I decided to grab lunch here today to satisfy my craving for a good sandwich. I chose the Shredded Pork Po' Boy and cajun fries with an order of Beignets! I mean, who can pass up beignets after watching The Princess Frog? The Po' Boy was delicious. The marinade/sauce used on the pork was tangy with a just a kick of spice. I am super sensitive to spicy food and can't handle much and this was perfect. I could have even had a touch more spice and it would have been fine. The cajun fries were good, but they could have used a little salt, but then again I like salty fries in general. The beignets... Oh the beignets! They are really scrumptious and the dipping sauce/glaze is really good. I will definitely come back again and next time I'll have to try some of the stew. read more

I love Cajun food, and was hoping for far better than I got. Every aspect of the dining experience was a downer, from the single server manning the kitchen, to the industrial layout of tables, to the inability of the menu and server to describe the dishes. Friendly staff and great food (we got the shrimp and corn etouffee, the jambalaya, the hush puppies, and the beignets). The hush puppies weren't as corn-y or as sweet as I'm used to, but the seasoning was good. The entrees come with rice and garlic bread, and the beignets are deliciously covered in almost more powdered sugar than you can handle (read: delicious). Everything was good and the food came out quickly. You can do a "pick two" option on the stews and they give you a pretty good-sized portion split down the middle with rice and they give you bread on the side. You can also get a po'boy sandwich and get a stew as a side to try more. I highly suggest either option, as all of their food is great and you'll want to try as much as possible! Edit: Since writing the initial review (and saving it instead of posting it...oops), I have been back multiple times and everything I get is always great! Two of my favorites are their Spicy Chicken Po'Boy and Shrimp and Corn Etouffee! Passed by this place a million times and finally tried it. Very tasty food and fast service. I don't think there's anything similar in the area. Nice that they offer New Orleans beer (only!) but I doubt they sell much. If you're gonna have a beer license, use it. I would have preferred a wider selection. And I walked to 3 tables before I found a clean one. Eventually customers started cleaning the tables themselves and joking about it. Table food delivery is nice. Staff seem friendly. They don't even deserve one star for the experience we had here! We walked in excited for Cajun food! My husband lived in Louisiana for a bit and was taught by native Cajuns how to cook Louisiana-style food. And with the high ratings we assumed it'd at least be decent. We walked in and the cashier/server was running in from outside. Apparently she was feeding her daughter outside or saying bye to her child that was being driven away with a family member or something. It was very unprofessional, but had that been the only odd/off putting thing it would be easy to overlook. We hesitantly ordered from her. She was working with one young man in the kitchen. It was obviously a slow night. And he obviously hates his job. We ordered jambalaya another stew and a PoBoy Sandwich. A beer and two soft drinks. While waiting for our food we had to listen to the cashier talk very loudly about how her daughter is 'so awesome' and she's 'such a great child' and 'isn't she so cute'. When we got the food we were shocked. The stews were both bland and nothing like Louisiana Cajun. There were 6 shrimp on the sandwich. It literally covered MAYBE 1/3 of the bread. We asked the cook and he couldn't hear us. So my husband walked closer to him to ask about the sandwich and the guy yelled at him. Literally yelled at him as if he were on the street about to try and fight my husband. I was stunned. He said that's how it's supposed to come and he's 'not doing nothin about it' and that's verbatim. The server said she felt badly. She said he hates working there. That she knows he was rude but that he's not the owner. We left immediately. Hopefully the actual owner reads this and fires that guy. He doesn't deserve a job. And hopefully they start actually filling their sandwiches with more than just $0.45 worth of shrimp along with a spicy mayo and bread. We wanted our $40 back but neither the cashier nor the cook had the class to offer us a refund even after seeing we were leaving without eating any of the meals. read more

This is a great place with great service and really great food. We tried almost everything. Jambalaya, shrimp po'boy, green fried tomatoes, sweet potato fries, hush puppies. Everything was very tasty. I would recommend this place to you if you have a hankering to Creole Food. I'm sure you won't be disappointed! read more

I usually get the Catfish Po Boy lunch special but I have pretty much tried everything on the menu. I haven't had much Cajun or creole food. My family bought the jambalaya, corn eh-too-fay, the gumbo and fried cat fish and kids chicken plate. The jambalaya is the most popular item per workers and the website. It tasted like tomato based chili, like I can make it on my instant pot at home. Spice level was a little over mild to me. My favorite dish was the shrimp and corn eh-too-fay (I don't know how to spell it). It was creamy and buttery. The catfish was good, didn't come with any kind of dipping sauce but ketchup. I'd give it 4 stars because the service was awesome, the people were very kind. There might be a trend I see in Santa Cruz and Capitola because all the employees were below 30 maybe even 25 years old. Not that that matters but it's def an observation read more

I have been thinking about how to write this review since eating there this afternoon, hoping that the taste of the food would wear off by now. Sadly, it has not. The food at this place is horrible. There, I said it. Horrible. I grew up in South Louisiana, and feel that I'm a pretty damn good judge of Cajun food. I went here in the hopes that I would find a half-way decent Cajun food place in the Bay Area, and my search continues. We ordered the following: Red beans and sausage. For one, that isn't even a Cajun dish. The real dish is supposed to be Red Beans & Rice, but they didn't even know enough to get that right. It was over-peppered, and they felt the need to dump some extra seasoning on top, further ruining one of the most simple Cajun dishes to make. Chicken and Sausage Gumbo, which lacked both chicken and sausage. Seriously, not a single piece of chicken or sausage. I sent it back asking for chicken and sausage to accompany the gumbo, and I swear they picked sausage out of the red beans and sausage and placed them into the "gumbo". The other main problem I had, besides the taste, was the fact that they slopped it onto the same plate as my red beans and sausage, which is NOT gumbo at that point, and combining a poorly made gumbo with poorly made red beans and sausage doesn't hide either of their problems. Over-peppered as well, and I'm guessing now that they're trying to correct flavors by adding more seasoning, and that shouldn't be the case. My wife had the Shrimp & Corn Etouffee, which was another experiment. It had 2 pieces of shrimp, literally, and looked like corn soup. I would stay away from this one more than anything else on their menu, as looking at it just made me wonder what it was supposed to be. My kid had the Chili Cheese Etouffee. What the heck is "chili cheese etouffee", because I never once encountered anything like that in all my Louisiana years? This one is a mystery to me, and I'm not sure what it's supposed to be. Chili? Etouffee? Cheese? I'm confused... The Hush Puppies were so-so. The best thing we had was the sweet potato fries, which honestly, if you screw up fries of any sort, you need to just close up shop. The Beignets were also ok, but lacked the authenticity of what you'd find in Cafe Du Monde, which is what they were trying to copy. Not great, but again, how hard is it to fry some bread. This place calls itself "New Orleans Inspired", and it should stop there. I seriously appreciate the effort, but the food wildly misses the mark. I'm sure it's going to fool many people, but I can't consciously step foot in there again. The service wasn't bad, the location is great. Maybe I should have looked into their background a bit more before going in, as I would have set my expectations so much lower, but I just can't stomach when people feel the need to mess up great Cajun dishes. read more

I love cajun/creole food. Its my favorite, but his place missed the mark. I spent some time in Louisiana and this stuff isn't quite right. My husband and i have a rule about "new orleans inspired" restaurants: If you see Mardi Gras Beads run for the hills! Ignoring better judgement we ordered anyway. 1. Our server lacked any interest in being there and it showed on her face and in demeanor. 2. The fries were cold and undercooked. 3. Crawfish and Sausage Maque Choux, maybe 2-3 peices of sausage and I found 1 crawfish. It didn't have much flavor beyond pepper and salt. It actually tasted more like TEX-MEX than anything from La. The Po-boy was decent. Nothing to write home about but edible. If you're craving a Po-Boy i'd say go ahead and stop by this place, but beyond that its lack luster. read more

Decent food! Sweet potatoes and hush puppies were great. I had sausage and chicken, it didn't have much flavor or meat. The mushroom and spinach étouffée reminded me of palak paneer, very bland. The best Cajun food I have ever had. My favorite is the Jambalaya it's spicy and has plenty of sausage ,shrimp and chicken and served with spicy Cajun toast and I always finish with beignets dusted with powder sugar. I would highly recommend Roux Dat to anyone. read more

Holy moly why has it taken me this long to come here? For a tiny little place smack dab in the middle of a mediocre strip mall, I was blown away! They have gluten free and vegan friendly traditional creole food. I got the bean and corn Maque Choux (a veggie stew with rice). It had this bread on the side that was to die for. The food was perfectly seasoned and utterly delicious. I couldn't eat the whole bowl it was so filling. My SO got the spicy fried chicken PoBoy and he said it was awesome. He can't wait to get it again. Traditional tea with your own level of simple syrup sweetness and mint available. Great service and a nice homey feel. Will for sure come again! read more
