A little overwhelming for me in terms of the crowd type. Compared to other museums, this one seemed to attract a lot more of the younger crowds (damn teenagers!) and the space certainly seemed catered towards the modern-eye. A lot of the exhibits seemed like selfie-taking was in mind, and a lot of selfies were being had. There were many parts of the exhibition that I really liked, and some that I could easiluy gloss over. I suppose that's no different than a visit to any museum. The short documentary film on the craftsmanship of those old chairs was so amazing. Makes you really appreciate the work and craft that gets put into some old furniture that we all take for granted. Now we just have IKEA.

This museum has been on my radar since my last trip to Copenhagen, and I decided to stop by between other commitments this time. The museum is located in a beautiful classic building, which contrasts pleasantly with the exhibition itself. Anyone who loves Nordic design would find something to drool over here - whether it is the classic lighting (think Louis Poulsen) or the most iconic items from key Danish design eras. Parts of the exhibit were being changed, so the tour was under an hour... Now, this visit coincided with the "3 days of design" event that was going on all over the city, with pop-up stores and make-shift exhibitions in pretty much every other design store. So I, frankly, spent more time ogling those than in this museum. Still worth a quick stop if you love Danish design.

If you love Scandinavian design or mid century modern design, this a must see in Copenhagen. I really enjoyed the chair gallery and video exhibits. They had a good presentation of contemporary design as well as the history of design, from the iconic pieces to the foundation of modern design. Mainly everyday household items but the layout and displays were brilliant. I enjoyed seeing how design has developed throughout the years and was great to see the functionality in everyday pieces. I would suggest going as there is plenty to see especially looking at the design movements. Great little gift shop.

My friend and I loved the Design Museum. We must have spent two hours there, excluding the lunch break. While the chairs are the heart of the museum -- and impressive -- we also like the exhibit of contemporary household items (including Legos, of course) the bicycles, and the extensive costume exhibit. The cafeteria had pretty standard -- and good -- Danish lunch items and eating in the courtyard was a treat. And we found great gifts in the museum shop. Note: the entry has been moved to the side street on the left of the building while the front courtyard on Bredgade is being rehabbed.

This place is...strange. And yet, I did enjoy my experience here. It was included in the Copenhagen card, so it's worth a try if you have it. Pretty much everyone who goes through here feels like they just went into an Ikea. The extensive chair collection is what really does it. They have a lot of random stuff, some of which is interesting and some of which is just...yeah.

You said you wanted a room full of chairs and chairs only? As you wish.

The Danes have a knack for designing items for functionality, amusement and/or aesthetics. That's all on display at the Designmuseum. The first exhibit is all about everyday objects, and is the right handshake to set the tone. Much of the museum is about things people actually engage with (as opposed to just looking at). So you'll find fashion, chairs, vases, tapestries, poster art, etc., through various historical lenses & influences. The level of creativity & originality on display here is off the charts. Highly recommended. I'd budget 3 hours to do it right.

A lovely place to go if you love Scandinavian design in general or Danish design in particular. Here you get to see the design evolving throughout the years, and also the history and the influence behind it. Totally worth seeing, even if you have just a couple of decorative items at home with Danish design labels on them. However, this museum lacks repair, the floors are cracked, the place looks shady in general and understaffed, it would be good with a complete overhaul, also with the museum path, on where should one start? The staff said that we could start either way, but it's really better to start from the old times/influencer/special exhibition first. All in all, still a decent visit.

We had a great time at this museum last night. On Wednesdays it's open until 9PM, and a free English-language tour is offered from 6:30 to 7PM. The tour was great, gave us some interesting historical info about the building itself (was originally a hospital, built in the 1700s) as well as some of the exhibits. We only wished it had have been longer, the tour guide seemed passionate and very knowledagble. After the tour we walked around the museum by ourselves. Everything is written in both English and Danish and there's a good level of information provided with all the exhibits. Our favourite areas were the chairs and the modern danish design. We probably spent another hour or so on our own. The museum seemed to be pretty quiet, probably about 20 people on the tour and everyone spread over the museum when it was done. If you're interested at all in design this museum is definitely worth a visit on a trip to Copenhagen!

Stunning. Probably my favorite Museum in CPH. It's a museum like no other, because let's face it design is huge in this country and do you ever get showered with design and innovation to the nth degree!! The displays are flush with thought intense simplicity, the first thing you think about is, there are so many chairs, so many items. We easily forget that we see these designs everyday. Well, this is where it began or flourished. Super Cool, Super Innovative back then. I was so into this museum I stayed almost half a day instead of the original 2 hours I had planned and I'm not a design professional; nor am I an artist. It is a mind-bending museum if you have an appreciation for Art and invention. Sure there are lots of chairs but there are lots and lots of other invention and a significant display of Danish design history here as well. There's also a section for costume design (interesting but not my thing). One less star. This museum should be re-organized and arranged in a logical fashion and some of its pieces protected in temperature controlled spaces. I think the plethora of chairs (albeit beautiful) in the early part of the display can be re-arranged. The museum needs to expand to a much larger space and the captions redone so that they are easier to read. Some captions were newspaper print and you'd have to kneel/squint if you're standing up while looking down. Yep it's that packed, there are displays at floor-level. Visits: 1 Tip: The cafe has very good real food and coffee and a beautiful courtyard. Use your Copenhagen Card to get into this and any of the many museums all over the city. It's a great deal for free museums, metro, transportation including tours for a 24, 48, 36, 72 hours depending on the time block you purchase.

It's is mostly a historical museum and covers the time from the earliest relics of the Danes to modern times. The physical museum used to be a castle, and that explains why there are so many rooms, one after another. I recommend looking at the overall map and pick a floor and a place to start, based on what interests you the most. Then, allow yourself to get lost in terms of going from one room to another. There are visual and historical treasures throughout the museum, so it would be nearly impossible to NOT find things of interest. I loved seeing the old crowns, jewelry, and clothing, as well as Viking horns for drinking, old weapons, and the creative way things are presented. I was impressed by this museum because they have used modern museum techniques to display objects and explanations. For example, in one room, they had talking paintings to convey information, or a knight on a horse, which makes horse noises out of the blue. They also have some very creative temporary exhibits, which you should check out. When I was there, there were very interactive displays that were all about money and how wealth is distributed around the world. It was thought provoking, as well as fun. When you need a rest, there is also a cafeteria overlooking the inside of the museum. Face it, you are not going to see it all. There is too much and you won't have the time or stamina to "do it all." But that's OK. It's definitely worth it to buy a ticket ($22 USD) to spend two hours or so, as we did.
