Done a fair few zipline courses in my time -- pushing 50 or so -- with about half over in Hawai'i. But today was my first crack here in lush Rotorua, and honestly... blew me away, eh. Place is unreal, and the scale's next level. Longest line's around 400 metres, and you're absolutely sending it over a ravine that's gotta be pushing 100 metres deep. Reckon I'm about ready to move back here -- ready, set, jet if Canopy starts flogging an annual pass . Quick post-mortem: there's two courses - Canopy and Ultimate. If you're a proper zipline fiend, start with the classic and work your way up. I stuffed it and went straight for Ultimate thinking it was just longer. Looking back, I'd book both back-to-back... just not on the same day if you're stepping down a notch in the views and buzz. read more

It was more than worth the money spent on this adventure as we were educated about the surroundings, kept quite secure by thorough safety procedures, entertained by the two zipline guides/masters, and even experienced a couple occasions where birds, absent of fear, fed from our open hand. Visiting from states and my cousin took me here. The experience was amazing. We had Emma and Alex lead us and they felt like life long friends! I unfortunately got motion sick and started having bad stomach issues and had to cut the tour short. Alex and Emma both were both very accommodating and nonjudgmental, even when I was literally projectile vomiting LOL. They are absolutely amazing and deserve a big big raise!!! This is a must if you are anywhere near Rotorua! Worth making the trip just to visit this amazing town. This tour was the absolute highlight of our visit to NZ!! Our guides, Taylor and Vincent made the Ultimate Canopy Tour extra fun with their hilarious banter. They kept us all laughing, somehow remembered all of our names, and catered to our son as well. We've gone on a few ziplines tours in different countries over the years and I daresay this was our favorite. Great experience! My first and only time ziplining previous to this was in the Costa Rican cloudforest, so I will be the first to admit that I have high expectations for ziplining. Really loved these guys! My boyfriend and I did the Ultimate Canopy tour and it was fantastic. The six ziplines were nice and varied in length and in height, so you really get a sense of the forest. They even have a tandem zipline, which I had never experienced before! The suspension bridges and cliff walk are great bonuses as well. But one of my favorite things was the amount I learned -- the company really uses the opportunity to teach you about native New Zealand flora and fauna, and local conservation efforts, and it added so much depth to the adventure. Highly recommend our guides Dana and Zania, they were so much fun!! read more

Jayne and I had a great time on this Eco tour. Not only did we get the adrenaline rush and beautiful scenery that comes with stepping into nothing at 22 metres up, whizzing over the treetops, but we got the history of an essential conservation project on this lush and amazing site. This was hands down one of the most memorable experiences of my time in New Zealand, and maybe even in my life time! Not only did I learn a lot about the natural ecosystem of NZ, but I also learned a lot about the Maori interactions with the forest. I also conquered a fear of heights and of extreme sports like zip lining. There is literally nothing better than to be zip lining through a massive forest, just contemplating the beauty of God's creation. It's exhilarating. This was one of the best things we did on our New Zealand trip! I highly recommend booking a tour if you visit- well worth the drive to Rotorua. We did the 8am tour, and it was perfect weather- a little chilly, but refreshing. The amount of information that our guides, Matt and Cam, provided was great! I felt like a kid on a field trip again, learning about the different indigenous birds and other critters of the forest. They definitely made our tour even better! The ziplining itself is so much fun! It was my first time, and the fact that I felt so comfortable and safe right away speaks volumes for the professionalism and trustworthiness of this company. This was the best experience we had during our 15 days in NZ. 1200 meters of zip lines broken into 6 zips (longest was about 400m with speeds around 70km) three bridge walks, a cool drop and some fantastic stair climbs into the canopy of a Virgin forest. This is the Ultimate package, which is definitely worth the extra money. You will be safe the whole way as you will be clipped into a safety harness which you can squeeze with all your might if it makes you feel more comfortable. Your zip dollars go to helping maintain the 250+ hectare forest and reducing NZ predators, so you can feel good about your experience in giving back to the island. If you are lucky enough to get Dashing Dan or Haley (The Comet... aka Haley's Comet) you are in for a special treat as their people skills, stories and enthusiasm are infectious. They will be adding additional double zipping capacity in about 2 weeks ! One of the greatest things you can do in Rotorua if you have got 3 hours to spare. Once you are geared up at their hq. They will transport you to the not so secret forest. Where both of the tour guides will take you on a wonderful walk through some of the most amazing trees and spot some great local birds. The zip tour consists of 6 zip lines. Fear not even if you are scared of height. The harness that you get, acts kind like a seat. So you are in a more comfortable seated position when you zip across the line. The longest line is 220m. And it's almost 40m off the ground. This one need a bit more courage. I have seen senior citizens get on it, so it shouldn't be too scary ;-). At the end of the tour, they will show you all the wonderful things they are doing to protect our native forest. And a percentage of the ticket sale is used to help the cause. So overall, great fun and very educational. read more

This is something that I would recommend doing. It's great fun and not as scary as you might think. I did this with my son who's 9 and he loved it too. Please be aware that there is a minimum weight of 27 kilos, they can weigh you at the ticket office if you are not sure. My 8 year old daughter wasn't heavy enough. At the end you also do a trust fall (about 13 m I think) which is a bonus. The guys who worked here were excellent, they were good fun and made the whole experience more enjoyable. We paid $39 each, normal price $49 but it's certainly worth doing at least once. 80kph hanging off a wire is not something I do every day. We did this and the luge package and it made for a great day out. Definitely go here if you are in the area and have kids who love this sort of thing. read more
