I don't think we would have discovered it on our own. It's like one big courtyard garden that's located on the Castle Island between Christiansborg Palace and the historic Royal Danish Library. The Black Diamond (the modern extension of the library) building that you see from the harbor kind of obscures it all. It's feels like an oasis when first encountering it. That feeling multiplies when you see the koi fish swimming around the pond, and the water flowing from an impressive 26-foot-tall bronze sculpture. The architecture of the historic Library building in the background truly adds to the scenery. The fragrances coming from the flowers in this garden are amazing. I think it was the scent of the wisteria and flowering crab apple blossoms that stood out to me the most. It's all beautifully landscaped and manicured with colorful blooms. It was such a quiet and relaxing visit. I'd return again and again if I lived in this area. Don't miss this experience when passing through the grounds of Christiansborg Palace.

My first visit to this "garden" was back in 2013 or 2014 during the Copenhagen Cooking festival. At that time this park was full of small stands serving all sorts of food and drinks from smoked cheese, shrimps, ice cream and other food to beers from small home breweries and Danish snaps. Overall it is a beautiful little park with a fountain in the middle, a lot of benches all around, very quite and secluded. Great place to relax.

I was on a bit of a time schedule to see all the things I wanted to see before they all closed, so instead of getting to relax and enjoy the park like I wanted to, I ended up using it as a shortcut/walk-through option to get to the places I was going. I am so glad I did, because it is absolutely gorgeous. There is a castle to see (but not to visit...it looks like it is home to official offices and the website indicates tours two times per month), paths and ponds and canals and so much greenery! I wish I could have explored the whole park and spent the entire afternoon there. It was clean and beautiful. If nothing else, you should walk through the park to get from the Storm P. and Satire museum area to get to the Cisterne (which is an ABSOLUTE MUST SEE). The paths are clear and easy to follow. Ya gurl loves a park. And she loved this park too!

It is advertised as a romantic garden park, and that name seems very appropriate. There is lush, beautiful green everywhere, with flowering plants throughout. Several little lakes and cute bridges are found throughout. Swans, ducks, geese, pigeons, and seagulls were found in many places. There was an area for kids with many young families gathered for some special event the night we were there. At another part of the park, it looked like people were arriving for a concert of some kind later that night. There were a lot of people enjoying the park, but it never felt overwhelmingly crowded, as the park is so big. If I lived in Copenhagen, this park would be a regular for me.

From forts to…read moreparks Back in the 1870s a series of fortifications were decommissioned in Copenhagen and the wise city leaders decided to build three public parks where the old forts were. One of these parks become the 16 acre Orstedsparken. The park was opened in 1879 and even included some cool ponds made from the old moats of the fortifications. Loads of flowers and unusual trees as well as a whole lot of statues of famous people and various odd and bizarre objects. The park is lovely and well used and visited by local folks and tourists alike. Lots of families can be seen playing and relaxing on the grassy areas by the ponds and the several walking paths are used all year long. Unfortunately the park has received some bad publicity after some idiot radical bomber asshole tried to set off a bomb a while back and was captured in the park. Various other unfortunately incidents have taken place over the years but most of the crimes have occurred well after dark and were people involved in various nefarious activities. During the day the park is about as safe and friendly as anyplace could possible be. An absolute lovely and stunning park that is a beautiful piece of nature in the rather bland and stoic central Copenhagen. The people back in the 1870s had the right idea when they decided a slice of nature would be a good use for some obsolete military fortifications.

While the Frederiksberg Have is big enough to have an actual castle, Søndermarken is also impressive and enormous. I only saw one part of it, and it was the part containing The Cisterns, a reservoir/dripstone cave/subterranean art exhibition space that once held the city's drinking water. Nothing you could hide under a humble neighborhood park where I live. We came here on rented bikes, and it was nice to ride through this glorious scenery. The path was smooth and clean, and the lawn was an incredible uniform green. It seemed to extend for a mile, interrupted only by a fountain and the twin entrances to The Cisterns, which protruded like mini Louvre pyramids. We didn't spend much time in the actual park, but its beauty did not escape us. I'm glad The Cisterns enticed us here during our bike journey through Copenhagen.

If you want to have a picnic, just go across the street to Frederiksberg Have. Absolutely no grilling in either place! The toilets are close to the middle of the park and there is even a spot where you can peek in on the zoo for free. Great to have a nice big green oasis in the middle of Frederiksberg. It's open all the time but it is not well-lit at night.

And, I use that term,"Tourist Attraction," lightly…read more It is said that this place is the home to many of those who live an alternative lifestyle in Copenhagen. They claim that this area is completely beyond the rules and the laws of Copenhagen. In some ways, that is pretty easy to see as the main street is lined with people selling weed and hash, which is still illegal in Denmark. Copenhagen is not Amsterdam. Though a bit sketchy, this city within a city is very well maintained. I am sure there is some other story going on here. ...One that we will never know. This being said, what you will find here is some of the best street art and graffiti that you will witness anywhere across Copenhagen. Of course, it is clearly stated all over the place, "No Photos." But, I'm guess that is more to keep the people dealing drugs safe and off the radar than anything else. One of the funny/interesting things I find about this location is that tour buses actually pull up to it. I don't know, maybe it's just me me, but if you are truly embracing an alternative lifestyle that all seems rather intrusive. Nonetheless, this is an interesting place. Even if all you do is look at the great street art, it is worth the visit.
