Part of our walking tour through Malmo landed us in the heart of Kungsparken. It's a vast "garden" of sorts that has a windmill, garden, castle, etc. We probably walked around for about an hour and I do admit that we did not explore every single crevice, but what we did explore was terrific. We actually started through a cemetery in the outskirts before getting to the actual Kungsparken grounds. They have walking and running trails and it is open to the public. My favorite part of the grounds was the cool looking windmill. They also have greenhouses throughout -- I want to say that they also store bees there that pollinate their flowers, but I don't remember the exact details on that. In any event, if you're in Malmo then the Kungsparken is definitely worthy of your time.

This is sadly no longer on the Copenhagen Card so we shelled out money for this. If you buy it…read moreonline, it's cheaper than buying in person so remember to plan ahead and buy online! It's located right along the coast and the design of the building fit in perfectly. There were a lot of families there (on an overcast Wednesday in July) so it, quite possibly, was one of the more crowded destinations on the itinerary. The place was separated into three sections: Nordic fish, Rainforest, and the Ocean (I'm pretty sure it's ocean...). They also have a large eat-in area and a little cafe stand type place for coffee, other beverages, and small bites. There are also lockers and a rather nice outdoor area (the sea otters are there!) with Hansen Ice Cream and supposed food trucks. We went out and got ice cream. My youngest has food allergies and they were super nice and looked up the ingredients lists! Thankfully, he could have the flavor he wanted. A note for vegetarians: they have a partnership with sustainable fishing company, which I think is awesome! But there are no vegetarian options for kids here, entree wise. My favorite section was the Rainforest. They have free roaming animals including poison dart frogs and even a sloth! Funny enough, I didn't find either of those but I did see many birds, butterflies, a tortoise, and bats. Not to mention the fish in the tanks there that includes piranhas. I could probably spend a lot of time there just trying to find all the animals they have. My friend found a poison dart frog so they are there (they are tiny so they have ample places to hide). Overall, both the adults and kids enjoyed it! I paid 219 DKK for myself and 118 DKK for each of my kids, so around $35 for adults and $19 per kid. They have a gift shop with the most amazing plushies! The most expensive one there was a few hundred USD that was just over the size of a carry on luggage. Overall, rather pricey but I managed to get a small (but the softest) sea turtle as a gift and a magnet for my fridge. Despite needing to pay, I felt like it was a good experience! Don't forget to say hi to the humongous sting ray in the ocean tank! They all have digital signs that switch between English and Danish and you can click on each animal to learn about them more in depth. I loved that! (If I didn't have kids with me, I would have stayed much longer.)

I visited 3 times during my stay in Lund just to make sure I saw all there was to see. I'm really glad I took so much time out to do so, especially given the greenhouse (Växthus) is open limited hours during the week. The Lund Botanical Gardens are FREE to the public too, which really can't be beat. A nearly straight shot east from the Cathedral, it's not to be missed if you're visiting the medieval city of Lund. My dear friend, who graciously offered me room and board during my stay in Sweden, attended Lund University, and shared with me that the greenhouse located at the heart of the gardens is home to tiny ground-dwelling king quail (they reminded me of itty bitty kiwis, see my pictures!), the smallest landfowl in the world, that help with pest control. If I hadn't known about this, I wouldn't have waited patiently and quietly in a serene corner of the Växthus for the little cuties to emerge and begin their important work in the greenhouses. There is so much to see inside the greenhouses, beyond adorable useful birdies! I saw plant fossils! And exotic Amazon lily pads! Australian trees! So many beautiful plants I may never ever see again in my lifetime! So, I definitely recommend a visit to the greenhouses, but also a determined stroll among the grounds. Take your time! One visitor I noticed had brought her cat with her in a discrete basket. (Again, proof is in my photos!) That's my kind of woman. I was especially pleased to see so many tulips in bloom. I know, so basic. Hours upon hours can be spent here, and spend them I did. There is a small cafe and restrooms located in the same area as the greenhouses, in case you are in need. Be aware that the gardens are a solid amount of walking for your day, but for me the time passed without much notice at all. With all the incredible sights to see in Lund, this was one of the best parts of my trip! It's not to be passed up if you're in the area. And after all, in comparison to my visit to Copenhagen's botanical gardens on the same trip, you can't beat free!

The Botanical Garden is *not* a zoo--not sure why it's classified as such. It's a botanical…read moregarden, as its name implies. The outdoor gardens are okay. The biggest draw here is the glasshouse area and the nearby pond. The pond is filled with flowering lilies, and the ducks here are friendly and plentiful. The glasshouse area is surprisingly extensive, and a few rooms have what appear to be tiny quails (I even saw babies!) walking around freely and cooing/squeaking in a delightful way. Walking through the glasshouse gave me a sense of childhood wonder in places. And it's all free! Not free, but also lovely, is the cafe. I got a salad here (included free, fresh bread) that was tasty and very affordable. I ate outside by the pond, at the tables/benches. I'd plan an hour, if not more, for the glasshouse and pond.
