    The restaurants in Portree were all booked or open later. This was recommended to us by our hosts at the B&B. Got there early and was seated immediately but for 5:30pm they were busy already. There is some parking in the back as well as the front lot but all of it filled up fast. Started with a pint and the missus had a lemon sparkling water. The pint was what they called a "ale-ger" as it was in between an ale and a lager. Good beer and cold. The sparkling lemonade was nicely refreshing. The appetizers were the most interesting part of the menu so the wife ordered three apps for dinner and I went with the Scottish Lamb. The apps were Mussels, Scallops and Gnocchi. Mussels were cooked well but could I wish they had a bit more garlic or oomph. Scallops were very tender and served on a chickpea curry cake. If you're not into curry may want to see if they could sub it. Gnocchi appeared to have been pan fried which gave it a great flavor and texture. A rich creamy sauce made it a great dish, a true standout. Substantial for an appetizer. Since there are sheep all over Skye and pretty much Scotland in general I had to give them a try. The lamb was very tender. No need for a knife, easily cut with a fork. Served with brown gravy on a bed of mashed potatoes and roasted parsnip slices with pea greens and a splash of mashed pea for decoration/color. Could tell it was lamb but wasn't overpowering. The service was good and the place was packed halfway through our meal. The wife had to force herself to finish the Gnocchi as it was that good. So no room for dessert.

    We were staying in a holiday let a short walk away from the Edinbane Inn, so we popped in for drinks in the bar on a few evenings. It has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I loved sitting near the peat fire and sipping a pint of local Isle of Skye ale. We didn't eat here, but the menu looked tempting. Lots of local fish and produce.

The hotel staff was lovely and helpful. We were smart enough to have made a dinner reservation before our arrival for our one night stay. Nice pubby dark wood décor and seating spread over a couple of rooms. Many tables occupied on our visit. Dinner menu Scottish leaning as to be expected. It was clear from the outset that they were low on staff with our (very young) server and water coming a good bit after seating. My partner was not real hungry this evening so chose to do a bowl of the soup the day-potato & leek. This came with a wonderful, fresh roll. The roll was pronounced fantastic. We have enjoyed many an excellent bread item in Scotland and this was another example here. They know what they're doing. The soup was very tasty but after a few spoonfulls, it became "boring". My choice was a Filet of Scottish Sea Trout (yes it is different from Salmon, Google it). Served with roasted new potatoes, braised leeks, herb crusted baby carrots, and smoked mussel butter sauce. The potatoes were perfectly cooked, as were the leeks. The carrots were interesting with the herb "crust", and the mussel sauce added an umami depth to the fish. Interestingly, the sauce included a few nicely cooked, out of the shell, mussels. A succulent addition. Loved every bite. For dessert, we chose a Cinnamon Apple Tart with Caramel Whipped Cream and Vanilla Ice Cream. All of this came together for a scrumptious finale to our meal. Especially the whipped cream. Perfect portion size also. Different planning could have put us here for a longer period of time and it would have been wonderful. If you are traveling in this area, try to either stay or eat here. You won't regret it. Highly recommended.

Perched along a rocky beach, the DHC boasts perhaps one of the best hotel views I have ever seenfrom the large picture window in my room, I could see the haunting (and haunted?) ruins of Duntulm castle to the left, a few grazing sheep in the foreground, and an impressive monolith in the center of the hotel's bay. Overhead wheeled graceful gannets and seagulls. Our visit was during July, and we were offered a nature-watching boat trip to spot large basking sharks that are supposedly often visible from the hotel. The weather, however, was no cooperative and the small boat would not brave such choppy waters. Despite this, we were not in the least disappointed by our stay. On the sunnier days, we had a clear view of the Outer Hebrides. During the greyer hours, we comforted ourselves by a real peat fire in the sitting room, and were entertained in the newly renovated bar with smooth malts, local beers, and a few friendly billiard games with salty locals. The DCH also has a restaurant, whose menu features both local seafood and traditional Scottish fare, with a gourmet twist provided by a resident chef (whose name I can't recall). The braised scallops were possibly the best I've ever tasted (as a beach girl from Florida, that's staying a lot!) Breakfast was very large and tasty, though I learned that I am not a fan of black pudding. After breakfast, we were full to the point of discomfort, and had to take a hike on the nearby Quirang walk to feel lighter again. I feel compelled to mention the hotel's staff, as they are not only efficient and attentive, but carry a charmingly wry sense of humor that accompanies most of their interactions. Their easy banter between both themselves and with their guests made us feel right at home. The rooms themselves were spacious, clean and fresh-feeling. On the downside, the interior hallways and carpets are a bit worn and old-looking. I overheard the owner (who is himself an amusing character) discussing plans for updating certain parts of the hotel, so the place may look better presently. On the other hand, with the rugged, isolated, and timeless surroundings and the stiff breeze coming off the Minch, perhaps new and modern are not the qualities that would best suit the DHC.

Shown a mini tour of the lodge and brought to "the big room". The dining room with about 8 tables. Neatly decorated with gold framed paintings of the lineage of the hotel. We were gifted some complementary fizz for our anniversary which was so special. Spectacular service, my husband was interested in some whisky and the hostess/whisky expert/amazing woman came to ask what he likes and recommend something. He loved what he got, a local whisky made down the road. We had the special of the day: Pie and Pud. Mine was cheese and leek and his was venison. Delicious! The first dish we've had in Scotland where even the vegetables were seasoned. Perfect pastry and such savory flavors. We were almost too full for the pud! Almost. Toffee pudding and chocolate brownie were intensely sweet and yummy. After dessert, we were welcome to have tea in the parlor, but of course! Great views of the loch while having fresh loose leaf tea, homemade shortbread, and a crackling fireplace.     I've visited and stayed at this beautiful, hearty and homey hotel with a bus tour group (Caledonian…read moreTravel) for four nights with my granny which all of this was my early birthday present from her this year which it's was the absolute best present I ever had even though I've wanted to do a coach holiday to the Outer Hebrides for two years since the pandemic until this year where my wish had come true. Our room was beautiful and we got the best views from the front and the side. The room was spotless and also our room was massive even though the ensuite bathroom was very roomy. Even some Tea, Coffee and biscuits were delivered to our room doorstep daily which was great. The free hotel wifi was excellent, comfortable and cosy beds and lots of storage especially the wardrobe for our clothes and shoes. We had a great night's sleep and great hot baths every night after going on our great adventures in The Outer Hebrides during our stay. From day one to the day we were leaving, The staff, especially Sandra had been outstanding with a huge passion for running such a lovely hotel like The Isle Of Benbecula House. Also, They were caring, loving and understanding about my hidden disability "Autism" and even they took some time out from their work duties to have a wee chat with me every evening during dinner when I go to the bar lounge to get my soda drink, especially on the final day when we were leaving the hotel to start the long journey home to Coatbridge. They asked me how I'm doing and how my adventures in The Outer Hebrides were and make sure that everything is okay with me. Even Sandra, Nicola and the rest of the fabulous hotel dream team had gone beyond the extra mile by arranging our meal times around our busy coach tour schedule that week without any trouble at all they've wanted to make sure that we all have got proper meals before we go on the excursions and after we get back to the hotel from our excursions on the coach, even they had put on a huge late evening buffet for us when we got back from a busy day in The Isle of Lewis on the last night staying there which it was brilliant. The food was absolutely outstanding and modern. All of the meals we had at the hotel were all great quality products and homemade throughout and I loved every bit of it. Every morning the staff organised a breakfast buffet for us with lots of things laid out in a beautiful way with all of the cooked items on one side while hot porridge, cereals, fruit salad and yoghurts, fruit juices and milk on the other side. The Stornoway black pudding, the back bacon rashers and beef and pork sausages were absolutely the best I've ever tasted in my entire life that I had it every day. I love homemade porridge, fruit salad and honey nut flakes cereal. Two evenings during our stay, we had two fabulous three-course dinners with three choices in each course that my granny and I had fully enjoyed. The two three-course dinners were absolutely delicious in a very special Hebrides homemade way. My favourite dishes were roast beef, Sticky Toffee Pudding, North Atlantic fish pie and the Black pudding and ham hock terrine. It is absolutely the best Sticky Toffee Pudding I've ever tasted. On the last night, the hotel staff had put on a lovely late-night buffet for us when we had returned from the Isle Of Lewis with a very great choice of dishes inspired from other countries including Mexico, Italy, India and Thailand which it's was brilliant, especially the Red Thai Beef Curry and The Chicken Korma curry, outstanding. Brilliant Customer Service all-round from start to finish with the first-class treatment of smiles, delicious food, lovely rooms, joys, love and care. I'm 100% recommend this lovely hotel if you're heading to the Outer Hebrides on your holiday this year or you're looking for a perfect place for your love ones with special needs, then The Isle Of Benbecula House Hotel is the right place for you and your love ones with special needs as long as you email directly to the hotel two weeks in advance to notify them what your child/adult needs to make sure the hotel staff are prepared to make your holiday enjoyable just like mine. If you would like to put in a special hotel request like food allergies, a special required room or anything you wish to have, the hotel is always more than happy to accommodate you with your special requirements before your holiday begins. A Big Thank You To Heidi, Sandra and Her Fabulous Team For All Of Their Hard Work To Make My Dream Outer Hebrides Coach Holiday Really Special. I'll return to this wonderful hotel someday in the future.
