It's is mostly a historical museum and covers the time from the earliest relics of the Danes to modern times. The physical museum used to be a castle, and that explains why there are so many rooms, one after another. I recommend looking at the overall map and pick a floor and a place to start, based on what interests you the most. Then, allow yourself to get lost in terms of going from one room to another. There are visual and historical treasures throughout the museum, so it would be nearly impossible to NOT find things of interest. I loved seeing the old crowns, jewelry, and clothing, as well as Viking horns for drinking, old weapons, and the creative way things are presented. I was impressed by this museum because they have used modern museum techniques to display objects and explanations. For example, in one room, they had talking paintings to convey information, or a knight on a horse, which makes horse noises out of the blue. They also have some very creative temporary exhibits, which you should check out. When I was there, there were very interactive displays that were all about money and how wealth is distributed around the world. It was thought provoking, as well as fun. When you need a rest, there is also a cafeteria overlooking the inside of the museum. Face it, you are not going to see it all. There is too much and you won't have the time or stamina to "do it all." But that's OK. It's definitely worth it to buy a ticket ($22 USD) to spend two hours or so, as we did.

There's even an academy educated employee to help the kids in their project. You can't bring your pram, but they have complimentary Stoke prams/strollers. But come early to be sure to get one. On the first Sunday in the month they have a kids project on the scene. It can be an art instillation with yarn or make your own home with cardboard boxes. My 3 years old loves it. The brunch is wicked and homemade from scratch and very nordic. Admission to the museum is free but the kids workshop costs 45 kr.

You can get pretty close to a range of stuffed animals and skulls. This is fun for children, but the old biologist also use a lot of time with the skulls. The museum is small and intimate. You can do it in 2-3 hours, if you do not linger like me. It's situated in the two top floors at the Zoological Institute of Københavns Universitet (UCPH). Take the lift or the stairs from the small gift shop at ground flor. By the lift you can start your visit in an area used to changing exhibitions. Learn at the website, what it is right now. From this room you can enter an icecave. In the cave you visit the big mammoth, and you can begin to explore the fauna of Denmark though history. After the stroll though history, and can learn a bit about nowadays fauna in Denmark. It's an old and very poor part of the exhibition. The last thing at this floor is the school service. It's the place with stuffed animals and skulls. In school holidays they have university students with all kind of exciting things here. At the top floor you can walk your way from the Artic to the Anartic, and the great evolution exhibition.

With its distinctive spiral ramp, the Round Tower has become a Danish landmark. Here are some notable facts and points of interest: 1.The Hollow Core: the shape of the tower was Denmark's geographical zero point. 2. There is an Observatory which houses a telescope built in 1929. 3. The Library Hall is used for changing exhibits, cultural events and concerts 4. The Spiral Ramp will get you to 10,000 steps easily; it is the only way to the top of the tower and spins 7 1/2 times around the Tower's hollow core. Believe me, you feel those twists as you climb. 5. The Bell Loft is situated above the Library Hall and two floors above the Trinity Church where the bells have rung for hundreds of years. 6. The Platform: once you climb the narrow stairs you are atop and can see all of Copenhagen's charms and Sweden. During the summer there is a kiosk that sells sweet treats 7. Plus, it was raining so a good way to wait it out while taking in the sights. You walk up a gentle spiral to get a nice view of the city. Along the way, there are rooms you can stop in for art exhibitions, a view of the actual church (there was service going on when we were there), random alcoves, refreshments, and even the toilet. The place is clean and it wasn't overly crowded when we went on a weekday in the afternoon. Because of the gentler slope, it's friendly for all ages. The view isn't very high, but it's still pretty good! There are little "benches" along the way - in case you do need to rest or plan the next stop of your day. A good place to stop by to get a view of the city!

Especially women- I think. This Frilandsmuseet is actually collection of houses from mostly the 19th century. They are very authentic and you can still feel and smell life at the time. I liked all the buildings, but most impressive was old wooden windmill, yellow spooky hospital and fishermens house. Everybody can find something they like. But most beneficial is to see how fortunate we are to be born in these days. I feel respect for old generations (not only Danish) and also more understand how important education and evolution in every direction connected to life. Even though I have 5 stars, I think there may be little bit more to add to this place. For example showing original old crafts (smith, fabrics making, cooking, shoe making, beer making, ....) so we could touch, smell and taste flavor as our ancestors. The ponies for kids and carriage for adults were nice, but more hands on activities would be great. I had a lot of fun with my family and hopefully we will be back sometime soon!

Lots of interesting information about the occupation, resistance, insider political debates, and Danish Jews. There's a modest-size cafe on the upper floor that's quite nice and overlooks a park. They have smørrebrød and other things. The museum shop is also lovely, with some interesting items that I found unique. The bathrooms are clean and nice and spacious.

Once you get here, you walk in a maze covered floor to ceiling with information and artifacts. Through it all, you take approximately an hour, give or take 15 minutes. There was a person who was discussing a topic at a point in the exhibit, but it was in Danish. Most of the information is in both English and Danish, but many of the artifacts do not have translations.

This review is based on my experience as someone unable to read Danish. This (free) museum is 70%…read morecrime, 30% police history and covers the civil unrest in Copenhagen in 2006 but is mostly artifacts from criminal cases. The guy at the front desk was really friendly and lent me the English language guide but I couldn't figure out which room corresponded to which page in the guide and the exhibits are exclusively in Danish. If you can't read Danish, I'd only recommend it if you are a big mystery reader or are interested in the Denmark-specific police history as there is some stuff about the transition from nightwatchmen and the role of lighting in the city. But if you are in the neighborhood, maybe you'd want to check it out; it's free. There are some bloody photos but I don't think they would be too disturbing for kids.
