Great place to have some fast casual outstanding Cajun/Creole food. I'd been craving some crawfish and decided to stop here on a trip to Monterey. I got the half and half chicken shrimp and sausage jambalaya/ cheese crawfish étouffée. It was served with brown rice in the middle and a piece of toasty, Cajun seasoned bread. The jambalaya was seasoned perfectly and had huge pieces of shrimp and fresh veggies. I wish it had been spicier, but the flavor was just right. The étouffée was good as well, not as flavorful, but had a underlying rich cheesiness. It was not overpowering as the crawfish definitely had a major role. I would order both dishes again! The bread was delicious as well. Service was polite and prompt. They had a great selection of beers. Fast service. I would definitely return and this time get their beignets for dessert ;) read more

Really like the food, it isnt fancy but it is tasty. Fed a family of 5. Kids loved the dippers.

Excellent and kind service! The chicken & mushroom creole was incredible. My partner's Shrimp Po Boy was also delicious, and the beignet dipping sauce was an unbelievably delicious pairing. read more

It simple fast fun and delicious. You get foods you don't just find everywhere. Try the fried pickles for sure.

Got delivery from this place (after looking at their menu from the line at Trader Joe's) and thought "oooh that sounds good". I have southern family (shhh!), so I know good gumbo. This wasn't excellent, but it was good, especially now, and I will order again. Thank you. read more

Forgot to take pictures, was very hungry by the time I got there. Checked this place out while in the area for a beach day. Ordered the fried shrimp po'boy & veggie stew with white rice. Bread was very soft, shrimp was tasty, stew had a tiny kick to it. Overall, not bad. Will check it out again when in the area. read more

Nice little fast food cajun place. Decent oyster po-boy, and delicious fried green tomatoes with remoulade. The po-boy needed more remoulade. They serve a side of their stews with sandwich. I had the shrimp and corn ettoufee and was pleased. read more

We came here before our hike. We searched Yelp and this restaurant was highly ranked. We wanted something other than sandwich so this was perfect. The jambalaya was very tasty and the poboy was delicious. We ordered the sweet potato fries to go with it and it was perfect. Service was fast and the bathroom was cleaned. read more

um wtf absolutely delicious. im upset. i got the 1/2 and 1/2 deal, and it was my second time here. the flavors were delicious. out of the two stews i got, i would say i liked the Spinach, mushroom, and artichoke one more. i wish the other one (the chicken, okra, sausage one) had more sausage that packed more of a punch (i love heat and warmth and thats what i was looking more for in that one. still was flavorful but in comparison to the mushroom one, it was lacking in my opinion). AND DONT GET ME STAAAARTED ON THE BREAD. MWUAH. PERFECT. it really is a whole ass part of the dish. (also their pecan pralines are a nice way to end the meal! the crisp and crunchy texture r a good break from the heavy, ooey goodness.) also a note on the atmosphere of the place: i like how it's casual, bright, and warm. really maintains a nice balance between, "holy shit hell yeah i'm gonna drive 15-20 minutes out of my way to come here because i cant get this at home" and "this still feels like a home-cooked meal". read more

Roux Dat - 1/2 and 1/2 - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Capitola, California

Would've been five stars because the flavor is ON POINT and everything was delicious, and the only reason I can't give five stars is because I only got one shrimp and like 3 pieces of sausage in my jumbalaya:(. Other than that will definitely be ordering again! read more

I came here with my friend, the Po's boy sandwhicb with catfish was so tasty, the best one I've had in awhile! My friend got it with spicy chicken and he loved it as well! The vegan jambalaya was good, not great but that's because I'm use to having shrimp in mine! Def will be back here read more

This restaurant is a welcome addition to the Santa Cruz area, affordable and delicious Cajun/Creole New Orleans food. The fried green tomatoes alone are sure to bring me back! Look forward to having beignets and chicory coffee next time! read more

Roux Dat - Appetizers! The fried green tomatoes are amazing! - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Capitola, California

We ordered takeout after a long day at the beach. We ordered two large entrees. One was a spicy jambalaya and the other one was a etoffe(?)Both were amazing and hit the spot. Super flavorful! After visiting New Orleans a few years ago, I missed the food so much and this brought me right back. The fried green tomatoes were ah-mazing and the beignets were delicious. The Cajun fries were just ok in terms of flavor but everything else was delicious. We will be back! read more

This place is a little off the beaten path, so it is easy to forget they're here, but they are delicious and definitely worth it! All entrees and sides are affordable and scrumptious. I haven't found a single thing here I didn't like. I've tried almost all the stews and a good chunk of their Po' Boy sandwich section of the menu and feel satisfied no matter what I get (a rarity at any restaurant!). Today I had a muffaletta sandwich with jambalaya as the side, and OMG, I was so happy I did! I was dancing in my seat while I ate it, so much yummy tapenade and meats on perfectly fresh bread, and of course you can never go wrong with their jambalaya, perfectly spiced and all. I noticed today that they have iced tea as a beverage option, with fresh mint and lemon by the dispenser - how cool is that?! I know, I know, it's silly but the little things really impress me. I call in once for lunch pick up usually, but the ambience is also pretty cool with a Mardi-Gras-style of décor if you decide to stay. It is a small restaurant, but also has some outside seating. The service is also on par, always friendly and prompt, what else can you ask for? So, GO! - Eat some gumbo, or jambalaya, or etouffee, or po' boy - you will not leave hungry, nor disappointed! read more

I absolutely love this restaurant. I've been coming here since before they moved to their new location and I come here every time I happen to be in Capitola. The chicken and mushroom creole is genuinely incredible, the po' boy sandwiches are fantastic with incredibly delicious bread, and the cajun fries are heavenly. I have come back here so many times and will keep coming back. One of the best places to eat in the Santa Cruz area hands down. read more

Had to try this place out after a beautiful relaxing afternoon on the beach with my daughter. This place had lots of positive reviews and the food selection sounded great. It's less than ten minutes drive from the beach in an outdoor retail shopping center. Interior was nice and colorful & we were immediately greeted warmly by the friendly hostess/cashier. Overall casual atmosphere. Allowed the option to order two types on one order to satisfy one's curiosity. Food was prepared quickly, presented well, and delicious. We had the spicy shrimp corn etouffle and jambalaya. read more

We got here after surfing in the neighborhood. There were plenty of parking space in the strip mall. It's a small place. Only 5 tables. Ordering at the counter was quick. Food came quickly also. Food was excellent. I especially love the oyster poboy with your choice of side stew. read more

Came here for the second time and it was packed! The space is pretty small (only about 7 tables inside, 3 outside), so we ordered something to go. A bowl of one item is $9, a bowl of two is $9.50. We got a bowl of the crawfish maque choux and vegetarian jambalaya with brown rice. I'm no expert when it comes to Cajun food, but the maque choux was pretty darn good. It had a ton of corn and black beans along with big pieces of sausage and crawfish. The veggie jambalaya was also super flavorful and well spiced. My one complaint is that the pieces of celery were all different sizes - made the dish look kind of inconsistent. I'd go back again to try the beignets! read more

New and exciting. If you love jambalaya, gumbo and red beans and rice this is the place. The food comes out right away and it hot. I recommend getting the 1/2&1/2 then you can try two things at a time. This is a much needed addition to the area. And don't forget the desert. read more

Super excited to hear that there was a cajun/creole place in santa cruz, so i had to head over right away. I had the jambalaya woth white rice and it was amazing! I didnt really taste the variety of meats that were in the stew, but it still tasted good regardless. I also had the beignets and to be honest, this is where I had to dock some stars. It just wasn't what I expected. The batch I got looked more like collapsed fried wontons with powdered sugar. Also, the beignets were sooooo small (probably the size of a small post-it note). Not sure if I got a bad batch, but it lookedd nothing like the photos. The rum sauce was good, though. Overall, my experience was great. I'll def be heading back for the stews, not so much the beignets. read more

Very good Cajun food with plenty of options. I had a friend recommend and so glad she did. I will be coming back

So good, especially if you need to feed lots of folks & the managers always make my catering orders smooth. Shrimp corn etoufee, jambalaya, red beans n rice, po' boys?? yes its all scrumptious. Its hard to choose!! This way everyone including my vegans get an awesome meal. Shrimps are delicious and the stews just rock. Don't want to cook? Head here for better than your mama's cajun comfort food. Just YUMMM. Staff and owners are wonderful. Five stars, all the time (and that's rare) read more

I am not sure why the high star ratings and the hype. I have been to New Orleans and the multiple dishes I purchased here is nothing close. Great customer service but honestly the rice is over cooked and food was super bland with no flavor. read more

First time customer so I got it plain just to try the chicken and spices on it to my disappointment it was not good the seasoning tasted sandy and more earthy with a burnt after taste the meat inside was subpar tender but not good either I got fries with it but a small portion and seasoning didn't make a difference to flavor. I spent 14.95 on this order and I definitely over payed I still am willing to try other menu items from them but I won't have high expectations read more

Roux Dat - Spicy po boy chicken sandwich - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Capitola, California

There is only one feeling I can describe as I sit here looking at the finished jambalaya I ate and that feeling is definitely not a good one. I would say disappointed and dissatisfied. Yes I know it's a stew but you could've made it a little more spicy other than providing hot sauces to make up for the lack of flavor, I would recommend adding more spicy flavors you really give Cajun a bad name. On the other hand my girlfriend had the fried chicken Cajun and the Cajun part really lacked as well, chicken was good and overall satisfying but I can't acknowledge this as being anything near real Cajun food. Baked beignets was good that's about it. read more

I have had cajun food in New Orleans, and this place is even better than the restaurants I stood in line for 45 minutes for popular cajun food in New Orleans. I love that they have vegan and vegetarian options. I had a vegan jambalaya and it was delicious. It had huge pieces of fresh vegetables in it. It wasn't quite spicy enough for my taste, but I like spicy food. I am from the South and I don't really cook so I miss some foods from home such as hushpuppies. Therefore, I was delighted to see them on the menu. They are delicious! The dipping sauce for them was great, too. If you like beer you're in luck here because they have 4 different draft beers from a very popular Louisiana brewer (Abita). They also have homemade pecan pralines on the counter. If you have never had a pecan praline and you like sweet treats, YOU MUST try one of their pralines! Without exagerration they were the best pralines I have ever had. My only complaint is that they did not have sweet tea. And Sweet Tea is different than unsweet tea that has sugar added. How? Sugar does not mix well with room temperature or cold tea. So, if you make sweet tea by adding sugar to unsweet tea then it will be grainy and gross. Regardless, this place is one of my favorite restaurants I have eaten in since moving to California four years ago. I plan to be back as often as possible. read more

Roux Dat - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Capitola, California

After I moved to the bay area, I found it strange how my love for Cajun and creole food grew instead of my love for Asian food. Maybe it has to do with the fact that two of my previous housemates were from Louisiana and cooked their family recipes ALL THE TIME. However, now that I don't live with them, I've been on a hunt for restaurants that serve similar food to satisfy my cravings. This restaurant is a small place and doesn't look like much but when you try the food you will be amazed! I ordered my classic fried shrimp po' boy with a side of shrimp & corn etouffe. My partner ordered the Jambalaya and gumbo. Oh my goodness this place knocked it out of the park! The shrimp and corn etouffe was full of spice, but balanced with a sweetness from the corn. The jambalaya was thick with large pieces of chicken, sausage, and peppers mixed through it. And the gumbo was a hodgepodge of deliciousness. Who cares what's in it? Just dig in and enjoy the bold flavors and spice! I will definitely make the drive back to Capitola to have the food again! read more

Got take out. Friendly people and well organized. Po boys are a little light on the meat but very tasty. Fried pickles and hush puppies are top notch. Roux Dat - Jambalaya with catfish plate in the back - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Capitola, California

My husband and I usually hit Roux Dat's downtown location since we live in Scotts Valley, however, we were in Capitola today so we went to the Capitola location. Staff is always super friendly at both locations. While I was waiting for my food, the staff member walked my order over to me when it was ready vs. yelling my name to pick it up, which was really nice. When we got home we ordered cornbread on the side and one of the slices was a little smaller than an average size piece so they threw in another piece. :)). It's all the little touches as well as the excellent food that keeps us coming back. Thank you Roux Dat at both locations!! read more

Food was good a little oily and slightly heavy on Mayo there was very little meat in my catfish po boy definitely less then what the photos on yelped showed. My friend had the same opinion on the food Felt like I was biting into bread most of the time. fries were ok I left hungry. price came out to $15-16 per sandwich wasn't worth it I may give it a 2nd shot I could've came on an off day as the taste was good. but I'd have to make sure I'm getting my money's worth. read more

if you go in for the morning/early afternoon the food is great frank and chad kill it, but night is a different story the employees who are there aren't in uniforms, I walked in and waited 10 minutes for an employee to come out to greet us we were the only customers in the store, we ordered a shrimp po boy with fries, and a kids Meal with chicken tenders and hush puppies , waited about 15 minutes for our food. the employee walked into the back while our food was frying, our food was overcooked and wasn't great, I don't think I'll eat here again for afternoo/nights. read more

This place is a Hidden Gem came across this place looking for food and now I know this is the go to place for some Cajun food. I got the fried chicken po' boy and it's so light and crispy. The bread is very fluffy and delicious and the chicken is perfectly seasoned and fried. I got the chicken, shrimp & sausage jambalaya as my side and it is sooo good! They're generous with their meat ratios in the jambalaya I got chicken, shrimp & sausage in almost every bite. The fried green tomatoes are a must! The service was great also, they're very welcoming here. I will definitely be coming back along with bringing friends and family. read more

Unique find in Santa Cruz county. Great flavorful, classical, varieties of gumbos and etouffees. They have red beans and rice, hush puppies and beignets for dessert. This place rocks. The hush puppies were delicious, the cole slaw wasn't overly mayonaised, and both of our stews were good. we've enjoyed the crawfish stew, the shrimp and corn, and the black beans too, and they've all been delicious. the price is reasonable for a large, you'll definitely be full, and you won't have to wait to long to get good, hearty food.
