We've been Roth Wine Club members for a few years and I was surprised to see I haven't done an updated review since pre-Covid! Will correct that now with comments on our mid-November visit. We usually visit Roth each fall. This past fall, as well as in 2024, Jeff was our wine specialist. With 50 years in the hospitality business, Jeff knows how to care for guests. A true pro. Jesse was also in the tasting room and chimed in with helpful background on wines. DH and I always enjoy when a winery is not too busy and that we can chat with ... and learn from ... the wine specialists. Roth was our first stop for the day so we paced ourselves with the five wines. We begin with a Rose of Malbec. Not sure of the vintage. Both 2023 and 2024 were on the price list. The color was beautiful, but the taste rather ordinary. We might have had a different impression on a warm summer day. The 2023 Barrel Select Sauvignon Blanc was next. I enjoyed it more than DH did. Nothing wrong with it, but we prefer New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs. Next up was the 2022 Chardonnay. It is only in the last few years that we've sought out Chardonnays. We enjoyed a few bottles of this wine last spring. A taste confirmed that our memory was right ... a lovely Chard. We bought two bottles. Very reasonable price of $38.40 for members. The 2022 Reserve Merlot was our next wine. 100% Merlot, not a blend as in some years. Bought one bottle: $48 member price. We ended the tasting with one of our favorites: Ode to the Beast. Truly a beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon. And well named! We've enjoyed a couple of bottles of the 2021 vintage this past year (95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot). This was our first taste of the 2022 vintage which has a slightly different blend: 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec, 11% Petit Verdot, and 2% mixed reds. Not sure our palates our discerning enough to detective the difference had we done a side by side tasting. Ode to the Beast is $95 retail and is almost as good as some Cabs we've had in the $150 range. $76 for club members is a bargain. We had a couple of bottles waiting at home so decided to pass ... probably a mistake. What else can I say about Roth? It seems to be a well kept secret. Admittedly the grounds and small tasting room are nothing to get excited about. (The caves, however, are another story.) Tasting fee is only $20 per person; up to four complimentary for members. Staff always helpful and shipping easy. Bottom line: some all around good whites and reds. With retail prices from $36 to $95, these are very affordable wines. And a few thoughts about the Roth cave tasting. If available, try it! In our 50+ years of wine tasting in California, we have the Roth Cave Tasting in our top 10 of wine experiences. read more

We traveled in from Napa to Healdsburg for a trip through Napa Valley and our Napa resort concierge recommended that we stop by Roth Estate on the way to our next resort and highly recommended the wines and overall tasting experience. The resort concierge made a reservation for us in advance and we arrived a few minutes before our appointment and were warmly greeted by the winery host staff. The host allowed us to select any table around and welcomed us to walk around and sit anywhere in the winery, it really made us feel at home and welcome. We had a tasting experience that included a flight of wines and a local cheese and charcuterie plate and it really gave us a good variety of wines to experience. Our host was absolutely outstanding and very knowledgable about the wines and the entire food and beverage operation. The host also showed us their wine caves and offered to take our photos as well. We really enjoyed their Pinot Noir's and we picked up a bottle to take home with us as well. The Roth Estate experience really was a great one and we look forward to returning the next time we are in the area! read more

Well Stuart is our wine consultant this time around and we could not be any happier! The wine is always excellent, charcuterie board delish, but the service is impeccable. Such great vibes we decided to stay instead of going to the next winery. They even cancelled our reservation at the next winery for us and allowed us to extend our visit with them. The weather which seemed to coexist with the ultra experience but something tells me even if it was cold and raining it would still be a great experience. The music in the background, vibe of the place, comfortable seating (we sat outside but there are choice seating inside) and serene environment just takes you to Healdsburg Winery lane. Another winery that's totally amazing. Starting the day off with an early tasting, first appointment of the the day. We ran a little late but called to give them the heads up. They were very pleasant and sweet about it. Even though the whole day, they were booked. They still was able to accommodate us. Upon arrival, the property is amazing. Beautiful vineyard and tasting room. Greeted with a pour to start our tasting experience. We were taken care by Benjamin. A doll and sweetheart. Very knowledgeable with his craft and such a presence about him that makes him so welcoming. Great service from him as well as everyone that was there on our visit. With it being such a nice morning, we had a table outside which was perfect. The tasting room of course was inside but with everything covid, it was all done outside. Regardless, it was great. The wine flight was amazing. Starting off, we were even brought out something to pair with a tasting. Spam Masubi that was oh so tasty. The chef thats on the property has skills. Not only was that served, we ordered a cheese plate. With that being said, it wasn't one of those prepackaged cheese and cracker board. They were made to order and presented beautifully. The selections of cheese were amazing and accompanied with the nuts, dried apricots and honey. Beautiful presentation was a plus. Wine flight was great as well. The whole visit was top notch and amazing. Service was great with friendly staff and beautiful property. Highly recommend this place. And a great perk when your a member. Bad service, might be prejudicial. My guest and I arrived about 25min early for tasting. Server said was totally fine. Sat us down and gave us a glass of rosé to start off. Asked if we were club members, we said we're Foley connoisseur members (from the bigger company that also gets free tastings and not the personal Roth club member). She seemed to be uninterested and turned off by this. Didn't come back for more than 40min. Other customers around us were served. We got up, left and will never come back. Maybe it was the membership, the way we looked (race, clothing) or just forgetful. Sad because other Foley wineries are more welcoming to us on the same day. No view at terrace of rolling hills as other nearby wineries. Most wine offerings are blends with grapes from other regions. Likely, we didn't missing much. read more

Second time visiting Roth this week, first time was for the Wine Road Winter Wineland event, the staff was friendly and service very informative. We loved going in the wine cave and enjoyed the wines and experience very much. We came back midweek to enjoy a bottle during a rainy day and joined the wine club. This was our 1st stop of a 3 day wine tasting adventure! Benjamin, our host set that bar high! He walked us down the long cave corridor to a table for 2 where we had a quick basket lunch and several different wines. He is a young guy but he definitely knows his wines and specifically the years that are the best! Being this was my 1st official wine tasting tour, I was very impressed by the way the interior of a mountain is set up for wine storage. A constant 58 degrees kept us comfortable as he told us alot about all the wines. His personal favorites and well as others peoples. It's a beautiful estate when you first drive in. A big barn building greets you as you enter. You'll see red umbrellas in a small quaint patio area as you enter the estate. A small tasting room on the left is good for 10 + people. Walking into the cave you'll see 50 barrels of wine lining both sides of the wall. The caves wall have lighting to really enhance the beauty of this place! 2rooms on either side at the end of the walkway are lined with bottles of wines on display and comfortable chairs and a table are waiting for you to sit and enjoy the surroundings and the wine. We usually do wine country without our 2 kids, but we were passing through Healdsburg on our family vacation. I know quite a few wineries don't allow children, so I did a quick search online and found that Roth Winery does. First off, the place is gorgeous! The staff couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming when we walked in. Laura was the BEST host! The wines were all fantastic and the cheese board was a perfect addition to the table. We were all hungry :). We sat outside and our kids got to play board games and Jenga. I think they had as much fun as we did. We were so lucky to have found Roth Winery. We will have many fond memories of this place and will definitely return next year. read more

We didn't have a reservation and they don't take same day reservations online, so we stopped by and they were able to accommodate us right then. If you aren't able to book or get ahold of them, I would suggest stopping by to see if they have availability. We went on a week day, weekends may be more difficult without a reservation. I've been wine tasting in Napa, Sonoma and surrounding areas for years and this is one of the best experiences I've had. Jesse was an amazing host and so welcoming. - I loved every single wine that was poured ($35 for tasting, bottles are reasonably priced at $30 and up) - The grounds and the cave are really nice and it's great that you can go on a tour - apparently there are bison on the property (I didn't see any unfortunately) I will definitely be back, 10/10 experience! read more

A lovely winery and some scrumptous wines. Made a quick stop here the other day after a delightful Yelp event at a neighboring winery. This place is a real find. Lovely grounds. A delightful wine cave and some really yummy wines. Excellent service and information from our server, Brook. Two other darling young men servers, Brian and Ned were helpful too. i didn't taste many wines as I'd already had "a bit" but really enjoyed their 2014 Alexander Valley Sau Blan. Their wine is incredible. I'm long overdue on reviewing them. I first went here more than 5 years ago. Was just my partner and I then and we loved it. Then I came back with my family and my dad loved so much he joined their wine club! He's been a member ever since. I just went to his home and he gave me a bottle of their 2014 cab. Just delicious. The grounds are beautiful too, of course. But I'm glad to see he's still in enjoying their wine, and of course, I am too. Now I gotta convince him to get me a case for the holidays!! read more

This place wasn't my favorite. From the area you do tastings there is not a grape or vine to be seen. So you feel like you're just in any building or outdoor space. Might as well be drinking wine from home in my opinion. We did a tasting as part of a tour we were on. I didn't care for any of the wines we tried. They also served us a picnic lunch which I didn't care for. We were excited to check out their cellar area (which was supposed to be included with our tasting), but since they got behind on the tasting they told us we had to go to the next spot and skip the cellar. I found this quite annoying. I won't be back here and I wouldn't recommend it to others given the number of great vineyards in the area! read more

Every time I come to Roth, I have the most amazing time. At the beginning of August we attended an Adults at Play event and the next day we returned and joined the club. The wine is so delicious and for price they charge? I almost don't want to post how affordable it is because I don't want other people to know their secret! The wine costs way less than they should be charging and I'm hoping no one ever figures this out! (Shh6 Everyone always greets us with such happiness and joy and it's seriously so much fun to visit each and every time we do. This was one of my stops for barrel tasting weekend and I must say this is the one place that I enjoyed myself the most. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with smiles at the entrance of the winery. Most wineries when they see a group of 6 college students they immediately give us the cold shoulder but Roth went above and beyond and made us feel welcomed. They had two barrels to taste from and additional tastings inside the tasting room. We came 30 minutes before barrel tasting ended but they let us know that they would be having an after party called "Adults at play." Where they had live acoustic music and additional tastings of their wines! They also had complimentary Pozole and chips! In addition to the amazing wine, they offer they also have games around the winery such as corn hole and Jenga! Can't wait to visit again with family and friends! read more

Had a really great experience tasting the full slate of wines available to this group of vineyards. a Wide array of reds and some equally as impressive whites, but what was most impressive was the knowledge of those running the tasting room. not Only were we served some really interesting food to go with our tasting, but the insights and comments by Thibaut really got us thinking about the wines more critically and opened my eyes and palette to a wider understanding of wine. The guy who helped us was amazing! Very fun and friendly and made our group feel welcome. We got the picnic lunch to start which consisted of picking your meat and cheese for your sandwich. The food was very yummy and I loved the gummies at the end. We then went into the caves for our tasting and man are they beautiful! I would love to do a tasting in that library room. So on to the tasting - $15 and you get four tastes. Honestly I didn't like any of them. But after talking to our host and explaining we were able to taste a couple of their feature wines and those were delicious! I would recommend asking for their feature wine tasting. I love visiting Roth Winery. Their wines are affordable and their grounds are gorgeous. The wine cave is stunning and great to do a tasting in there on a hot summer day. I used to always eat lunch there duing wine tasting but they changed the sandwiches around. They used to be premade and was the BEST ham/turkey and cheese sandwiches with a delicious pasta salad and homemade cookie. Now they are a kind of make-your-own sandwich which I don't really enjoy, so I stopped doing lunch there during wine tasting trips. read more

We had a fab time at Roth, all thanks to Hannah who was our host during a cave tasting. She was so entertaining but also very knowledgable on wine and suitable pairings. The cave as a setting was amazing. She is relatively new to Roth and I hope they keep (and promote) her! I felt bad as I wanted to tip more, but there was no option to when we paid (suggestion for management...), so she got a paltry tip as we had little cash, but deserved so much more. Came here during my birthday weekend and had a private pairing/tasting set up for our group. I believe our hostess was Brittany who was nice and polite. She first had our group load up in an SUV and gave us a tour of the grounds. Never had this happen before and we all loved it. When we got back we were take inside to the barrels to a private room where our set-up was. It was beautiful. Way more than I could have expected. We came here with a large party of about 15 of us to celebrate a friend's birthday. We were staying just down the street at a huge house and decided to go wine tasting since it wasn't quite pool party weather. Ambiance: They have a small indoor tasting room and a private dining/tasting room. Their outdoor area is a lot larger and has a couple corn hole games set up, as well as giant Jenga. There's also a beautiful wine cave where they often hold events (but we learned they do not host weddings because you have to have a special license for that I guess). They also host a Halloween party, which sounds pretty cool. Wines: We all got the featured tasting and just sipped on them for a couple hours. When it came time to pay the bill, it ended up being the better deal to buy two bottles per person at $40 total and get the tasting fee waived then it was to actually buy the tasting. We ended up getting the Sauvignon Blanc and the Pinot Noir, even though the Pinot Noir ended up being the winner of the afternoon. Cool place to visit, but nothing super enticing that would draw me back right away. read more

Beautiful grounds, nice outside patio with corn hole and jenga and an a cool cave, which is not real prevalent in Sonoma County wineries. This is one of the Foley wineries and has a much more open ambience than Chalk Hill. We were only served a tiny pour of two wines for the Winter Wineland event, so felt pretty stingy that they were not a least letting you try a couple of other wines. Anything beyond that was $10 more. The sauv blanc was decent and the Evolution red blend was very good. I would give them another try for a regular tasting. read more
