially inviting. I wanted to take a picture, but I couldn't get the angle without including other diners in the frame. I also tried the watermelon martini, which was refreshing and delicious, and the wine pours were generous. If you're in Aptos, this restaurant is absolutely worth a visit. We'll definitely be back.

The guy asked me to sit down at a table with him to explain portion sizes and the guy had slurred speech and an extremely strong smear of liquor radiating from him. I asked if he is on the clock and he said I will be in a few minutes. Doesn't seem like a good idea to be wasted at work. This guy has created some very good tasting foods (hence why I like to return) and the prices are reasonable. Even though this guy was wasted today, it won't detour me from returning for the 5 star food flavors! In hindsight, that's partly on me since seafood fettuccine isn't exactly a dish I usually expect to be exceptional anywhere. The Alfredo sauce was bland and needed a lot of pepper to bring some life to it. Most of the seafood was overcooked and chewy, particularly the fish. The clams were probably the best part of the dish and were cooked reasonably well. Overall, the view was fantastic, but beyond that, the meal didn't do much for me. We were headed to Capitola to do a little shopping and wanted to try somewhere new and yummy for dinner. This came up on Yelp with all great reviews and after eating here we definitely know why. This place is definitely a hidden gem, in the Bed & Bath shopping center across from the mall. Had we not been looking for it we would have missed it. The service is great, the cook and lady taking our order were both friendly and helpful in explaining each dish. We decided on the fried chicken po' boy sandwich and the crawfish etouffee. OMG, the flavor is out of this world yummy! Spicy and hearty, definitely not lacking in flavor one bit. And as if the flavor of the food wasn't enough, what made this dining experience even better was the prices. Every dish is soooo affordable I couldn't believe it. The food quality and service were that of a fine dining establishment; however, to my delight I was able to walk out of there full, satisfied and with money still in my pocket. Check out this little gem, you will not be disappointed. read more

I was craving a taste of New Orleans and Roux Dat did not disappoint. My son and I drove from Hollister to get our gumbo on. Very easy to get to from the freeway across from the mall. Quaint location with Zydeco music welcoming you in. We were hungry and ordered two half and half's of Jambalaya/red beans and sausage as well as shrimp and corn etouffee/crawfish maque choux. For good measure we also got a shrimp po' boy to share. All were excellent! Taste and seasoning were spot on with what I was expecting. Red beans and sausage was our favorite. Po' boy was was very good with fresh cornmeal crusted shrimp cooked to perfection. Still had some room left for beignets. Please don't do yourself a disservice and skip these. Arguably the best part of the meal. The rum dipping sauce was amazing. Wish I didn't have to share. Also grabbed two packs of pralines for later since I had to fit in the car for the ride home. I will definitely return soon. read more

If you're looking for a taste of New Orleans in Capitola, look no further than Roux Dat! Their po'boy sandwiches are the real deal and remind me of my favorite spot in NOLA. The bread is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and the fillings are overflowing with flavor. I ordered the fried catfish but I'm sure their other ones are just as good. What's even better is that Roux Dat is incredibly affordable, especially considering the quality and quantity of the food. You'll get a filling and satisfying meal for a fraction of the price you'd pay at other Cajun restaurants in town. My only wish is that Roux Dat had a location closer to where I live, but it's definitely worth the drive. If you're a fan of Cajun and Creole cuisine, do yourself a favor and check out Roux Dat - you won't be disappointed! read more

If there is a way to give 0 stars, I would... Food was ridiculous. I was wondering why it was a high rated place but was empty when we got there. We ordered the Crawfish stew and Jumbalaya combo, Cajun fries, fried pickles, and a Coke. Best things were the fries and Coke, honestly.. The fries and pickles came first. Piping hot! Was a good sign... until I noticed it came out in a bowl. Pickles were soggy and not crispy. Food came out next. Nothing was hot. Plate was cold as ice. Everything was lukewarm at best. Ate a couple bites, stopped. Even rice was dry and not warm. This place can't be earning the 4 stars it has... Never again. read more

The food here is delicious. A group of six of us came, including our friend from the south! So he knows his Cajun food, and he was impressed! Between us we had the chicken po-boy sandwich, jambalaya, and gumbo. Each dish was delicious. Had good spice and great portion sizes. I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try. The only thing that was a flop was the soda machine put out weird flakey material in our drinks. I would avoid that at all costs. Beyond that though, I was definitely impressed! OMG. Too good! We split an order of hush puppies, which contained whole kernels of corn in the batter. Served with a tangy, spicy mustard sauce, which proved to be an ideal addition to my already delicious catfish po boy. Girlfriend had the shirmp & corn etouffee, which she loved. It comes with a few tostadas, but they charge if you want extra. They make agua fresca as well, but they had ran out this last time. The service is okay, it can definitely be improved. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. There is some street parking available and I believe a parking lot in the back. Definitely worth a try!

Every employee was very nice! Drinks were well made and generous. Portions were generous, my daughter and I split a salad. Cornbread was kinda dry and needed more butter. The wait staff was kind and patient as I asked for modifications on my food ( I wanted a deconstructed pulled pork plate- I don't like when sauces drown the food!) The food came out quickly- which was a perk! The pulled pork was decent- just very sweet! The coleslaw was lukewarm and very underseasoned . It was essentially cabbage and mayo. The cornbread- HARD NO. It was so incredibly dry and lacked flavor. The texture was gummy? I asked for honey butter on the side and was given what looked like movie theater popcorn butter- in liquid form! Yuck. The ribs were just okay ! Presentation was odd with a squiggle of sauce on them. I'm so sad another BBQ spot in the Bay has let me down :(

Toast that was supposed to come with breakfast was forgotten. Long ticket time. And the room is VERY bright and often VERY loud to a point where conversation becomes almost impossible. Too bad, because overall the room looks nice (if a bit cafeteria-like with all the long tables in the middle), but it would be cozy in one of the perimeter booths if you could talk to your table mates without having to shout. Spanky's just down in Ben Lomond may be more run down and smaller, but it is a more pleasant place to be for the same kind of food.

The fish and the shrimp were very good; shrimp was crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked on the inside, and they were a good size, too. The chips were just okay... could have been much, much better. The views out the large windows were wonderful, overlooking the beach and the pier. It's an order at the counter type restaurant and they give you a pager to let you know when your food is ready. It's a bit noisy because it's right next to the arcade inside the same building. The food: Seafood Combo - this was surprisingly good. Shrimp and Fish were fried really well and the fries were fine. I would definitely order this again. Popcorn Chicken - big drop-off from the Seafood Combo. The exterior was a tougher breading. The inside chicken was ok. Chowder Bread Bowl - I feel like every bread bowl place never gives enough chowder and this restaurant is no different. Aside from that the chowder was really under seasoned and there was very little seafood flavor. It was a very vegetable forward chowder, which did not meet my expectations. If we're ever back in the area, I would like to try the crab sandwich, that looked pretty good. I would also stick with the fried seafood items.
