A royal residence built by Christian IV in the mid 17th. Home to the Crown Jewels and surrounded by beautiful gardens in the heart of Copenhagen. Why wouldn't I want to tour this palace? The tickets are timed and limited, so it's best to buy tickets in advance online if your time is limited. Entrance takes you to the ground floor first and then up the spiral stairs to the next 2 floors. Following the arrows then brings you back outside and down the basement Treasury. Very impressive!

A must-see. Royal jewels are here. Get a timed ticket online to tour three floors and the basement where they keep the treasure under armed guards. We had to wait an hour when we bought tickets at the gate.

Yelp Review 2023 #228: One of Copenhagen's important and pretty castles. You'll see guards in full garb. There's a beautiful garden you absolutely must see. You can easily spend at least an hour in the garden. Unlike many castles, this one's not too overwhelming and boring. There is a lot to see inside and outside the castle but you can breeze through parts you're not particularly interested in. From a certain angle, this castle looks small. You have to pay a small fee (under $13) to get in. You'll see ornate furniture, paintings, crowns, jewelry, sculptures, and other ornamentations. If you're against paying for things, not a fan of royal objects, short on time - skip going inside. There's a garden right outside the castle and you can see the castle from there. But the fact that this castle is conveniently in the city center makes it so accessible. In other countries, you have to ride a bus or a train to get to castles.

My wife - Danish - had never been here and despite umpteen visits over the years, neither had I Put this towards the top of your list - and yes, take the advice of the other Yelpers, book in advance and get there early! There is a lot to see but there are plenty of guides to ask about things...I especially enjoyed the tapestries in the big hall, since you had to think what are they for, why, who is who and what direction are these ships going in...I have a reasonable knowledge of history but this made you rack your brains The whole exhibition is truly excellent - I think we may well visit again next year, since although you've been around, just how much did you actually miss! The gardens are nice to wander around as well A super visit

I wanted to see a castle on my trip to Copenhagen and this was the closest one. And I was really impressed with the grounds and the look of the castle prior to and after going inside. However, the inside was a big letdown for the price of admission. Most rooms were tackily decorated and made my eyes hurt - I guess I'm not big on too much opulence. And there wasn't much to it, the tour of the castle seemed to take 10 minutes. Overall, would recommend checking out the grounds, which is free, and skipping the inside.

Several guards walking around the castle. It is surrounded by a lovely park. We went there about 30 minutes before closing and didn't have to pay. We didn't go inside the castle and just walked around it and took photos. It is so grand. Very close to the hotels in the area as well.

One of the top attractions in Denmark, this former "summer" palace of the Danish Royalty features art artifacts and the Crown Jewels. Be sure to make a reservation in advance as this place gets really busy and timed tickets are required. You enter on the ground floor and proceed through a series of rooms including the King's bedroom and formal receiving rooms. Every surface is adorned with art and period artifacts. Proceed up to the 1st floor and continue your self-guided visit and be sure to poke into the small alcove to take in the mirror room, an homage to the grandness of Versailles in France. The throne room and life-sized silver lions are another high point. Proceed to the 2nd floor then back down the spiral staircase and outside and around to the right to visit the castle treasury. Here you will see the Danish crowns as well as the imperial jewels-definitely a highlight. Even with timed tickets this place is swarming with tourists so come with an attitude of patience. Probably best appreciated with a guide as the map and written information covers just the basics.

Rosenborg Castle is one many castles in Denmark. This castle was built in 1606 as a summerhouse by order of Christian IV. The Renaissance style castle is located in the center of Copenhagen. The Life Guards guard the entire Danish Treasury for over 400 years. Daily, the Royal Guards march from Rosenborg Castle (11:30am) through town to Amalienborg for the changing of the guards ceremony (12:00pm). If you are into seeing Renaissance history and the Danish Treasury, this is a must see castle when in Copenhagen! I cannot remember how much it costs for entry, but if you plan on visiting a few attractions and plan on riding the public transportation (buses, train, light rail), I recommend purchasing the Copenhagen Card to save a lot of money on admission and transportation costs!!!

By far the most extravagant of the Royal residents that we saw while there. You can see the changing of the guard and the military band practice if you are there at the right time. The treasury of Crown Jewels are really beautiful. The rest of the castle has been kept up and restored to an impressive degree. They are still working on somethings but the care they put into it is evident. The only thing that needed some more work was the glass/plastic that surrounded some of the rooms. I understand it is there to protect the things in the rooms but some of it has started to get clouding and it was difficult to see through. I would suggest going the day before in the afternoon to get tickets for the following day, this is when you will have the shortest line to get tickets and will have your choice of times for the next day. It does usually sell out

This is a compact castle and intensely popular among tourists. It took us 2 tries to get in as the museum exercised strict capacity control. I would recommend that you buy the admission at least a day in advance and show up on time. Once inside, it is full of history and beautiful artifacts. The basement housed treasuries such as crowns and royal jewels that can impress anyone. I would recommend this as a must visit attraction in Stockholm.

One of the better castles to visit within the city limits of Copenhagen, this castle has the distinguishing feature of housing the royal jewels/crowns.

Rosenborg is a beautiful castle near central Copenhagen. Tours are offered inside, but the gardens are where the magic happens. With stunning views, trails and benches tourists and locals enjoy its grounds. Picnicking in the gardens is always was a good idea!

They're shiny so I like them.

This was in our top favorite castles we visited on our trip. We tend to enjoy the more historical ones far more than the modern castles still used by the royal families like Christiansborg. There's just something about stepping into these museums that really transport you to a different time in history. The large gardens, Kings Park, and courtyards are open for the public to enjoy. You can buy a ticket to walk around inside the castle, or if you have a Copenhagen card that will get you in also. There are three floors open to visitors as well as the bunker below with the Danish Crown Jewels. The castle was built in 1606 as a summer residence for Christian IV. The architecture is Dutch Renaissance and includes many beautiful paintings and frescos, elaborately carved ceilings, and unbelievable marble work. The ornate designs have no end. Everywhere you look is some incredible handmade details just emphasizing the state of luxury and wealth of Danish royalty of the time. The throne and marble rooms as well as the many collections of prized china and glass work are not to be missed. After tramping up and down the stairs (anyone wonder how many royal family members just died of heart attacks from eating like they did and then not having elevators to help them get up to their fourth story suites??) looking at the rooms on display, bring out your ticket for admittance to the lower rooms. These rooms have impressively preserved armor, weapons, and of course the precious jewels. From crowns to scepters to rings and necklaces, every corner of that protected bunker sparkles with precious gemstones. There were so many historical details and tags to read on all of the items on display, I wish we would have had more time but I am really glad we saw it. If you're planning your trip to Copenhagen put this at the very top of your list and allow ample time if you're a real history buff..or if you just want to stare into the crown jewels for hours on end while imagining yourself wearing them.

It's is mostly a historical museum and covers the time from the earliest relics of the Danes to modern times. I recommend looking at the overall map and pick a floor and a place to start, based on what interests you the most. Then, allow yourself to get lost in terms of going from one room to another. There are visual and historical treasures throughout the museum, so it would be nearly impossible to NOT find things of interest. I loved seeing the old crowns, jewelry, and clothing, as well as Viking horns for drinking, old weapons, and the creative way things are presented. I was impressed by this museum because they have used modern museum techniques to display objects and explanations. For example, in one room, they had talking paintings to convey information, or a knight on a horse, which makes horse noises out of the blue. They also have some very creative temporary exhibits, which you should check out. When I was there, there were very interactive displays that were all about money and how wealth is distributed around the world. It was thought provoking, as well as fun. When you need a rest, there is also a cafeteria overlooking the inside of the museum. Face it, you are not going to see it all. There is too much and you won't have the time or stamina to "do it all." But that's OK. It's definitely worth it to buy a ticket ($22 USD) to spend two hours or so, as we did.
