If you're ever in New Zealand, make sure Hobbiton is on your list of must-see attractions. I visited today, 11/22/24, as part of a cruise stop, and let me tell you--it was the perfect way to experience a bit of movie magic! Whether you're a fan of The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit, or just love stunning scenery, this tour will leave you spellbound.
The journey begins as you step into The Shire, the iconic home of the Hobbits, tucked away on the Alexander family's 1250-acre farm just outside of Matamata. The moment you arrive, it's like stepping into another world--lush pastures, rolling hills, and the majestic Kaimai Ranges in the distance. The setting is absolutely breathtaking, and you can see why Sir Peter Jackson chose this land to bring J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth to life.
The 90-minute tour is led by an expert guide who takes you on a leisurely walk through the set, highlighting the most famous locations and giving you behind-the-scenes insights on how the movies were made. As you stroll past the colorful Hobbit Holes, you'll feel like you're walking in the footsteps of Bilbo and Frodo. The attention to detail is incredible! I especially loved the iconic Bag End, where the adventure begins, and getting a peek inside a Hobbit's home on Bagshot Row. Every little detail is perfect, from the tiny furniture to the cozy atmosphere.
Along the way, you'll pass The Millhouse, cross the beautiful double-arch stone bridge, and finally arrive at the Green Dragon Inn, where the tour ends with a complimentary drink from the Hobbit Southfarthing range. It's the perfect way to end your Middle-earth adventure--relaxing with a pint in hand while soaking in the magical surroundings.
I couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the stunning scenery to the immersive tour, Hobbiton is an absolute must-see for fans of the films, as well as anyone looking to experience the beauty and charm of New Zealand. Highly recommend! read more
