My husband is an architect and when he's appreciative of the design, we know we've found a new favorite. The bathrooms have every amenity (including heated floors) and the mod fixtures in the bedrooms (a tv tray built into a coffee tablet that's so 60s/70s) are so fun. The bathroom has very nice toiletries with a rain spout shower, Turkish cotton towels and a heated floor. There were more than eight floor to ceiling shaded windows to view the waterfall and pretty vegetation. From 3pm to 7pm snacks and La Colombe coffee beverages of all types are available with chocolates, cookies, dried fruits or nuts and candies. Coffee and biscotti are available from 7:30am till 10am in the morning. The staff is composed of four lovely women whose names all begin with the letter A. There are also s'more kits supplied to be made in multiple fire-pits at your leisure by the creek. Recommendations from dining, shopping, hikes or some great live music are given by this great staff. If you are looking for a relaxing stay at extremely reasonable rates that are less than two hours from New York City The Woodstock Way Hotel is the perfect choice.

We arrived on Friday night and kicked things off with a barbecue on the terrace. Everything you need for an easy and fun cook up is on hand. Most of the group were new to BOTP and the Catskills and were in awe of both. The accommodations are more fabulous than they look in the already great photography on the website, and so comfortable. Everyone was happy and we spread out across the barn, airstream and cabin. I slept in the solarium with hubby. Now he wants us to upgrade to king size bed at home. Propped up on all the fluffy pillows and bolsters for my morning read surrounded by the verdant scenery was a balm for this New Yorker's psyche. Hubby also took an instant liking to one of the armchairs. This one room is so versatile. One of the writers in our group used the desk during the day. When you close the doors it is very very quiet. The couples in kitchen and master bedrooms respectively slept soundly, while the mezzanine crew were equally happy and at ease. The cabin peeps, a father and son, were thrilled to have their own separate digs and absolutely loved it. Two gal pals had the airstream and they too rested well . In short we were all in our happy place and were all able to really relax. Everything through out the property sings inspired human. As a group we felt so blessed and connected, free and flowing. When our Saturday morning attempt to leave and go swimming was thwarted by a deluge we just danced and practiced yoga in the rain. This was just happy sober. When the skies did clear in the afternoon some of us went swimming at a nearby lake, some went for a scenic drive and checked out a whiskey distillery and some just lounged. Barn on the Pond is amazing, a luxury immersion in nature, the service from the Team incredible, we will be back next year for another birthday and to host a meditation retreat.

This review is for Griffin house restaurant and the cottages at Griffin house…read more Easy entry to the cottage after 3pm, a code emailed to us and information about the room inside. After a few minutes we noticed a rotten smell, the cleaning person hadn't emptied the garbage after the last guests left. No problem, everyone makes mistakes. I called and spoke to Jessica who said dinner was on her and sorry for the inconvenience, (compensation not my idea). She said let her partner Jenny was at the restaurant and it would be no problem to let her know. I accepted, we went to the Griffin restaurant shortly after. I let my server know about the offer and that I was staying at the Sarah cottage. He had no idea what I was saying. He went to Jenny who told him they were offering an appetizer only, (this was after I explained what Jessica said). What started out as a nice gesture now turned into our waiter negotiating back and forth with Jenny. We didn't want any appetizers. We finally agreed on desserts instead and ordered our food. Well, just when we didn't think things could get any worse, our food arrived. Apparently we didn't see the fine print to - "chicken caesar salad", (because it was so dark, with 2 mini candles at our table), it didn't mean grilled chicken/romaine lettuce, it actually meant shredded BBQ chicken and a kale salad with a garlic ceasar dressing. My daughter and I didn't dare touch the 2 orders. Instead we picked at my husband's mac n cheese. This restaurant is trying to be a 4 star restaurant on a hot dog truck budget. The food smelled awful, the chicken had a rotten/vinegar smell to it? To make matters EVEN worse ... We were sat next to a party table that added another person. With no room at the end, this man was sort of added as a 4th person at our table sitting side ways along side our table? I managed to pull our table a little away from theirs to make room for him at the end of their table not ours. The entire time, I watched Jenny the manager pass by our table repeatedly, (I heard the staff call her Jenny, that's how I know it was her), she never came over to our table to say anything, we were ignored the entire time while she made sure to give much attention to the table next to us. We sat so long waiting for "salads & mac n cheese" that we decided to forget dessert. They compensated us with 1 salad. The best part about the Griffin restaurant was leaving. To say that Jenny was unprofessional relaying the information to a young waiter instead of speaking to us would be an understatement. The lack of any care for us as guests was worse than any place I have ever been to. Pros for the cottage: Good location, beautiful inside, no hassle "check in" Cons for the cottage: lack of attention to detail: the outside of the cottage looked like a forest/jungle, lack of landscaping. We were swarmed by mosquitoes, flys, bugs upon arrival and every time we got in/out of our car! We hiked most of our time, we didn't notice any problem at parks with bugs/mosquitoes? It seems the cottage needs some attention. Also, as a safety issue, we didn't like that anyone could see inside, no curtain on front door, back door, side door and all the door panels were glass?? This is NY and the cottage is off of a busy road after all?? Lastly, It was hard to see where to pull in from the road because vines had grown over their mailbox, and the numbers on the side were barely noticeable, I only knew from looking online that this must have been the cottage. Side note, there was no bar soap, maybe at a place like this that is not required? Not sure, but we purchased our own soap along with another roll of toilet paper....we couldn't find any extra. Just the 1 roll on there. Maybe they are trying to cut corners? We would not return and would definitely not recommend. PS Jessica, thanks for coming to get the garbage, I just wish you had thought of putting another bag in the cabinet for us, we did it ourselves, no problem. This entire stay screams lack of care. Next time we will stay at a hotel and pay extra so we won't go through this again.

This tiny drive-up motel is a genuine throwback to an earlier, simpler age, but with enough updates to please the modern traveller. The suites are fresh and clean, the beds are exceedingly comfortable, the kitchenette is basic but cheery, the bathroom spotless and bright. Not everything is perfect, but this really only adds to the charm. The proprietors clearly love their facility and want to impart some of this to you! My favorite amenities were the luxurious lanai in the back yard, the grill (one for each suite!), the blue and green lighting, and of course the location in the heart of the Catskills. If you want a five-star, starched, concrete-and-glass experience, this is not for you. But if you desire a place not just to lay your head but to get a taste of the easy, homegrown pace of life in the Catskills, you have found it.
