This review is for the Hotel first & their Restaurant second.
The hotel itself is very nicely situated directly on the lovely harbor of the Isle of Skye. The views of the surrounding mountains are spectacular and it's proximity to the town is perfect. The service is 5 Star and they have a beautiful restaurant. The rooms however are a different story. It's a funky quirky layout as it used to be comprised of 3 different fishing houses. The rooms are small, not fancy, and the furnishings are on the shabby side but functional with storage. We had only a tub with No shower. We had 1 very small window which did have a fab view of the gorgeous harbor. The bed was very comfortable. The Rosedale is old, has a ton of stairs and multiple levels. It could use some updating but it has soul! Good for an adventurous traveler.
The Restaurant: Overlooks the stunning harbor and has a lovely view with nice service and reasonable prices. They served a Scottish Tapas menu with seafood, meat, Veg options & desserts. Wine, Beer & Drinks. We started with a bottle of French champagne & l loved that they brought it in a bucket with ice and proper stemware. We tried all the seafood options, the roast lamb loin with peas, the green salad, and the bread & butter ( it's considered one of the tapas). They recommend 3 to 4 tapas per person. The problem was they brought everything out at once!! Here we are at a small table for two with a champagne bucket, our place settings, glasses, water, a candle, and 10 different food items. Of course some things got cold! We had the scallops, gin cured salmon, monkfish ceviche, crab cake and the mussels. All the seafood was fantastic except the white wine steamed mussels which were in a thick red sauce that not only overpowered the delicate mussels but became cold quickly and became gelatinous. The lamb & the peas were slightly overcooked in my opinion & not hot enough. The bread was just simply BAD. The green salad was wilted and way too overdressed. They do have desserts but we did not have room. If I were to dine here again I would ask them to course out the small plates rather than all at once, so my hot dishes would stay hot. The kitchen & servers should know this. read more
