I said, 'I have the booking here, and it has been paid for. He said, 'I don't care.' I continued to try to query him, but he just repeated back to me what I said. I asked if anybody else was around that I could talk to, and he just said 'no'. At this stage, I told him he has the worst customer service skills that I have ever experienced, and I'm sure if his management saw how he was treating a supposed customer, they would be horrified. He even started yelling, telling me to go away. He then stopped talking completely. He had refused to help in any way and was rude and disrespectful. As a 67 year old women being just left to try and sort something out. I have never been so poorly treated. If this is indicative of the customer service at Oceanside, I will not be staying there in future. As I travel to Mount Manuganui for 4 days every month I will no longer include Oceanside in my selection. Don't subject yourself to the rudeness of the receptionist. There are much better places.

Oceanside Resort & Twin Towers- Go Elsewhere…read more At the foot of Mount Maunganui in Tauranga, NZ. Oceanside Resort & Twin Towers may provide you with the best physical location to stay in the MM area. Just across the street to the MM walking paths, and around the corner from many sidewalk restaurants. However, don't let the cool view in the ad or a promotion fool you. Available rooms aren't in the big towers - they are in the 3-story building behind the towers. We quickly discovered the rooms advertised provided two options 1) an ocean view apartment $260/night (about 5 ft between two buildings) or 2) a first-floor no-view studio for $180. We saw the $120 promotions on Kayak and other booking sites and stopped into the reception area while visiting the area. The receptionist (a gentleman that looks like Victor Maitland from Beverly Hills Cop), appeared put off and bothered that we were there. He read the script and didn't make us feel welcome at all. I think this location is a retirement community with a few extra rooms they rent out. We really wanted the ocean view, so decided to try the apartment for the view. The apartment had two bathrooms, washer/dryer, a kitchen, a living area and dining area, with underground parking, and was spacious but very outdated. Décor was cheap and old - like your grandparents' home in the 90's. We tried to go to the pools but they were closed and the receptionist was far from accommodating when I asked about it. Also the buildings Wi-Fi didn't work well in the unit or lobby and there were ants crawling all over the kitchen. We enjoyed the physical location, but accommodations were not worth their rate and attitude. If you are staying 2 or more days (to leverage washer/dryer and location), then look into Air B&B for other locations down the street. Although the unit we stayed was available the next night, the same front desk person would not give us a late checkout - very strict 10am checkout. So bottom line, they have rooms in a great location, but accommodations and service were lame. There were no restaurants, lounges or extra amenities on site. Apartment may be good for large family to spread out a little bit and save money with one room? Personally - Go elsewhere!

The other people staying a the same time as us were from the UK and it was very cool to have breakfast and conversation with people from all over the world. Graham and Diane pointed us in the direction of things to do in the area regarding anything we asked and additionally had a lot of touristy information easily accessible for finding anything and everything you could want to do. The rooms were very well kept, clean, and inviting. The internet was fast in all parts of the home and it was a secured network, so this would be a great place to vacation if you work remotely. Graham and Diane were some of the nicest people we have ever met and were very engaging in conversation, but also allowed us as much privacy as we needed! The house is located a very short walk to the beach for amazing sunrises and the neighborhood has a pool you can swim in too! I can't express how much we enjoyed our time staying here and being the first bed and breakfast I've personally stayed at, I'm so glad I did. It was like a little piece of home in all of the hotels we stayed at during our honeymoon to Australia and NZ and they definitely left a lasting impression. We look forward to coming back to stay again and wouldn't stay anywhere else! We share with everyone we speak to about NZ to stay here and if you are considering staying here, you absolutely should! I promise you will not be disappointed.

It was really hard for me to rate this place. We booked into it through the iSite in Tauranga,…read morewhile I was travelling with my family who were visiting from the U.S. I will say that it had been a long day of traveling with a 3-year-old, a 1-year-old and with some sort of respiratory infection that was leaving me far short of my best, so that my have colored my impression. When we checked-in, the host was friendly enough. He asked about how hot (or not) we would like the mineral pool in our rooms (nice! mineral pool) and made some recommendations about local activities that would be fun with the kids. When we got to our room, I felt like I was in a time warp (think 70's - 80's). You can see from my photos, that I actually do believe some of the pillows and things are from the 80's (or earlier). Could the whole place do with a major facelift? For sure. Was it clean and basically accounting for everything we needed? Yes. So again, a bit difficult to sort out where to put the rating. Our mineral pool (also see picture) was nothing to look at aesthetically, and it was on the verge of being unbearably hot (but we managed) it was was very nice and relaxing at the end of this particular day. The pipe in the middle of it made a somewhat annoying sucking sound constantly, but once you got past that part, it was ok. The kitchenette had all the basics needed (pots, plates, cups, wine glasses), a kettle, microwave and small fridge, two burners and a sink. Was it fancy? No. Operational? Yes. The bathroom. Oh, the bathroom. It misses the 70's. Toiletries were NOT included, so make sure you have your own shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc. or whatever else you might have left at home, hoping the hotels would have them. I didn't shower here, because I didn't really want to. The shower itself looked fine, clean, etc. but the shower head looked like it belonged in a Barbie (i.e. plastic) doll house instead of in a motel. An upgrade there alone could bring it into this millenium. They do have a heated pool on the property (we didn't use it) and the option to get breakfast (for a charge) to your room in the morning (also, didn't do it). At the end of the day, if you are looking for some fairly clean, basic and don't mind about the decor being outdated, this place is a reasonable option. If you want something that is special in any sort of way, modern or upscale, look elsewhere.
