On a week-long visit to Copenhagen, I went on a morning run in October 2021 to Amager Strandpark. I highly recommend it. Here's why: 1) Space: It's a beach with views of the industrial part of Copenhagen. During non-summer seasons, its less crowded and a great place to dog walk or run. 2) Design: There are two areas with restrooms and shops open during the winter. They are cement blocks, but with brutalist design. There are several restaurants nearby if you want to make a day of it! read more

Beach time in Copenhagen ... who knew?! You can't keep this California girl away from the beach and the weather gods blessed us with warm weather while on vacation, so it was a no brainer to go here. A short 10 min metro train ride away from Kobenhavn Central station (connect through Norreport and get off at Amager Strand) you'll pass through residential area to get to Amager Strand park. It's a beach park smartly planned by the Danes: grassy slopes for bicycle parking and areas for sunning if you don't wanna lie on the sand, an inlet/lagoon where you can swim if you don't want to be in the ocean, plenty of open space, clean bathrooms and cafes on site. We visited early on a weekday so the cafe was closed. You have views of the wind turbines in a distance and more likely, you'll get a bunch of kids on their field trip from school. Nevertheless, bring your own provisions, towels and get some sun while staring at the Baltic Sea. read more

I have to remind you folks to visit the Amagerstrandpark beach today when the weather is so lovely. A fantastic beach and beach promenade, lots of grass to lauding or play games if you don't want to lay in the sand. A great place for relaxation but also a recreational park with lots of activities. There's an outdoor gym or fitness area with machines, but also new for this year is the parkour equipment. The beach walk is smooth controls concrete so you will see many people on inlines or rollerblades, bicycle or skateboards. Some jog, walk, or for the lazy ones there's Segway !! (I personally don't understand the point of that) There's also the canal with canoeing, SUP paddling, long distance swimming, kite surfing or wake boarding. There's tree stumps to jump on, a dog beach and different bridges that goes out I the water at the different stations. At station 1 you also have shops and a facility for work yet baths brrrrr it is very popular. Station 2 a kiosk that sells ice cream and toilets and showers but I believe all stations have toilets. At station 3 there's sometimes a cocktail bar in the summer that plays music and there's also showers and a skateboard ramp. There a floating boat café on the way to station 5 where the rollerblading freaks hangout-me he he here you'll also find restaurants and cafés, the canoe club and lots more. Having this beach close to my apartment is truly a blessing. Summer, winter, I use this place a lot for running or for a walk. Of course it's especially delightful when the sun is out, but it's the perfect place for running also in the cold of winter. There's the dedicated walking / running path, the mini golf course, the 1-on-1 basketball hoop, the bathhouse, the plentiful benches along the path - what's not to like really? There's something for every age group. There's however something missing here and with me being me, I would definitely say it's a proper street food variety. Sure, I understand that street food carts attract chaos and trash, but Copenhagen municipality has always been swell in organizing these kind of space, so I hope there'll be more than just ice cream booth and hot dog stands in the future. Sun, sand, water, friends - and proper food. That's how I like it. Until then I would just keep hoping. read more

I don't understand why I'm the only one who's completely head over heels for Amager strandpark and therefore giving it five stars! Maybe I'm just excited to be living so close to a city center and a great beach at the same time... But, anyway, here's why I'm deciding to make this my review for a place in Copenhagen that is special and in some way makes a difference. First of all, it's a beach full of fun activities! And it's there for everyone, every day, all day. Whether you're into kite surfing (aspiring to be better at this one day myself), roller blading or walking/biking along the long, winding road along the beach, bathing in the rare, but fantastic danish sun or warm waters, or whether you're just into playing volley ball in the sand, Amager strandpark has all this, and much more. Might be that this will be the closest I will ever get to living in California and that has probably got something to do with my enthusiasm here, but Amager strandpark seems to have everything you need from a public beach. Well, maybe it could provide with more interesting cuisine than your run of the mill ice cream and hot dogs menu. But then again, there's a Lidl further north and a café further south along the beach for some more food variety. Amager strandpark isn't only providing fun times in the summer. It's quite lovely all year around! Though fall and winter can bring with them some pretty harsh winds. Summer is definitely the preferable season for Danish beach life. Take a stroll along the long, winding walkways or rent one of those silly segways, Amager strandpark is there to be conquered, all year around! read more

I know that I trash talk Trash Island sometimes, but apparently there is a side of it that isn't young men trying to act tough, crappy pizza, and cars revving their engines. I've had a picnic once at the tables close to the street, which was cozy given the company but loud thanks to said cars. Luckily this time an Amager local, Eva K., took me to the part of the beach that is much more peaceful. Though it was cloudy that day, the weather was warm and we fired up the grill. I guess the clouds scared off the normal beach-going crowd so it was blissfully quiet apart from the occasional kid charging past. There were some rocks but no broken glass or nails in the sand so it was comfortable. After eating and drinking of course I had to relieve myself and I was dreading it, knowing what I do about beach bathrooms. I was pleasantly surprised at how clean and not-smelly it was; however, the sink was clogged and there was no soap. No worries, I always carry hand santizer for such times. There is also a low faucet next to the bathrooms to wash sand off your feet. Watch where you're walking once you're back on the path, as bikes have a right to the space too. It was a great day at the beach, but one thing pissed me off; why wasn't the ice cream stand open?! It is was Saturday afternoon and it was locked up the whole time. WE WANT ICE CREAM. ): read more

I love this beach. It's more than just sand and water. There's kite- and windsurfing, SUP, beach parties, beach volley, diving....pretty much anything that involves water can be found here. It's crowded in the summertime, and there are lots of families with children, but if you walk along the beach you will eventually find places that aren't so packed. The locations near the stations are always the areas that are crowded the most. There are places that offer food and drink, even some great cocktails! But you are also welcome to just pack a cozy picnic or barbecue. Just remember to throw away your trash and to make sure that your grill is properly cooled down. In the evenings, there are events with DJs, so you can drink a glass of rosé and chill. Definitely worth visiting. read more
