What I just witnessed was some of the worst customer service I have seen in a while. A young person was returning something that needed either an assistant manager or manager to handle. Tom came over and raked this customer over the coals for returning it, and said it was the same thing they had returned before. They explained they didn't work, and he told them they'd never work and they needed to go buy an Apple product. They apologized, and he just kept berating them. That poor person. The rest of us in line were mortified for them. Roth's just lost my business. I can put up with the higher prices as long as service is good, but this was awful. I felt so bad for this person - I hope they also never go there again. read more

OMG - burgers cooked to order in the deli. I thoroughly enjoyed the cheese burger that was grilled in front of me and assembled with the condiments and extras I selected. And I was craving tots and ordered the large. Dinner was half a burger and about a dozen tots. Lunch the next day was the other half of the burger and about a dozen tots, and part of the third day's lunch included the rest of the tots. I requested the Bob's sauce for dipping and thinned it out with some mayo. Husband enjoyed the pastrami on marbled rye. We wanted to go back to explore the rest of the store, but ran out of time on our recent visit to Salem. read more

They have a good meat department, wine selection and bakery. I am never disappointed. The meat cutters are very helpful. Ask them anything. They can procure specialty cuts. They also source their meats from good sources. I have never had a less than excellent cut of meat. The cake decorators are amazing. They made a Beautiful Yummy cake for my child's birthday. The sand is made with cinnamon and sugar!!! The photo does not do the cake justice (I am not a photographer). My child stared at the cake for a while taking it all in. We had many compliments on the cake while waiting to check out. Too bad, due to COVID-19 we could not have people over to share the cake. They also have some of the best donuts in Salem. If anyone is reading this from Roth's, it would be nice if your produce was always fresh, just take away the stuff about to turn. If I pick up one thing that is not crisp, I stop and I plan my produce run to one of your competitors. Wine selection is very good. read more

I've been trading with Roth's for over 22 years. I do think they really missed the ball not installing automatic checkout stations, because they have struggled with sourcing civil and competent retail clerks nearly all this time. In no other chain do I have to watch so carefully to see I am not mischarged, especially with produce with its four-digit codes. I usually have a better experience here than at the Vista store. I have never had the deli make me a lunch and whether they do that well I just don't know. Prices are high-end; if I also encounter a stone-faced checker I do wonder, why would anyone trade here? read more

Overall I'm happy with Roth's Market and had never tried their burgers. I went Saturday after the NBA season was suspended due to Corvid-19 pandemonium. I was really impressed with the simplicity of ordering the burger and making it customizable with different toppings and sides. The burger ordered for dine in looked great and it tasted really great. The seasoned beef patty was delicious, I went with green chilies and pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and Bob's Sauce (burger sauce similar to In-n-Out) Highly recommend trying the burgers at Roth's. I used to live near this store and shopped here merely because it was close. Roth's, to me, portrays itself as an 'upscale' grocery store. The prices are mostly higher than any other store and they tend to carry more local Oregon products. I was single when I shopped here, so I wasn't buying all that much, especailly since I travelled for work. Many times I would be standing at the grill with several other guys waiting for the chinese food to be whipped up for us. Either they were single too, or the wives were out of town! The Quality Of Your Sandwiches Is Spot On. They Should Be Since My Sandwich Was Over $14 & My Wifes Was Over $10. No, The Sandwiches Were Nicely Made. No, This Involved The Customer Service That We DID NOT Receive In The Deli, From An Employee Named Chris. Walking & Standing Is Extremely Hard For Me Because Of A Bad Knee & Back. We Ordered The Sandwich ... No Problem. We Walked Over To The Cash Register Lines ... No Problem We Came Back Over To The Deli ... No Problem We Waited To Be Spoken To. An Employee Asked If He Could Help Us? I Told Him We Had (2) Sandwiches. He Pointed To The Deli Register & Stated (I WILL BE THERE IN A MINUTE) We Walked Over There. I rarely go here because the service is unfriendly The bread is moldy, the prices are outrageous and to top it off, every time I go in there is a sour odor. This store is small, cramped, not a big selection and has moldy produce and bread. I love Roths and shop there frequently. This is the first time I have been to this one. I went in to purchase some honey sticks and found that they have them located at the check stand. By a stroke of unfortunate luck I ended up in Mike's line. Mike, you are SO RUDE! As I was checking out, I asked him if he knew what time the newspaper arrived in the morning. Also, whether or not said newspaper will have the mega ads for the holiday. He said "I have no idea what you are talking about". Fair enough, so I asked again and the jerk actually waved his hand in a circular motion to speed me up! WOW! Thank goodness the gentle elderly man in line behind me and the woman working at the check stand next to us chimed in and very nicely answered my question. To add insult to injury he placed my purchase in a paper bag and moved on to the next person ASAP without moving my bag to a place where I would reach it. So what gives? I was nice and pleasant and my entire consisted of 10 honey sticks, one question and a brown paper bag. I couldn't have upset him too much in our 5 minute exchange. Some people embrace the holiday season and some dread it's ominous presence. I suppose Mike is grouped in the latter category. With it being the day before Thanksgiving I imagine that today was very busy. Still, I would never expect to be treated this way at a place where I pay a decently inflated price and justify it by it's positive staff. Yuck. Won't be back. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with Roth's. Love: fresh produce and meats, local/organic/unique products (e.g. honey, jam, sauces, breads, beer, wine) , and friendly and helpful staff. Hate: the prices. If you're trying to make this your usual grocery store, you'll be spending a lot- everyday basics are more expensive here. For example a gallon of milk is $3.99, when it's $2.50-$3.00 at other grocery stores. I stick to the deals and coupons advertised in their weekly flyer and it's not too bad. read more

The website for online ordering from the grille hasn't worked in weeks and store management has been unresponsive to inquiries as to why. Best donuts in town! The produce is always fresh, and they have a lot of locally grown options. The meat is middle of the road, it used to be be the best but has gone down the last few years. They have a wide variety of products, many of which are organic, vegan or gluten free. I would be giving five stars if the prices were more reasonable. While this place has always been a bit spendy, I always love going in. They have really fresh Sushi (they make it fresh in the West Salem location), their deli always has amazing food too. They have an amazing kosher section too which is hard to find in Oregon. Husband used to prefer I shop there with my first pregnancies because they always carry out. Sheryl, the deli manager, surpassed my expectations for 3 custom platters. She helped me decide on meats, cheeses and fruit for my friend's baby shower. She was knowledgeable, friendly and really knows her business in helping me figure out what to get for 40 people! Her communication really put me at ease and she assured me in helping me to order the correct amount of food. The presentation was lovely, so sad I didn't take pictures! The rest of the deli staff was so helpful and courteous I am beyond belief at how they went above and beyond I for such a reasonable price. Roths has really come a long way over the years. They used to just be over priced. Now they actually carry lots of unique items and organic produced that is overpriced, so its an improvement. Since I prefer to eat organic, it's the place that I will shop. They have all the same produce and more than Lifesource, at a better price. This is the best Roths in town, the one in West Salem being too short in supply. They also have an excellent bulk aisle. To me, its worth the extra money I spend to get organic produce. If you're a conventional shopper, stick to Winco! read more

I really like the Vista Roths...so I'm kinda comparing that location to this (since they are so close together). This location has some severe downfalls in comparison to Vista. #1. VERY slow deli -- and the help isn't usually friendly/fast. #2. Check-out. Usually, Roths staffs enough people so that you never have to wait long -- but not at this location. And with the HIGH Roths prices you're paying, this shouldn't be the case. #3. Bakery. Again, staff not the best -- and the quality of product isn't the same as Vista. #4. Layout. The fruit and vegetable section is weirdly laid out -- and hard to locate items and navigate. Also, very cramped if other carts are about. #5. Busy. This store is usually WAY MORE PACKED with people than at Vista. read more

I don't shop here for groceries often but I occasionally enjoy their hot deli food as it's made fresh to order. when i first started coming my orders were always made very quickly and exactly how i asked. but the past 3-4 times I've come in, my order has taken almost 20min and is almost always messed up. The last two times my order has been SO unbelievably messed up I honestly feel like the people behind the counter just don't care or think it's some joke. Last time i ordered a veggie burger with lettuce/tomato/onion/the works (let me state i order the same exact order every time and multiple employees have said they know my order by now) and added avocado. i take my food to go and get home only to realize they made a burger with ONLY avocado, nothing else. i was super nice last time and figured maybe someone had just had a bad day or they are busy. Tonight i ordered again the SAME thing i always order, and get: an over cooked patty, ONE piece of lettuce, ONE piece of tomato, and not even half a ring of onion. to top it all off they left off half the condiments AND only gave me a single tiny slice of avocado that they charge $1.00 for. when I came back so they could correct my order, the lady who made it was so rude, never even said sorry about the mistake, and literally SHOVED my remade burger towards me over the counter and gave me a dirty look. i'm done giving this place chances read more

Roths has the best service and this is, by far, the best Roths in town. The checkers and courtesy clerks are very helpful if you have any questions and have a wide knowledge of the store. The store itself has a wide variety of quality goods including gourmet foods and high quality meats/produce. The prices are a little spendy but it's worth it. read more
