Scruffy tourist in front of nice fountain.
Brian S.

From forts to parks Back in the 1870s a series of fortifications were decommissioned in Copenhagen and the wise city leaders decided to build three public parks where the old forts were. One of these parks become the 16 acre Orstedsparken. The park was opened in 1879 and even included some cool ponds made from the old moats of the fortifications. Loads of flowers and unusual trees as well as a whole lot of statues of famous people and various odd and bizarre objects. The park is lovely and well used and visited by local folks and tourists alike. Lots of families can be seen playing and relaxing on the grassy areas by the ponds and the several walking paths are used all year long. Unfortunately the park has received some bad publicity after some idiot radical bomber asshole tried to set off a bomb a while back and was captured in the park. Various other unfortunately incidents have taken place over the years but most of the crimes have occurred well after dark and were people involved in various nefarious activities. During the day the park is about as safe and friendly as anyplace could possible be. An absolute lovely and stunning park that is a beautiful piece of nature in the rather bland and stoic central Copenhagen. The people back in the 1870s had the right idea when they decided a slice of nature would be a good use for some obsolete military fortifications.

One of Copenhagen's most beautiful central parks. Especially in spring and autumn.

Wow what a castle. I love it, not but just packed of everything into this place. I was expecting…read morehuge big, but turned out quite simple, elegant and full of surprises. Grand, simple & elegant garden. The inside was just amazing from room after room, from one level to the next and you got to down into the jewel in the basement for the grand jewels plus others. Just simply magnificent, I didn't have time to be bored or a break from it cause everything just connect from one to another. Everything just has that cozy but yet loyal vibe. Love it, and I think this is the best & my favorite I seem so far.

The day pass is worth it for convenient access to the castle. Free lockers are a nice touch, and the guards with bayonets add a bit of royal drama. Inside, the halls are filled with art and artifacts -- the grand hall with the thrones and lion statues is a standout. Don't miss the Crown Jewels in the walk-in vault downstairs, complete with a step ladder for the perfect view. A truly regal visit, well worth the stop.
