I went with the Whistler and a regular coffee. Service-wise the lady over the counter was great. Traffic ebbed and flowed, sometimes receiving a whole group of teenagers and then other times a few office workers trying to get a quick bite. A few remote workers found the large tables near the back and were working quietly on their laptops. All along the walls were colorful personifications of cartoon bagels. Coffee tasted fine black, and the hashbrown was as expected. The Whistler was ok, the Montral smoked meat tasted good, but there wasn't enough of it. As a whole, the sandwich didn't feel substantial enough even with the variety of egg, bell peppers, and veggies. The bagel itself, their namesake Rosemary Rocksalt, tasted great though. Love all the bagels I had here! A bit more expensive than your bagel place but the taste and presentation are always appreciated! We love coming here for a quick snack because there is usually no wait and plenty of space to enjoy your food. I recommend the salmon bagel with cream cheese. Think there was a fancy name for it. I have been here a few times when I am in the area. I am still on the fence if I like the bagel here. I find it gummy sometimes and it sticks to my teeth. I have tried the bagel melt and it is decent. I will also say it is not very filling. Usually I find bagel very filling due to the density. The bagel here is not very heavy and is of the softer, chewy version. The jalapeño cheddar cream cheese sounds better than the taste. I did not really like it on my bagel. So glad I did not buy a tub. The bagel also hardens the next day. I think it will be better to slice it in half first before storing it. I came here at 830 on a Sunday morning. There was only one other family there. The interior is well lit, clean and spacious. I was also greeted by rows of bagels. The washroom was also clean and you get your own private washroom. As reviewers have mentioned below, the price is high for a bagel sandwich. I chose the Hastings sunrise and picked the namesake bagel. Also ordered a cup of Java. They use JJ Beans. The Hastings sunrise came with Montreal smoked meat (only reason why I picked this) and egg. There were also other sandwich options with the smoked meat but cost at least $11.50. I personally have a thing against spending that much for just a sandwich, especially when it doesn't come with anything else. When my food came, I was extremely surprised at how tiny the portion was. It probably was equivalent to a kids meal, suitable for ages 5-8. It came with very minimal smoked meat and egg, and that's basically what made up the $8.50. The bagel itself was ok, like nothing about it earned the wow factor. It also kept sticking to the roof of my mouth. I couldn't get it off with my tongue. I literally had to pry it off with my finger while my other hand covered this unpleasant sight of me. With this joint famous for its bagels, I found the bagel to be a disappointment. Even the sandwich itself was, in general, mediocre. Seriously, McDonald's or Tim Hortons' bagel sandwiches tasted much better. At the very least, my stomach was full from the fast food versions. I've always heard about Rosemary Rocksalt and today we decided to try out a Montreal-style bagel but really the true pull into this bagel café was for their Everyday 50 cents coffee! We came 30 minutes before closing and the staff was sweet to make a fresh pot of coffee, but it was during our 5 minute wait that we decided we should really try these beautifully presented bagels. Like other reviews it looked like the sandwiches were on the pricey side, and while I was tempted to finally sink my teeth into a Montreal Smoked Meat Bagel, $12.75 for a small version was not too appealing. We opted to get 1/2 a dozen bagels for $8.49. We of course chose the Rosemary Rocksalt (their signature bagel), Sesame, Everything and Cinnamon Bagel. My fiancé innocently asked for some butter to put on one of bought bagels while we waited for the coffee to finish, and the staff member working there was super sweet and actually toasted up an extra bagel, buttered it then wrapped it up nicely for us! She was so sweet and eventually handed our piping hot coffee too. We took a bite out of our warm bagel and it was definitely different than the regular bagels. Made a little thinner and irregular but the dough was definitely chewier, denser and a little sweeter. Maybe a little too dense and chewy because it kind of got stuck in my teeth but I can see why this would be a great "bun" for a sandwich. The Rosemary was fragrant and the Rocksalt was a lovely salty crunch that added a perfect salty, sweet bite. If we had some cream cheese, this would have hit the spot! I am all for chew, so this Montreal Bagel texture is fabulous! Came in for a 50 cent coffee (tasted pretty great made fresh btw) and ended up with 1/2 dozen bagels and a free buttered bagel - gotta love it! Plenty of free parking in this plaza and lots of seating here as well. I'm a big fan of Montreal style bagels. It's the one thing I always do when I go to Montreal: make a trip to fairmont bagels. So when I drove to this mall and saw this place, I decided to give it a try (since I haven't been to Montreal recently). Bought 6 of the everything bagels, price is a little higher at $8.99. After eating it, I have to say it's not the same. Although the crust is pretty close to the real deal, the chewy texture is off. I agree with another reviewer about it being stuck in the mouth. Once you chew on it, it became almost like glue paste feel in your mouth, and it gets worse if it stays in the mouth longer. Must be the type of flour they use? They are hella pricey for what is at the end of the day, a bagel sandwich shop. Their bagel sandwiches range from $7.75 to $16.50 (!!!). I definitely docked a full star because of the price. I've tried Strathcona which was just ok. I feel like they give you less smoked meat because it has turkey deli in it too. I've also tried the Hastings Sunrise (they serve breakfast all day), which was also just ok. The smoked meat was nice but the egg definitely wasn't a fresh cracked... maybe microwaved powdered egg (similar to the ones that Tim Hortons serves). The attached photo is of the Hastings Sunrise. You can see how small and little stuffing there is. When I got the Hastings Sunrise, the cashier asked if I wanted to get a soup too because I would get the drink for free. I got the tomato soup and a snapple with my sandwich, which came to $15. The tomato soup was chunky with actual tomatoes and very spicy with what tasted like black pepper. It was actually quite nice. I've had both the Rosemary Rocksalt and the Everything bagels. Their bagels are very chewy, in true Montreal style. Personally I like the Rosemary Rocksalt a lot more. The rosemary is very fragrant. I can see why it sells out faster. I might just get the Rosemary Rocksalt bagels plain next time. The space is very modern and spacious. Lots of seating. Nice clean bathrooms. Today, (Aug. 24, 2021, at around 1:00 PM) I went to Rosemary Rocksalt in Ironwood Mall, Richmond, and bought 1.1/2 dz. of bagels and paid $ 23.48. As we are from Montreal, we were anxious to share it with the family. I got the cream cheese and logs with fresh tomatoes. What a disappointing experience! When we start splitting the bagels to toast them, all of them had the raw sticky uncooked dough in the middle. We ended up eating the cream cheese and logs on a rye bread toast. We tried this place for the first time. I've seen their ads and was disappointed that the sandwiches were definitely not as good as they looked in the ads. We ordered Hastings Sunrise on Everything bagel and Smoked Meat Melt on Rosemary Rocksalt bagel. The flavor of the bagels overpowered the taste of the meat. The sandwiches were very small. The bagels were not filling at all. The taste was not bad but definitely not worth the price! Really pricey. If I want bagels, I would go to Tim Hortons or Starbucks. I keep telling clients that I take here making up excuses that the reason why they just paid a fortune for such a measly topped bagel was because it's real Canadian food! The ingredients are high quality and so on. But honestly that's just Bull Cookies from Alberta's ranches (bull cookies = cow manure). You don't get what you pay for. They need to fix that. Sure there are people willing to pay but how often? When will they realize they're not getting enough? Sure the bagels are great, but for lunch? Came here for the first time two days ago and was looking forward to it the whole day before. Love bagels, they were my staple food in my university days. However I have to say, I was thoroughly disappointed in the quality and taste of the food. I'm giving it two stars, one, because of the beautiful lay out of the cafe and the second one because of the friendly service. The bagels were appalling. I don't know if it's just me and I don't know much about Montreal style bagels and if they like it rock hard over there, but I prefer it soft, with generous filling. The bagels were so hard, it was impossible to bite through for my elderly grandma. We got the steveston and there were a measly 2 pieces of smoked salmon in there. The Hastings sunrise and Kits bagels we got were lacking in filling, and for such a pricey amount for bagels.. definitely a rip off. More importantly, my aunt was returning back to her hometown the same day at night time, so I wanted for her to try a yummy Canadian style bagel breakfast. Disappointment. Tim Hortons will make you much happier. Even my old university coffee shop bagel was light and moist. I remember thinking that morning, "I wish I could've gotten McDonald's instead." Rosemary Rocksalt bagels are gummy. It's sad that other people's reviews say they would go back to Tim Hortons bagels after trying Rosemary Rocksalt bagels. They have never experienced a real bagel and now they think real bagels suck! The first time I tried Rosemary Rocksalt bagels on Lonsdale I was served an extremely stale bagel. It was rock hard. The young server tried to explain that this was the difference between a real bagel and a super market bagel. She was only conveying what she had been trained to say to the uninitiated. I however, know the difference between a stale bagel and a freshly baked one. I so miss that little bagel shop that was on 13th I tried Rosemary Rocksalt one more time 2 years after my first experience. A little too tough of a crust and grossly gummy inside. Stuck to my teeth. A group of five of us came and ordered a meal together on one check. The sides were mixed up and weren't with the correct menu items. When we inquired about missing hash browns we were given attitude. The lady working the register was very kind and pleasant but her leaders would barely look at us and could not hold a conversation or politely explain anything. Wrong order!!! I didn't find out until I got home that they had given me the wrong order. I ordered the Steveston - which had salmon, capers, cream cheese and onions, for $12.95. What I got was today's special - smoked meat, turkey, cheese, tomato and lettuce, for $7.95. I live 25 minutes away. so I didn't feel up to a 50 minute round trip for 4 dollars. They didn't confirm my order number, or order when I picked up my bagel, and I wasn't about to take it apart to check - I shouldn't have to!!! read more

When I rate a place the minimum I give for a place I would return is 3 stars. Therefore at 2,stars I would not return to this place. It's a shame as there are few good bagel places any more. The bagels are which means some are much larger than others some have huge centre holes while others do not and this is within the same flavour so right off you are stressed wondering if you are going to get a good one or a rip-off one. I got ripped off. I had an everything bagel sandwich with veggies ( lettuce cuke tomato onion) and smoked salmon cream cheese. The bagel was about 4" in diameter and the hole was about 3"!!! Not much bagel. This rang in at over $9.50!! The veggies are super cheap. Considering it's only $4.50 or so for a bagel and cream cheese I realized I just paid $5 for a couple of tablespoons of veggies. Now I'm mad!!! And there was maybe a tablespoon of cream cheese that tasted nothing liked smoked salmon. Super mad!! I wanted Lox and creAm cheese on a bagel but did not have a loan officer from the bank with me. I also wanted soup but the flavours did not appeal not me. Nor did the $5.50 price tag- a soup and sandwich could approach $15-20 here. I kept hearing all the ads on the radio about this place so I decided to try it out - we happened to be in the area on our way back to Langley, BC. The store was very nice and clean. The person that served me didn't great me when I came in - it wasn't busy. There were a couple of people ahead of me dealing with staff about the quality of the beagles - that kinda put me off but I decided to give it a shot anyways. One person said their beagle was burnt and another said is was dried out. Price-wise - this place is a rip-off. Almost $9 for 6 beagles! And a small container of flavoured cream cheese almost $6! The beagles were on the hard side and I bought them on a Sunday - by Tuesday they were like hockey pucks. Waste of money! I'll stick to getting my beagles from the grocery store. read more

I unfortunately I agree with the other post. My coworkers and I went and none of us were impressed. The bagels are smaller than the average bagel. I eat small portions but I doubt the average person would find their size satisfactory. They are also terribly OVER PRICED! Up to $12 per bagel if you get the ones with the montreal style meat. $4.50 for a bagel with cream cheese and $2.50 for a bagel with butter? Wow. We won't be coming back..Doubt this location will survive with the surrounding business offering food priced a little more reasonable. Bagels aren't even healthy with them being 400 calories without all the filling.. So my question is what is the incentive for "healthier" choices and what is stopping a customer from going to the Tim Horton's located in the same area - which is a 3rd of the price? Was very excited for this place to open in Richmond and close to home. First time I tried this I thought it was good but I still preferred the ones from Fairmount in Montreal. Fortunately, I have a friend that brings bags and bags back as he flies there frequently. I do like their signature Rosemary rocksalt flavor. I returned this weekend to get some more, and they were out of this flavor. They were in the process of making more so I paid, and waited. I sat near the glass to observe how they were made and was shocked! The baker used a long wooden plank to retrieve/bake the bagels. But these wooden planks are stored standing up near the oven and touching the floor! I saw him take the plank, and quite often his gloved hand would touch the end of the plank that was on the floor and then using the same gloved hand form the dough to make the bagel! EWWWW! They need to find a solution to store the wood planks so they're not touching the floor. I consider this very unsanitary! read more
