In Bloomington for "business", so stopped by at Rosie's with some CO-workers on a friday night. Didn't make it to the dining room, as we ate dinner in the bar area. Dinner's include soup or salad...the soup was decent. 24 oz (I think) of St. Pauli Girl was $2.50...a good deal. Had Beef Stroganoff for $14.95? A steep price for a Budget Gourmet favorite, but it was worth it. There was plenty of beef and noodles served on a xtra-large plate. Rosie's is a great bar and an even better restaurant. Excellent spot for a nice upscale lunch or evening out with that special someone. The small dining area provides a quiet setting removed from the bar area. It's a great place for special occasions, especially Valentine's Day when the candles and small room encourages the kind of intimacy that you can't find many other places. But enough about the food. You can get the food in the bar area too and Rosie's is also a great bar. Excellent, laid-back servers, good music, and a nice drink selection make this bar the perfect spot in B-N for those 30+* who are looking for a place to relax with patrons who are looking for the same. Authentic pub atmosphere. They have a wide variety of drinks and typical bar food options. I would say it's slightly more expensive than most pubs, but the food is above average and service was good. There was a large group that were so loud I literally couldn't hear my friend across the table. So maybe not the place to go for a drink and conversation. read more

Passing through on our way back to Oklahoma, on a dreary fall Saturday. We do not do fast food, so at 2:00 pm in the afternoon, many of the places we were interested in, were not open. We inquired from some locals, if there were any nearby places they could recommend, and Rosie's won the draw. Or should I say, we WON! The moment we walked in, this comfy, cozy, welcoming place drew us in. The waitresses, bar tender, and staff were all extremely personable and accommodating. The place was packed, and we had to wait a bit to get a place to be seated, but even the local patrons were extremely friendly. The menu selections were simple basic pub type selections, and the drink menu was sufficient. We made our selections and placed our order, and watched as others were served observing the food presentation, customer reactions, and impeccable and attentive service. The bartender even came to our table to assist In offering us drinks that would fit our preferences. It was obvious that she was a knowledgeable mixologist and not just slinging adult beverages. When our food arrived, we were pleasantly greeted by the aroma, and simple but tasteful presentation. The food was fresh (not cheep frozen and fried, no iceberg bagged salad mix) and well seasoned and prepared, Both our appetizer and our burgers, were very tasty, The waitress never hesitated in the least when I requested that they "hold the bun", and inquired if I could opt for an alternative side to the fries. The ambiance of this place, the way the staff flowed, and our entire experience, was just perfect! We felt so fortunate to end up here, and were truly able to shake off the "road wearies" and fill our tummies. This crew (including the adorable red headed kid, from the kitchen that was like a ray of sunshine. personally delivering food and smiles) should feel very proud of their efforts! If you are expecting high end or elegant dining, you might be happier elsewhere, but I guarantee, you will not be treated any better, anywhere else. Stopped by Rosie's Pub for dinner on a Tuesday night. There seems to not be much street parking available but luckily there is a parking garage across the street that offers free parking in the evening. My friend and I ate in the front of the restaurant in the bar area. There is also dining space available in the back of the restaurant for a more elegant experience. My friend and I both ordered wine to start which we enjoyed. For an appetizer, we had the pulled pork nachos. They were very good and quite large. I probably would not have ordered an entree if I knew how large it would be. Still overall good though. For my main dish, I had he Southwest Chicken Salad. It was also incredibly large and very good. I ended up taking most of it to go. The service was good throughout our dinner and the prices were moderate. I will come back to Rosie's and try eating in the back area next time. read more

To the waitress who self-proclaimed to be "very good at (her) job and "not trying to be combative" you were anything but your delusion of what good service looks like! Do not bother coming to this establishment with any sizable group. While they agreed to seat our group of 15 and quickly arranged tables, the waitress refused to accommodate any sort of split check situation unless each member of the group sat together. We patiently suggested what if one member of each family just places the entire order for their ticket. She begrudgingly agreed. Upon return to take our order, we suggested adding our son's baseball jersey # to the top of each ticket as a way anyone at the table to easily communicate drink adders, etc after the initial order so she'd know which bill to add them onto. She adamantly refused absolutely "not something we do here!" We were a large group, but had time on our side with full intentions to be patient, kind, and understanding of any delays in service. However, we weren't even given the opportunity bc the waitress made it so difficult to even place our order. We collectively were so turned off by her rude approach that we decided to take our business elsewhere. Shout out to Western Pub just a few minutes away that was by far better service and more than accommodating to our group going above and beyond. They laughed at our astonishment of the waitress's behavior and suggested to know who exactly she was, so definitely not a one-time occurrence! ​ read more

Rosie's is the kind of place I'd have if I could own my own place. Lots of Irish pub feel, from the bar top to all the woodwork in the place. $3.50 Absolut drinks on Friday night? Yes please. This place has pub in the name, but I'm not a kid anymore, and a few Citron Sodas sounded like a refreshing way to get a night of downstate drinking underway. I didn't order any food, but friends in my group got fried pickles and a burger. The pickles were interesting, like "bread and butter" pickled chips and the breading and seasoning were sweet. They were served with a horseradish sauce. They weren't a total win, but were not bad either. My friend Darrell thoroughly enjoyed his burger. Bartenders were very attentive and tried to make sure our drinks were never more than half-empty (or less than half-full, depending on how optimistic you feel). Great bar! The bartenders are so friendly and keep the drinks filled. We started at the bar and once our whole party joined us, we jumped to a bar table. The bartender was awesome and came and served us at the table. The daily pasta special, with seafood was phenomenal. The stuffed chicken was tremendous. The side salads and the house dressing was amazing. There was 4 of us and we split a calamari, we all had salads, and then split 2 entrees and still had food leftover. Yummy. We will be back. Rosies has two sections. The formal dining section is elegant and cozy. There is beautiful stained glass and a warm fire place, providing an intimate atmosphere. Then there is the pub, which gives a warm relaxed feel. Perfect for apps and beers with friends. The food is awesome! They have a mix of delicious pub food, formal entrees, and awesome cocktails. I suggest the burbon barbecue flat bread and the cranberry mule! they are both perfection! My favorite part though is the staff! They are funny and treat guest like family! read more

Nothing says Saturday like lunch at Rosie's! We can usually be found sitting at the bar on Saturday afternoon enjoying the special of the day (anything from a buffalo chicken sandwich (make it permanent Molly...PLEASE!!!) to a grilled cheese and tomato soup) or one of our other favorites. The smoked turkey sandwich is great and the roast beef is good too. Not to mention Rosie's famous homemade chips! If you're dining at Rosie's for lunch during the week or for dinner any night, the atmosphere in the dining room is intimate and romantic. You definitely feel special while dining in the back dining room. Rosie's also rocks when it's Saturday night and you just want to have a beer in a chill environment that's several blocks removed from the insane college crowd. read more

This is a great bar, probably one of my favorites in Bloomington, IL. As a bar, I give this place 5 stars, great atmosphere, great music, nice staff. My favorite place for a drink when I'm in town. Dinner is what brings this rating down to 3 stars. Went there for dinner and it was mediocre. I had the tenderloin special for 20.95. The pork was hard and tasted like jerky. Overly seasoned and overcooked, it seemed like the sauce was used to cover up the tough meat. The potatoes were average and nothing special. And the veggies were steeped in oil and could have stood on their own if they were just grilled and left alone. My girlfriend had the salmon which was also the special for I think 19.95. Same issue with the sides, her fish had a pineapple and red pepper chutney on it which was pretty tasty. However the fish was covered in a glaze which killed the taste of the fish, which was overcooked. It seems like the cooks at Rosie's use sauces and glazes to cover up overcooked meats. Meats can and should stand on their own. I'm paying for a cut of meat not for heaping spoonfuls of sauce. read more

I've been here a few times now and have really enjoyed the food. This alone is deserving of four stars. The service seems to be hit-or-miss, however. The first time I went, my table was basically ignored from the time we ordered to the time our food was ready. This would have been okay if the service had been fast, but we waited quite a long time to receive our food. It would have been nice if the waiter had stopped by to check-in on us once and awhile. We did try to flag him down a few times, but even then, he failed to look at us. We felt like we were deliberately being ignored. The second time I went, my friend ordered a wine, and didn't get it until twenty minutes later. The waitress, at least, apologized and gave him a more generous cup, but it still doesn't make up for the fact that she forgot. I like the food here, but the service needs some work. read more

I really want to rate this lower. I'm rating this a three because the food was good enough to overcome a clearly disorganized kitchen. It took 40 minutes from the time we ordered until we got a burger and calamari. Should never have taken that long. Returned to Rosies recently to give it another crack. This time we sat in the bar to eat. As before, the atmosphere and decor is appealing and it seemed to be a pretty popular spot. This time food-wise, we decided to stick to bar basics - burgers & fries. I got a cheeseburger with Guinness onions, husband got a hamburger with blue cheese crumble. It was all very standard stuff apart from the Guinness onions (sounded like a good idea!) which looked quite good like they were caramelised, but were in fact quite bitter. I would recommend that they stick with the concept but maybe add some sugar. Fries were fries, not outstanding, not inedible. Go to Rosies to have a drink, but eat before you leave home... read more

The reviews for where we planned on going we're not at good as this one so we walked around the block and tried Rosie's. It was really good food and a great atmosphere. I've eaten here a few times, the food is good but this review is about the lack of customer service. Two of us went in on a Saturday night and sat in the first come first serve area; we were so happy to find a table because we were starving. The waitress approached us and asked what we would like, I said I would like a couple of menus and a beer. She informed me the kitchen was closed, it was 9:05pm; we just settled for beers. The real kicker was that food streamed from the kitchen for another 30 minutes to the tables around us. Being that we grabbed the last empty table and it was only 9:05, I think proper customer service would have been to serve us or at least give us the option to just order appetizers. I went here during lunch hours. We decided to get the cheese nuggets for an appetizer. The portion size is huge but the nuggets weren't great. The cheese was very dry and not flavorful. I ordered the black and blue burger. It was amazing. I'm not a big fan of blue cheese but it works on this burger. The only problem is they put way too much salt on the fries. My experience would have been perfect but the waitress wasn't very friendly. It took her a while to come take our order. Two women came in 10 minutes after us but got their order taken first. Also, she acted like it was an inconvenience to answer a question and was very short when talking to us.Other patrons came in and she acted friendly with them. Rosie's is one of my favorite downtown Bloomington spots. They have good food and good beer (for the area). You can eat and drink in the quaint old time pub or have a fine dining experience in the back room. The pub has a dark and rich feel. The dining room is light and elegant. Hubbie and I love the spinach duck salad and get it almost every time we go. The burgers are very good. The entrees are nice, but can be pricey. They have a decent selection of beer in the pub though sometimes it is hit or miss for my picky beer tastes. Last time we ate there I had a nice Crooked Tree IPA. I've enjoy a couple of other nice imports or microbrews including Bell's. I like variety and different restaurants, but this is one of the few places in the area we frequent. If you are looking for a place with genuinely good food and beer give it a try. If you want cheap eats look elsewhere. read more

Went to Rosie's Saturday night for an early dinner. The dining room was booked that evening, but we were early enough that we were able to sit down immediately. That never happens, so it was cool. My girlfriend ordered the baked cheese ravioli. It was a huge portion and was pretty good, but I didn't eat much. I ordered the black and blue burger. My word. This is probably the best burger I've eaten in Bloomington-Normal. Angus beef, carmelized onions, blue cheese, and loads of bacon. It was excellent. Cooked well, topped appropriately, and served alongside a ton of well-seasoned french fries. The bread and salad served before the meal were both excellent and fresh. But forget that. Go there, get a black and blue burger, eat it. read more

I stopped in for lunch and really appreciated the portions on the "Pick 2" lunch menu. It seems like these meals are often such a large half sandwich that it might as well be a full sandwich. I either over-eat or end up throwing stuff away because I can't take it home with me. At Rosie's, you get an actual CUP of soup, not a huge bowl, and an actual half of a sandwich.
