This drab, somewhat corporate restaurant serves mediocre Middle Eastern/Mediterranean grub -- primarily, it seems, to nearby "Dahntahn" office workers looking for a quick fix. During my visit with a few companions, our main issue was the wait time: a collection of reheated falafel balls, premade salad, and hummus -- all of it uninspired -- took about 20 mins. to arrive. Moreover, the service was downright lazy. Not only do you have to order from an electronic, self-serve kiosk; and not only will the servers (if there are any) not bring your food to your table; but you even have to maneuver BEHIND THE SERVICE COUNTER to get a drink, should you choose to buy one, from the refrigerator! They cannot even be bothered to hand a pop to you! It all raises the question: what are the employees here being paid to do, exactly? I used to love this place, but something seems to have changed when they moved their location a few doors down. I love that there is a fast casual middle eastern spot downtown. especially one open on Saturdays and in the evening. it adds a nice variety. and there is a nice variety of menu items. From combos to entrees. one of my favorites is the platters because you choose one or two meats, choose an appetizer, sauce and you also get a small salad and nice portion of rice. Overall, food is generally pretty tasty. But the last two times I ordered, meat and rice were both dried out and I was missing something with both orders. Staff wasn't very apologetic for the errors, either. I'm still happy downtown has this place, but I wish quality and service were more consistent. read more

i ordered the chicken shawarma wrap and when i opened it up it just looked like a lazily prepared grease bomb. the pita was just sitting in grease. it wasn't press grilled, and wasnt cut in slices like they used to do it the past. no sauce, and the chicken was very dry. so basically i had an over cooked dry chicken grease bomb wrap. this is the second time in a row that i ordered this and was disappointed by the food quality. I tried to eat at least half since i already paid for it, but ended up throwing away the rest unfortunately. i will not be back and also cannot recommend this place, as I did not enjoy my food at all. This is a small 'fast food' style restaurant. There are about ten tables. The food is very good. The falafel are crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. I added hummus to my falafel pita wrap. The food here is Arabic, and it has a long tradition and a proximity to the spice trade. I honestly was so hungry and enjoying everything from my visit that I forgot to take pictures! We stumbled upon this location. We entered during lunch time with a group of 12. The location is spacious, and right away, the staff was welcoming. As we looked at the menus, a staff person handed out samples of the chicken shwarma. That sold me right away. I ordered a burrito style bowl. I did want Pita instead of tortilla, but I could not substitute it. I got it with chicken schwarma, hummus, and yogurt cucumber, topped with hot garlic. I stopped by here a couple of Saturday's ago with my wife for dinner. We had actually noticed Rosewater Grille earlier in the day while driving down Liberty Ave. It is located in the former Qdoba right near the Wood Street station. After looking up the reviews on Yelp and then at the menu, we decided to get dinner from there later in the night. So whenever the evening came we fired up a computer and placed an order. We arrived at the time given to us from the website and our food was ready and we were quickly on our way home. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with a platter and chose a kofta kebab and chicken shawarma for my meats, falafel and fries as my sides. Then since I was having trouble deciding between the sauces I went with the 220 hot sauce and the pomegranate molasses, paying 50 cents for the extra sauce. My wife also went with a platter and chose the kofta kebab and lamb tikka for her meats, the falafel and rice as her sides and then the cucumber yogurt for her sauce. Finally we also ordered a baba Ganoush to split. Once I opened my food I dug in and was very happy that we had chosen the Rosewater Grille for dinner. Both my kofta kebab and chicken schwarma with kebab having a nice heat to it. The falafel had some good spices in and the fries were just fries. It was both of the sauces which were the stars of the night for me though. The hot sauce had both a nice flavor and was spicy which is super rare to get. Then the pomegranate molasses sauce was both sweet and sour which made for a nice contrast. I used both of them until the very end on pretty much all of my meal. After I had finished with my dinner I ended up trying the baba ganoush with the accompanying pita. It had that smoky eggplant flavor to it which I love in a baba ganoush and paired nicely with the pita. My wife also really enjoyed her lamb tikka and kofta kebab which she ordered. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. It's different than most places around Pittsburgh and both my wife and I enjoyed everything that we ordered. read more
