Came here for a birthday get-together for my niece who love arcades. I would say it is better than most arcade places in a mall. They had bowling, billiard, claw machine and so many arcade games. I saw a lot of machine that was down but there was plenty of other games to play. The claw machine will waste all your money. But I'm not really good at it. I didn't eat food here but it looked like they had the normal type bowling food like pizza and fries. I would come here again if invited for a birthday but not enough to drive here for fun. read more

5 years later and I can say this will be my last visit here. Went earlier today and was impressed with all the new machines and ACTUAL working ones. Since then, the max credits for the claw machines is now 14. This is okay for the BIG ones, but for ones the size of your pointing finger, that's just GREED! As for the games themselves, the claws feel so god awfully weak. I would love to show a video, but security gave me the signal to stop recording (only failed like 20x on the same machine). There's also the cheeseball one where it grabs the ball, hovers in place for a few seconds so the ball falls out and then you repeatedly pray that you get it after one more try. There has to be a balance of impossible and fair wins, but this location doesn't have it. read more

Round 1 is an arcade on steroids--massive, loud, and insanely fun. It's like a casino for kids (although there is a bar for adults too). The games range from DDR and Galaga to VR, skee-ball, and endless claw machines, but they burn through credits fast, so pace yourself! The bowling is pretty upscale, with comfy seating, slick lanes, and rental shoes that don't feel like torture devices. Add bumpers by tapping a checkbox on the touchscreen. So cool. Even the food is solid, with burgers, pizza, and a Japanese menu. Tucked in a mall corner, it feels like its own world, and the friendly staff keeps the vibe fun. We have come here on 3 separate occasions: 1st: this was for my birthday and my boyfriend and I came at night. it was fairly busy with lots of kids and we were welcomed with the smell of weed outside the entrance. We got a $50 card worth of credits and were able to find some luck and bring home 3 stuffed toys within the first 20 mins. then the fire alarm went off and everyone had to exit. We felt like we won enough and just drove back home. 2nd: We went with a friend this time and in addition to the claw machines, we tried their karaoke. The quality of songs were decent but the bright lights were kinda distracting, we wished we could've dimmed them. We also went home with some winnings from the claw machine. 3rd: This was probably our worst experience. We went on a Saturday early afternoon to beat the crowds. $50 in, we had no luck at the claw machines. In fact, they seemed a lot less fair this round. A lot of time the claw picked up the toys but then quickly loosened up its grip and dropped it. This happened with every single one, even the smallest prizes. Not sure if this was due to the time we went or if they rigged their machines to be even more stringent, but the fun was robbed from us. read more

I am as much of a casual round one connoisseur as one could be living on the east coast of the US, meaning I've been to 3 of them. Out of the 3 I've gone too, this one is my least favorite. I'm giving 3 stars because I still had fun, but spent less time in here than any other round one. TLDR: prices are higher than normal in my experience, so spent more money and stayed for less time. It's not bad, the machines are well kept and it has a variety of them. It was a standard size for a round one. I always come for the crane games and to try out Japanese rhythm games I've never played before and it had those for me. I never do the bowling or eat the food in them, so I can't say anything about either of those. My biggest complaint was the price of everything. It was more expensive than either round one I've been to before for each crane game. I honestly spent an absurd amount of money here in one hour than I spent at any other round one for a full day. There also just wasn't as many good prizes in either the crane games or the winnings area. I kept the points on my card to go to a different prize center in a different round one. Prizes are subjective of course, but if you want fun anime stuff or cute plushies, just wasn't as many good ones here. There is also a store in the mall that this is located with a lot of anime figures and plush, but it's a much less fun way to go about getting that! read more

Went there to enjoy a round of bowling. As I was waiting for my entire party to bowl (the wait for everything was prolonged due to understaffing), a shoulder length red-headed employee came to the lane I was in (and purchased) and told me I needed to move over because other patrons would be utilizing the lane next to us (this lane was inoperable due to it being nonfunctional at the time). Now, I'm not sure if Round 1 treats all disabled vets in this manner, but this particular employee decided that I was moving my belongings too slowly for their liking, so they then decided to pick up and move my personal belongings and food in a rushed and hurried manner across the table in order to make space for these fictional patrons (who never came). I never gave him permission to touch my food or my personal belongings, but he insisted other patrons would be purchasing use of the lane, so he felt inclined and warranted in touching my private property even though during our time we were in Round 1, no one ever came. Being that I was the only person this employee decided to accost and/or make this request to. I'm not sure if it's implicit bias or just outright training on how to serve disabled parties. What I do not expect is for adolescent employees attempting to throw their perceived authority around and in the process violate disability laws. I also expect lanes that work in their entirety or staff that is present to help or serve (since again no one was there to address the bumpers not working or why the food lines were a 15+ minute wait - yet someone was there to throw my food/ belongings to the other side of the lane table). I took my nephews here to ground one and I am thoroughly disappointed. Most of the machines don't work and I lost about 35 credits in the Photo Booth. And Hunter who is a supervisor is telling me that he can't take my card and call me so I can come back and get a credit he doesn't really know anything about the business or the operation and I'm just really discussed it right now as I've lost 35 credits and money and time because I have to leave to get on a business call him so I guess I just lose out. I've been a few times just for the arcade. The place has an insane amount of games. You buy a prepaid card that you swipe at each game and credits are deducted depending on the game. The credits are deducted faster than you think, and you literally watch your money disappear. You earn credits/points on your card for winning at certain skill games, and can redeem your points for items. I've been there twice and have gotten the same dude for card purchasing, and in the gift store. This guy is absolutely miserable, devoid of any human emotion, and emits a psychopathic energy. I've gone twice and have gone early in the day right after opening so the crowds were very small. It can get loud, and hot in there. I'd bring some hand sanitizer to clean hands after touching the controls on these games. It's a cool place, and my son loves it. read more

This will be a quick review... OMG DO NOT GO FOR ANY REASON!!! The staff here is mostly rude, except for a couple of cleaning people. The food/bar staff (if that's what you could call them) were slow and incredibly confrontational for reasons I can't explain. After several minutes of uncomfortable interactions with the staff, we asked to see the manager. Wow, what a joke he was!!! It is truly pathetic when the manager of an establishment asks the patrons how to handle a situation. My wife and I were there with my 12 year old son and two friends, all I can say is I'm glad they didn't have to witness the crap-show that the staff provided. At least they got to use the over-priced game cards we got them before we could no longer stand this place. For the most part, it seemed most other people had a good time, but I believe it was because they dropped their kids and left or were older "kids" playing games. Overall, if you are truly desperate for something for your kids to do, this may be your cup of tea. But honestly, you'd be better off playing in traffic for fun than wasting money in this horror show. Take them to a real bowling alley or a trampoline park or literally anywhere other than here. The jackpots at this place are a joke the management also leaves a lot to be desired. This store regularly manipulates coin pusher games to remove rare cards. Most of the decent ticket games have had there jackpots lowered so even if it was winnable every time u would still lose as price to play has went up. A lot of the games have been poorly maintained ie qd drops extra zombie doesn't count pucks and add tickets to card. Store removed 1k pucks and last time I went didn't even see 500s anymore. They also shipped off a dc pusher and a zombie machine probably to another location sad that this is my closest location as I really don't like the way it's run. read more

Overall the Round 1 location here was okay. It was a bit disappointing to see how it compared to the Taunton location. Quite a number of machines were out of order, such as multiple crane games and photo booths. A few others had broken controls such as the tomb raider having a gun that didn't work as well as the whack-a-clown game which didn't have the clowns pop up properly. That being said, there was a good variety of games there with the likes of rythm, shooting, fighting, crane, and racing games. The location in Holyoke Mall is really great as the 5 colleges are in that area, so it is a great place to go during a weekend for college students. read more

Very horrible gaming experience. Was there with my two children . Machine promised a 1,000 payout if you hit the bonus. After many, many attempts, the bonus was hit and they were very excited. We received less than 100 tickets. Complained to employee who agreed it was faulty. Had us speak to manager who insisted the 1,000 referred to points which are then translated into fewer tickets. Told him it was deceptive and he disagreed. He was very rude about the whole situation. Will never return. read more

We drove 1 and a half hour to get here last night after work. My daughter & her friend wanted to play the claw machines. It's a Friday, and there was little to no claw machines to play. Everything was rigged, staff & management were rude. Nobody was working, just standing there watching. There were 10 machines that probably worked & 20-30 that were "out of order!" Really? This place was a rip off, we spent $300-$400 for free key chains & a few stuff animals. It's not about the money, it's about how poor everything was. I had an awesome time here. It seems with the decline of retail, there is an opportunity to have some family activities in their place. I went here with my peers for a team building day. What was nice is that we went during the day so we had the lanes to ourselves. The tend for bowling alleys are a move from the traditional smoke filled rooms to a friendly environment for adults and kids alike. You can get an adult beverage if that's your thing and there are plenty of arcade games for you too. This is a great time and if it's a group of adults, ladies night or the fam, this is a great place to go. read more

My friends almost got kicked out on one of there birthdays because they where accused of stealing when they won a gift a from a claw machine and the gate was zip tied shut so I mean isn't it common sense to be able to open a claw machine when you win something i was not part of there group but one of them came to talk to me and the person I was with to tell us. We immediately got involved and we involved my mother too. They did not get kicked out but they could not spend anymore money in that area. read more

I found it utterly disgusting how the management conduct themselves at this facility. Dennis Oglesby the manager on duty I'm assuming conducting himself in such an ill manner. One of their games were broken and didn't read our credits after you swiped. [It wasn't reading on the game but taking the credits off my card] Of course my little one kept swiping because he's excited he didn't realize it wasn't working as I saw what was occurring. I went to the front desk where Winnie and Lanasha was very empathetic to the situation. They called for the mechanic to look at the games. 15 minutes went by and no response was given. Of course one would start to become impatient because it shouldn't take long to check a game. The girls kept trying to get someone but no one responded. So I then escalated the situation to a manager so they can see what is occurring. They then asked the girls to ask me if I knew how to start the game before they even showed up. I said yes of course but I can show them to be peaceful because maybe they don't know it's out of order. This manager Dennis proceed to take his sweet time and have us waiting another 7 mins before he decided to show his face, mind you he didn't come to the front desk I HAD TO GO FIND HIM. Absolutely ridiculous. He said "the game works fine I saw people on it". What a cross of ****. No one was playing the game and my partner was there the whole time. She left the game unattended for 1 min when I decided to go find this so called manager who couldn't bother to do his job. So I asked him how do you know if the game works, are you the mechanic? He said no we have no mechanic. I said then how did you test it? He said it works people, were on it. (Now my patience is running thin) I explained to him what happened and he said welp there's nothing I can do it works. I said you know it works without a swiping yourself? He said yes it work. I'm no imbecile. A 9 year old can tell when credits show or not on a machine. I said okay I'm not going to deal with someone who clearly doesn't want to do his job so I asked for his managers information. He then proceed to say go online. (Ooooo my patience really going now being that I worked a crap ton of customer service jobs and even if my day is going bad, you still do your job) He refused to give me any contact information. He barely wanted to give me his name. Who knows if it's really Dennis Owen. [Management it's the African American male standing at 5"4, cesar hair cut, hefty, blue shit black tie black pants working on 5/6 at 8:57pm]. What Mr. Oglesby should've done is said take me to the machine. Say: Let's through it together. He would've saw it didn't work. Gave my kid his credit and move on. BUT since he wanted to be funny, I recorded my self doing it. I showed this video to the front desk attendants and they clearly also agreed that the machine didn't work. I absolutely love Round One. 16 years ago, the mall had a very similar arcade, but it was shut down. Since then, Arcades have been very silent here. But then came Round One! They have an insane variety of games, and tons of them are japanese imports. They also have crane machine games with quite braggable prizes. The rhythm game section is terrific with currently popular games, and the Fighting game section (specifically the ones under Nesica's online management system) are also very contemporary. I always have fun when I go. But there are some problems I've had when attending. Cons: When going to purchase tokens, the lines are always incredibly long. And that's because they always have one cashier on registers. I don't know why that is, but it's the case. My other issue is the games in the rhythm game and fighting game section. I'm very proud of the games running under Nesicsa (KOF series, Blazblue series, Street Fighter series, Fighting Ex Layer) are there, but there's room for other big games that other round one's have. But they barely update the fighting games. On top of that, they have insanely great classics as well (Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, capcom Vs. Snk 2, Power Stone 2, and Dead Or Alive 2) which are absolute classics. But then there are other completely unappealing one's right next to them that I've seen no one play. Due to covid, the staff reasonably decided to shut down every 2nd fighting machine, but for some reason only decided to close down the good games. Power Stone 2 and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 included. These are unfortunately not only the best out of the classic fighting games there, but the two only games my brother has interest in playing. He spends loads of tokens of the games, but unfortunately, they decided to shut down the good games. I've seen no one have interest in playing a wrestingling game where the main character farts to fight. Sum: Other than that, the service at the place has been fantastic. When they opened again post-covid, I was truly excited. But unfortunately, the fighting games have to suffer from it and I'll be going with less friends. That's my personal experience though. But a simple google search would prove my point about the fighting game section flaws. They decided to shut down only the good games. But overall, my experience there has been fantastic! It's the only place I would like to go to for fun. read more

At least one employee was helpful and nice, everyone else was rude and not at all helpful! Due to covid they only let you in the outside entrance, although they didn't tell us this on the phone, website, or mall directory that sent us to the inside entrance, where there wasn't even a sign to tell us how to get in. No guidance inside to find where to order or pay. The employees, except one, were all super rude. They told us they weren't serving food for 30 minutes, then changed that to 60 minutes. My party and I were wrongfully removed from the bowling lanes for excessive vaping. After being warned once for vaping, my party and I put all vapes away in our pockets. However the rude security guard claimed management caught a party member hitting a vaporizer while tying their shoe. After asking to consult management, since the security guard was too insecure to back his "claim" we were denied service or a refund, and asked to leave. We couldn't even finish our first game even when the party in the lane next to us had a vaporizer package that had just been opened and used. We asked to see the footage of these "claims" but were told the decision was official and we had no choice but to leave the establishment. Unfortunate that a party after paying for unlimited bowling was wrongfully asked to leave. read more

I went here the other night with a friend. The bowling price was great. 12.50 for 90 minutes of bowling after 4pm. It's even cheaper before 4pm. I didn't get any food, but the prices for cocktails and food are really cheap, especially when you buy in bulk. They have lots of video games and pool tables as well. This is a great place and I hope it stays for a long time. Holyoke mall is becoming such a great activity destination. I love this round 1 and then hitting up planet fitness when I'm done. Attended a birthday party here. The good part is kids enjoyed themselves. The lack of service and attention from employees made for a disorganized party. Each time a employee was around someone in the party could hear them complain or mumble something rude about us. The staff definitely needs better training in customer service. Enjoyed our time here with our 4 year old. Paid the timed bundle where you can only play "green games." It worked well since our son is just doing it for fun. We later in the day bought an amount to where we could play all games. It is expensive for people in a budget but the games are awesome!! read more

DO NOT GO! They do not give clear instructions then charge you extra for rules they do not tell you. We went for karaoke. No one came and got us when our hour was up. It's fun. I went today (02/28/2020) with my wife. There's are lots of arcade machines. 3 stars because either staff needs better training or the place needs better signs. I went to the bar and sat down at approx. 8:40pm. Bartender looked at me and my wife and continued serving people. I understand he's serving the people who got there before us. Not until MINUTES after, when the line directly in front of the cash register got long, did he tell us we had to wait in line to order drinks. It's not like we just decided to sit at the bar for kicks. I deal with thousands of people in my profession and when people are lost, I help them out. Oh Boy Don't know where to start. I guess the chicken wings which was the best part of our Birthday party . The second best thing was the party planner who did her absolute best to balance helping all the customers while trying to keep up with a party. Some processes need to be examined by management this party is too expensive to leave party goers clueless and short changed. Here we go The pizza has a very gross taste some herb not sure what it is. They never brought out the second round of food which was ok except the soda got flat and the food got cold. There was no clear explanation when initially booking the party for someone who is not familiar with the games that blue and green means nothing 5 to 12 years old like to play. Although the planner made it clear it was only blue and green and the kids all wanted rainbow games which was a little heartbreaking to watch . So we were stuck with race games and shooting games so don't be fooled by their very expensive price tags it doesn't include much for the 28 per kid . The bowling wasn't turned on quick enough or on time. There was a problem with the bowling program the whole time. They couldn't quite fix it and the kids ended up bowling maybe 15 minutes out of the allotted time. This would be a great party for 14 to 17 year olds but not for younger kids just a rip off. read more

On top of this, the card machine was broken so I had to go across the mall for an ATM in order to take out money. My friend also experienced rudeness from an employee. My family and friends total of 20 of us where there on 02/29/20 for a Birthday party. Party: was horrible not enough time to enjoy everything the place was ridiculous pack they should of informs us that it gets like that maybe would of booked my party another day that was slower. There was a missing child and the police closed the whole place from anyone going in or out of the building. So my guest was locked outside with my husband who had the game cards for almost a hour. When we spoke to the heavy set gentlemen who claim he was just a supervisor and was very busy. I demanded for him to hear me out I explain that my husband was outside locked out with the game cards and they kids didn't play. He just told us talk to the other girl at the other counter who was another supervisor. She started off with a horrible attitude very defensive when I started telling her the party host was no where to found didn't check on us delivery are food to our room and never told us so food was sitting there getting cold. It wasn't a pleasure speaking them at the front counter. We had bowling in are package and we didn't get to do that. Then we told we should of timed the party better. This was insane Management: Total mess at the end of the horrible party I went to the counter again to speak to the heavy set supervisor, to express our frustration and wanting corporate number, cause we didn't get what we paid for. He was very like oh you need to speak that girl there. Confused to why he keep pointing us to speak to her. I then ask for the Manager who was there he said there was no manager. Then I did loose and got loud and said how the f**k is there no manager here. that's when the other female supervisor calls for a manager name Robin. I was on 100 at that point cause now I was lied to that there wasn't a manager. Then the guy supervisor says well he just a Food & Beverage Manager nothing he can do. He seem to have stick up his a** . Then the manager comes who is clueless on everything that's happening and was confused why no one called him in the first place so we explain our situation and what happen. He explain they don't give money back unfortunately it's a policy. I call that Bull**it but hey at this point he seem to know more then the other idiots. So he took out information down he said he or his manager will contact us to speak on possibility of redoing our party another day to make up the madness. At this point kids are tired I'm frustrated. So now I sit and wait for someone to call me. Food: was ok it's typical finger food there is a 20-45 min wait on food there machine was down so they kept asking for receipt to make people food cause they couldn't see the orders on the screen. You think all the money they spend on the place looking nice they would have working registers and screens.
