Very friendly staff, great drinks and some tasty food. A bit pricey, but still good food. For an appetizer, we got their scallops and pork belly, which was AMAZING! Then We both got the grilled Octopus and if you like this sort of seafood, then you will love this. I know people don't like the texture, so then you can try a steak or something. But this Octopus was very delicious. The mashed potatoes were a hit and the French fries were really good as well. The serving size was enough to share one of these side dishes, but whatever, we were not n vacay mode, lol Our drinks were good, and the building were very modern and nice.

Dining inside a beautiful cave and cenote creates an atmosphere unlike anywhere else we've ever been. We started with the shrimp appetizer and beef carpaccio, followed by the steak tacos, beef tenderloin, and the chef's beef special. Every dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed dessert and drinks, which were the perfect finish to the evening. The highlight, beyond the incredible setting, was the service. Obi and Beto took exceptional care of us all night and made the experience feel special from start to finish. We also took the cenote tour, which added another layer to an already memorable evening. The bill came to about $400 for three people, including appetizers, entrees, dessert, drinks, and a soda, so it's definitely a special-occasion restaurant. But between the food, service, and unforgettable cave setting, we felt it was money well spent.

Walking through the cave, the lighting, the underground wine cellar where you pick your own bottle -- it's undeniably impressive and makes for great photos. For a birthday dinner or special occasion, I understand the appeal. That said, once the novelty wears off, the food and overall experience just didn't justify the massive bill at the end. Nothing was bad, but nothing really stood out as unforgettable either. The oysters were fresh, the drinks were solid, and a few dishes looked better than they tasted. It felt more like a place designed for the "wow" factor than for truly exceptional dining. Service was fine, but the pacing and attention didn't match the luxury pricing. In an area like Playa del Carmen where there are SO many amazing restaurants with incredible food, drinks, and atmosphere for a fraction of the cost, this one just felt hard to justify. Glad we experienced it once for a friend's birthday, but it's probably not somewhere we'd return. Great cave. Great photos. Average value.

We started off with some water and cold drinks, a beer and a mango margarita, and ordered some guacamole to start with. By far, some of the best guacamole I've had and I was happy that they put all the topping in the bowl and allowed you to mix in how much you like - allowing me & my sister to both enjoy it as she likes cilantro, it taste like soap to me. The shrimp were a little over cooked for me but they were seasoned well (which that in itself was a plus). The calamari was not our favorite. It was severed with a tartar sauce and it lacked seasoning and was chewy. It was cut larger than what we are accustomed to so that may have also had something to do with the texture. Although we were in the restaurant, we still had beach vendors coming up and trying to sell their goods and the music was LOUD as they were doing sound checks for the event. However otherwise it was a good experience. They do have parking in front of the restaurant. It usually have a cone or some spot saved as they don't want people parking and going to the beach, so if you see a spot blocked just give it a minute and the man will come move it and watch your car for a small tip.

The space is warm and completely unpretentious--wood, simple tables, an open kitchen and a palapa-style roof. Nothing about it screams "fine dining," and that's part of the charm. The perfectly prepared food does all the work. We chose the tasting experience, and bite for bite it was outstanding. The fried mushrooms were perfect, the fish ceviche was awesome, and the beef tongue was cooked beautifully. And don't be afraid of the grasshoppers--seriously. Yummy. Even ingredients I normally don't gravitate toward, like black beans, were used so thoughtfully that I enjoyed them. The drink pairings were equally impressive--tequila, beer, wine and espresso--and each one genuinely complemented the course it accompanied. We were basically the only guests that evening, and our waiter turned that into a wonderfully personal experience. He patiently answered every one of our many "American questions" about the ingredients, preparation and pairings, never making us feel rushed or out of place. A sincere thank-you to him, the cooks--who my partner and I gave a standing ovation to--and the entire team for making the evening so memorable. My one tiny suggestion? Cloth napkins. With that many courses, sauces and textures, the paper ones felt a little out of step with the quality of the food. But when the napkin is your biggest criticism, they're doing something right. And then there's the value. For an experience of this quality, the price was remarkable. Our total was about $320 including tip for the full tasting experience and pairings for two. We have spent more than twice that on comparable special-occasion dinners at home, so Axiote felt not just exceptional, but genuinely budget-friendly for what you receive. Axiote is relaxed, confident, welcoming and absolutely worth leaving the resort for. Go hungry, ask questions, trust the kitchen--and yes, eat the grasshoppers.

The server even had the audacity to ask for tip after. I will not recommend this business. If I could give a zero star, I would.
