Funny enough, this was literally the *only* reasonably priced hotel I could find, the week I was going to be in Lisbon a couple months ago, or at least the only one in a conveniently walkable location to the heart of the city, and once I filtered out any hotel where the average reviews described it as "dirty", so I was *sure* there was going to be something wrong with it. Which, at least in the case of the specific room we got, there was indeed exactly, definitely, one thing: as seems to be typical for hotels in the Iberian Peninsula, there was a heater, but the only access to *non*-heated air was the outside window. This likely would inherently have been rather unfortunate in the middle of the summer, but in January, was entirely fine, in terms of air-flow, as long as the window was open. When the window was closed, though, it did get rather hot. With the window closed, it was also quite quiet - with the window open, though, *something*, some machinery, I couldn't tell whether it was from this hotel or from another one nearby, emitted a fairly loud whirring noise pretty much 24/7 the whole time we were there, which occasionally, multiple times an hour throughout the day and night , turned into an even louder clank-clank-kerchunking sound for a minute or two. This was... less than optimal. It's entirely possible a different room facing a different direction wouldn't have had this problem, though. (I just wish hotels in the area would have had non-heated central air, but that doesn't appear to be a complaint about this hotel specifically, but about Spanish and Portuguese hotels in general.)
Anyway, other than that, overall, the hotel was a perfectly reasonable place to stay if you're looking to explore Lisbon - it was indeed an extremely convenient location, both for walking around the city and for catching public transit, and in a location that did not feel any sketchier than any other part of the city (there was one square a block to the south that was somewhat sketchy after dark, but it was easy enough to avoid, or just walk through quickly.) Check-in and checkout were quick and painless (though its exact location, on a pedestrian-only street, does necessitate getting picked up and dropped off a block away, on a cobblestone street, if you're using a ride-share service.) Everything about the space was clean, there was plenty of space for our stuff, the bathroom was small but not *irritatingly* small, the hot water was hot every time we tried it... the bed was a *little* hard, but quite good enough. The window, at least on our specific north-facing ground floor room, also converted to a door opening onto a rather cute semi-private outdoor alcove space with a small table and a couple chairs, which would have been a great place to eat take-out, if it hadn't happened to have been raining the couple times we ate a meal in our hotel room (the outdoor space didn't have any cover, so got very much rained on.)
Only other minor complaints I wrote down about the stay while I was there: the wifi technically *worked* the whole time, but was often extremely slow. We also only located a single set of outlets in the room, by the desk (plus another set in the bathroom - there really should have been a couple more next to the bed.)
Overall, not the best hotel I've ever stayed at, but given how much pricier its immediate competitors in the area were, if I were ever back in Lisbon and that remained true, I'd stay here again (though I might inquire about a room that faced the other direction, for noise reasons.) read more
