    Chicken dinner
    Rits M.

This is a lovely little hotel on the Portree harbour. We came here for a celebration dinner and I think we only saw fixed price menus, £35 for three course dinner and 30 for 2 courses. The place is right at the Harbour so it's lovely from a view standpoint - get corner seating in the restaurant if you can. We came here to celebrate a birthday and I'm glad we did. Lots of lovely wood tables and very accommodating staff who were great with allergies and making recommendations. Service was a little slow but that was probably a combination of island life and new summer staff. All the food was interesting and well prepared, and the space and food both have an upscale vibe to them. They brought us the food well spaced out so it didn't seem like they were crowding us. Also here, always ask for the butter. It's outstanding. Parking is a bit tight - it's on a hill and theres very little room given the roads but the hotel helps you to find a spot which works. I do recommend making a reservation especially if you're visiting on a weekend

Very solid meal with good service. Started with venison carpaccio, which was excellent. Followed by the hake, which was also perfectly prepared. Service was friendly and the waiter truly was trying to do a great job (he seemed a little new but was flawless). My only complaint was they charged extra for bread, which was three small rolls and nothing special.

This review is for the restaurant only. We stayed in the hotel as well and had breakfast every morning. Breakfasts were very good and service was great. We also had dinner one night, we were pleasantly surprised as most of our dishes were very tasty. The salmon was over cooked. The lamb shank was the best dish of the night.

Not the best food but not terrible either. We had very few options after traveling all day and just were not impressed.

The Cuillin Hills Hotel in Portree is one of the nicest hotel experiences we've had in a long time…read more Portree is a quaint little town on the Isle of Skye on the west coast of Scotland. It's some of the most beautiful scenery we've seen. The hotel is as comfortable as you will find in a luxury hotel. The bar and restaurant features stunning views of Portree Bay and the Cuillin mountains. Gary our bartender was a wizard whipping up a number of signature and classic cocktails. He was so friendly and generous to share all kinds of local knowledge about the cocktail/scotch scene in the area. The Talisker distillery is only a few miles away. I had no idea Drambuie was created and marketed in Isle of Skye. It actually says it on the bottle which Gary showed us (photo #10). It makes sense it was created and made in Scotland being a scotch-based liqueur. Of course I had to order a Rusty Nail (photo #3) which Gary was excited I even knew about the very old school cocktail. A Rusty Nail is simply 2 oz. Scotch and 3/4 oz. Drambuie served with a lemon garnish. Its origin dates back to the 1930's and made popular by the Rat Pack (Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr.) in the 1960's. If you like scotch you'll love a Rusty Nail. Give it a go!! The bar has a "Malt Embassy" with over 130 whiskies (photo #4 & 9). Whatever kind of scotch you're into they have it. The flights are a lot of fun so you can easily taste a wide variety of local whiskies. The design of the hotel is as beautiful as the surrounding landscape. The lounge areas are stunning and very comfortable. What's better than having a lovely local scotch in front of the fire with your beautiful wife celebrating your 25th wedding anniversary (photo #5)? If you ever visit Scotland, Isle of Skye is a must. We highly recommend Portree and the Cuillin Hills Hotel. You need to get there. Salute

We had two excellent bartenders who gave us lots of advice and remembered us throughout our stay. There is a comfortable lounge with a live fire. If I have one suggestion, it is to host a wine and cheese night in the lounge for an hour or so each night. This would be the only way I could think to improve the hotel. The view from the hotel is gorgeous with a perfect scene of the colorful Portree houses. Location is great, about 15 minutes drive from Old Man of Storr. Breakfast is included and very well done. The yogurt had a delicious compote. My husband enjoyed his Scottish breakfast with haggis, blood pudding, and a potato scone. I loved my Eggs Royale with perfectly crispy English muffins topped with smoked salmon and hollandaise. We had dinner at Dulse & Brose one night and we were able to walk there within about 10 minutes, which was appreciated after so much time spent in the car. They offer a variety of complimentary toiletries and others for a small fee, such as a hair straightener, which I thought was thoughtful. They also offer complimentary still and sparkling water, biscuits, tea, coffee, and fruit. We loved that the TV could be easily connected to our phones and stream our shows after a long day exploring the Highlands. The bed was very large and comfortable, although the room itself was relatively small. There was a towel heating rack in the bathroom.

The hotel staff was lovely and helpful. We were smart enough to have made a dinner reservation before our arrival for our one night stay. Nice pubby dark wood décor and seating spread over a couple of rooms. Many tables occupied on our visit. Dinner menu Scottish leaning as to be expected. It was clear from the outset that they were low on staff with our (very young) server and water coming a good bit after seating. My partner was not real hungry this evening so chose to do a bowl of the soup the day-potato & leek. This came with a wonderful, fresh roll. The roll was pronounced fantastic. We have enjoyed many an excellent bread item in Scotland and this was another example here. They know what they're doing. The soup was very tasty but after a few spoonfulls, it became "boring". My choice was a Filet of Scottish Sea Trout (yes it is different from Salmon, Google it). Served with roasted new potatoes, braised leeks, herb crusted baby carrots, and smoked mussel butter sauce. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, as were the leeks. The carrots were interesting with the herb "crust", and the mussel sauce added an umami depth to the fish. Interestingly, the sauce included a few nicely cooked, out of the shell, mussels. A succulent addition. Loved every bite. For dessert, we chose a Cinnamon Apple Tart with Caramel Whipped Cream and Vanilla Ice Cream. All of this came together for a scrumptious finale to our meal. Especially the whipped cream. Perfect portion size also. Different planning could have put us here for a longer period of time and it would have been wonderful. If you are traveling in this area, try to either stay or eat here. You won't regret it. Highly recommended.
