Roti is probably my favorite lunch spot of all time. The food is fresh, delicious, and super easy to order online. I also think that the prices are very reasonable considering what you get. I wish I could provide specific recommendations, but honestly everything's good. The meat, the feta, the couscous, the salads, the sauces, THE PITA ... so good. I also love that you can customize your plate a la Chipotle rather than paying for items you're not crazy about eating (though, of course, you'd be crazy not to eat everything at Roti). read more

For a fast casual place to grab a tasty bite under 10 bucks, I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. I had their Sultan Sandwich - chicken (grilled?) with some delicious spicy sauce (you can choose to nix this if you're not a spice fan), hummus, tomato and cucumber salad, lettuce, and red cabbage slaw. They also have other dressings you can add, like dill yogurt or tahini. Note I ate this pita "sandwich" with a fork - it's one of those places where they layer things so if you want even tasting bites, you have to mix it up yourself. The pita bread was soft, moist, and denser than I expected. Chicken had great flavor, possibly due to the spicy sauce. Veggies looked and tasted fresh. We thought we'd try it for a quick lunch and were very pleasantly surprised. We spent 21$ for 2 adults, which included 2 meals and a shared bottle of iced tea. The meals were a Flalafel plate and something called the BPE (Best Plate Ever). Silly name, really. Basically chicken and condiments / sides. Both meals came with warm flatbread. For a chain the meals at about 8$ a pop were very very tasty. the hummus and cous cous were flavorful and the falafel in particular was good according to the vegetarian with me. The grilled veggies were good as well. The plates were big and full and we both left very satisfied at about 1PM. We were fine until 7PM from that one lunch. I recommend this place over your typical fast food place any second as it is a class up from that. Only think not to like: their interior decoration is stunted. I went during the lunch rush and this place was packed. Foes service was assembly line style and sloppy. My food was tossed together and my pita was wet from tomato/cucumber juice that I didn't order as a topping. I asked that they remake it because it was sloppy. Falafel is traditionally a vegan dish, but here it's vegetarian. That made me slightly nervous about how it would taste. It was ok at best and their website doesn't list the falafel ingredients. You should have seen my eyes, when employee mixed everything together into one big mess. Looked unappetizing. I enjoyed it. The spacious and calm atmosphere struck me initially. There are flyer-type menus located at the entrance, which explain the ordering process. The fact that I could look at this menu while in line contributed to my knowing exactly what I wanted when I got to the counter. Unlike "choose your topping" places like Chipotle, the menu is easy to read (but could be bigger, physically) and it illustrates the variety of the restaurant. I love Mediterranean food. And this gets as authentic as possible, while staying accessible, affordable, and fast. The service is good, and the food is fresh. I had to wait four minutes for fresh falafel top go in my pita, but the counter person brought it out to me when it was done. They have free sides of Tahiti sauce! I was disappointed to discover the rice plate is just cafeteria style lumps of food rather than the typical rice bowl. Some of the individual components are done well (for example, the lamb meatballs and pickled onions) but most were relatively bland (i.e., the aforementioned scoop of rice, roasted vegetables that seemed to mostly be carrots, couscous). Nothing special. With all of the Mediterranean options in Chicago, you can do better than Roti. The food was lukewarm and pretty bland with maybe the red pepper sauce being the exception. The falafel was more like soggy falafel tatertots, and my friend's chicken kabob was dry/hard and had that feeling like it had been left out too long. We went at a normal dinner time, so it's not like it was a slow middle of the day issue with the food. It's also kind of lame that toppings like feta count the same as side items with your 3 options for a plate. On the upside the restaurant was very clean, and the service was quick as it's a Chipotle style line - possibly the explanation why the food didn't taste very fresh. I had one of the worst experiences at this location this past Saturday night. I ordered a pickup order at 5:45pm for 6:30pm. I arrived at 6:32pm and was told my order was not ready, the chicken was cooking. At 6:45 I asked where my order was and they said they were still working on it. At 6:50pm, I asked to speak to manager. He was not polite or apologetic and went into the back room. My order finally was ready at 7:02pm, the manager did not come out nor apologize. All I received was a "I'm sorry" from the cashier. I have left feedback and emailed via Roti's website and received no response.
