The Spiral Ramp will get you to 10,000 steps easily; it is the only way to the top of the tower and spins 7 1/2 times around the Tower's hollow core. Believe me, you feel those twists as you climb. 5. The Bell Loft is situated above the Library Hall and two floors above the Trinity Church where the bells have rung for hundreds of years. 6. In the interior of the castle, visitors may see Christian IV's bedchamber and other rooms, the Treasury with the Danish crown jewels, etcetera. I unfortunately did not have tickets to tour the inside of the castle, but based on online photos, I really wish that I had bought tickets so I could see the historic, fancy rooms. I did, however, spend much time walking around the exterior of the castle. The architecture looked gorgeous. Then I walked through the garden, for which I wrote a separate Yelp review, and then I saw the moat with fish and the drawbridge leading to the castle. I recommend that tourists visit this castle.

The Designmuseum was a very stylish and cool space. It isn't the largest in terms square footage…read morebut was a nice way to explore for an hour different thoughts on design. When you come to the Designmuseum, you'll make your way over to the right building rather than go straight in to buy your ticket. Once you purchase your ticket (a cute cafe is also located here), you'll make your way to the main building. There were a lot of restrooms as well as a coat room to put away your bag and jackets. Once you come into the main portion of the museum, there is a center with a lot of seating and a unique fan art piece when we went. To go to the actual exhibits, we had to go back towards the entrance and towards the right side. You have to interestingly go first through the store and then towards the automatic gates where you will scan your ticket. Once inside, the path in the museum is pretty linear. Half of the building was dedicated to Observations of Human when we went with large textiles and representations of the exhibits that was shown in the past. These were sometimes interactive and fun to look at with easy to read text that included English. The other half of the museum was based on 'wonder' that went into Danish design in both how collections are kept/organized to furniture and styles through the ages. I personally liked this section quite a lot as it included interactive tablets and exhibits that you could touch and see. And had some really gnarly elements such as the chair hallway that included nearly a hundred or so chairs from the past years in a unique tube like configuration. My favorite part of the exhibit interestingly enough was a really cool projection that was used to go on top of and around a chest in a corner. Really cool usage of projection! At the end, there was another minor and fun exhibit that also included a library as well as another small cafe that seemed to have more of a queue. I think if you set your expectations and come in to enjoy an hour or so of really interesting designs, it's worth the trip!

We went to Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek a few weeks ago during our three-day trip to Copenhagen, largely…read morebecause it was free and directly across the street from our hotel. I'm glad this museum was so easy to visit, because it was tremendously lovely and we might not have bothered if it were at all out of our way. Tuesdays are free days at Ny Carlsberg, so we dropped in at 11:30 and went through in about an hour and a half. We could've stayed longer--and might have, if we were paying--but this was enough time for us to loop through and see everything. The museum is built on the personal collection of Carl Jacobsen, whose father founded the Carlsberg Breweries. (Jacobsen died over a century ago, so I imagine the collection has changed somewhat since then.) I guess the dude had a lot of antiquities and sculptures, because that's what makes up the majority of the collection. There were whole rooms full of ancient naked people, sculpted from bronze and marble. (One thing I learned--almost all of the men lose their dicks over the years, even if they hold onto everything else.) There were several incredible Rodins, as well as a special exhibit of Degas figures, and a ton of Greek and Roman sculpture. On the lowest level, in what felt like a cool, dark crypt, were several Egyptian mummies, along with their various mummy things, like their tomb bits and creepy-ass painted masks. The museum had some impressive paintings, too--I enjoyed the robust collection of work from the Danish Golden Age. I also just loved the building, a beautiful place, with the wings of the museum built around a gorgeous garden, rich with greenery and sculpture. If we'd had more time, it would have been nice to sit there a while and enjoy lunch in the café. I'd highly recommend a visit to Ny Carlsberg, especially if you happen to be in Copenhagen on a Tuesday. It's a remarkable museum with a splendid collection and lovely grounds. Well worth a couple hours of your time.

And shout out to the true Danish snack and beverage clerk who charged me for three espresso drinks but the. I wandered off with just one, grumbling silently to myself about an $18 coffee. She then left the counter moments later and walked 50 yards over to seated me and asked me in that blessed Danish tongue whether I wanted the other two coffees she made or did I just want the credit! thank God, maybe for the first time since my arrival two days ago, Dane responded to my Danish speaking Danish! Ah most look at me and figure I look like an American so they ignore me when I speak Danish and they just speak English. Kind and sweetly concerned, she made my day's wage slavery working on a Sunday all that much more bearable! What a modern marvel the structure is too!!

Our guide were a fountain of knowledge, and he were able tell the history in a very empathetic way. We didn't have time to see all the exhibitions, so I definitely have to go back to this museum on my own. I'm also planning to make a excursion with my colleagues from work. I was cranky about it, but just started heading back towards the city center on foot to see what the world might have in store for me. And what it had in store for me was all of the National Museums! Since I was planning on a museum any way, wanted to snag some WiFi, and it was included with my Copenhagen Card that expired that evening...I mean, why not check it out!? There was a great variety of artistic styles and time periods represented here. So, no matter what kind of art you like, you will find something that you enjoy here. I personally enjoy modern and contemporary art, and since I had been on the hunt for that earlier, that is where I focused my attention. They have a very nice contemporary collection. Visually appealing, colorful, and things I haven't seen before! I really enjoyed everything I got to see, both in the contemporary areas and the rest of the museum. And after wrapping up my art-ing, I got a bite to eat and a very good cup of coffee in the museum restaurant. I had a much nicer time here than I expected to, and should have had this on my must-see list earlier in my visit. Don't make my same mistake!

They claim that this area is completely beyond the rules and the laws of Copenhagen. In some ways, that is pretty easy to see as the main street is lined with people selling weed and hash, which is still illegal in Denmark. Copenhagen is not Amsterdam. Though a bit sketchy, this city within a city is very well maintained. I am sure there is some other story going on here. ...One that we will never know. This being said, what you will find here is some of the best street art and graffiti that you will witness anywhere across Copenhagen. Of course, it is clearly stated all over the place, "No Photos." But, I'm guess that is more to keep the people dealing drugs safe and off the radar than anything else. One of the funny/interesting things I find about this location is that tour buses actually pull up to it. I don't know, maybe it's just me me, but if you are truly embracing an alternative lifestyle that all seems rather intrusive. Nonetheless, this is an interesting place. Even if all you do is look at the great street art, it is worth the visit.
