I emailed (on a thread they had previously replied to) that I needed to cancel my reservation on March 23rd. I emailed again on April 6th. I have since been attempting to get refunded. I only got responses after complaining on Facebook posts. I emailed them and said I was about to get very vocal if they didn't refund me well over a week ago. They asked for my bank details and I told them that was shady and there was no way I was doing that, that they could refund my credit card. I never heard another peep. I've just reported them to The Commerce commission along with all our correspondence.

Not a big deal, the reason why I'm giving the room 3 stars was the bathroom. And really, it's my own personal preference. There was no separate shower, meaning there wasn't a bathtub or a wall to seperate the shower from the toilet and sink so when you showered, over half of the bathroom floor got wet which was aggravating. The service at this hotel though was excellent. The people are very pleasant. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant, (Breakfast was included in the cost of the room). The food was pretty tasty, the prices were very reasonable, and the service was excellent - everyone was so nice, helpful, and pleasant. If you're not picky about your bathroom, I do recommend Okoroire Hot Spring Hotel. We had a nice experience here.

Other high points were the staff- Raj and his team were genuinely nice to me, but when my buddy came down to ask for soap he was literally told to F off. Down the hall was the bathroom. Everything was kept clean, but they probably haven't made improvements since this place opened in the 60's or 70's to the rooms. Not sure what the age of the bathroom was. I was pretty tired and it's all a blur now. However, for 2 guys who needed a place to stay for a night, it worked just fine. It's located right off the main drag of this otherwise very quaint town. Staff was super friendly when we checked in and very helpful. They had some sort of rule about coming in late with keys, but I can't remember, but the key situation with getting to the rooms was different than I've ever seen before. There's a bar at the bottom of the inn and a grocery store that has seen better days across the street. I can't imagine spending more than 1 night here though. I think it's okay for a just-passing-through type of place.

The service was excellent, everyone was very friendly and quickly got us situated in our room even though we had just booked it online 10 mins before. There is parking in a lot behind the hotel, so don't do what we did and drive around for 30 mins trying to find parking on the street. The room was very nice. Spacious as I mentioned. Elegantly decorated with clean linens and a huge and clean bathroom. There was a mini fridge for sure, I don't recall if there was also a microwave. It was quiet and sleeping was no problem. On pulling the sheet back, there was a large mark on the sheet near the pillow, which seemed to be a sticky gum-like substance. We made a call to front desk (unanswered) and then room service (also a 40 minute wait by the way) to address the issue. We then had to get dressed again and wait for housekeeping - who dealt with it quickly and remade the bed for us. They expressed their regret and apologised. They assured us this would be followed up as it was not a good standard. On checkout the next morning, no mention was made from staff around this housekeeping issue, nor the interruption to our stay (and the feeling that our room had not been setup to a clean standard). I brought up the matter and received a quick and insincere apology before being presented with our parking charges. Whilst we were happy the matter was dealt to - and the housekeeping lady that attended clearly was unhappy with whomever had made up the bed with dirty sheets, we were not happy with total lack of remediation at checkout. Paying what we did for a single night, an insincere apology really didn't cut it. To have such a response from the staff member at checkout was both insulting and completely unsympathetic. To add further insult to injury after we sent feedback, we were offered a free breakfast 'on our return'. Since when does a future discount remediate poor service? I raised this again and the hotel disagreed with any kind of cash recompense. This could have easily been satisfactorily sorted by comping the parking but they managed to make it worse. We won't be back. Hotel is tired and shabby and our floor smelled of Ammonia. Note - Housekeeping response and communication was excellent. It's a shame the same couldn't be said for those whose role it is to be frontline customer service.
