I spent three sunny days in Copenhagen, and as a result, I find myself Yelping a long list of perfect parks, most of which I stumbled on, and any of which would be the best park where I live. ("L.A. is ugly," said my husband, on the very first day of our trip.)
So surprise, surprise, Frederiksberg Have is a huge, beautiful park. It might even be the hugest and most beautiful, though actually, it's hard to rank parks that are, as far as I can tell, all flawless. This one is, per Wikipedia, "an English-style Romantic landscape garden with winding paths, canals, lakes, small islands and magnificent trees." I didn't even get to see the whole thing, just a stunning view of a wide lawn lined with tall, bushy trees and I guess one of several canals. There were people hanging out on the lawn, and fowl hanging out in the canal. There was also a straight-up castle (this must've been the surviving wings of the Prince's House, the precursor to the Frederiksberg Palace).
I love my city, but I do wish we could borrow just one of these parks for a decade or two. I doubt Copenhagen would miss it. They should send over Frederiksberg. We'll even take it without the palace. read more
