Duisdale Hotel - Ham hock terrine

My husband and I spent two nights here back in March, and loved it. The hotel is beautiful. Our…read moreroom was lovely. Because the weather was a bit inclement, we appreciated their bar and lounge area. We are both avid hikers, and the staff very helpfully gave us directions/information about spots to visit. Their chef is fantastic, we had a superb meal in their dining room. They also introduced me to my new favorite breakfast, porridge with a shot of Scotch. Our next stop after the Isle of Skye was Iona, and when it came time to leave the ferry stop was a short drive down the road. The drive, and necessary ferry rides, by the way, were fantastic.

Came here with a group of 5 friends and a reservation for dinner. This restaurant attracts an older…read moreand classy clientele. The service and head waiter are very polite but the kitchen is very slow. An older group of 8 staying at the hotel actually walked out of their meal before dessert because it took too long. The only other guests besides ourselves, two couples, each waited 30 minutes for their desserts. The waiters and the bar could be better coordinated. Wine is a little pricey for the quality. In terms of food, I had the ham hock terrine, the Aberdeenshire sirloin steak, and the sticky toffee pudding. The terrine is a bit like corned beef mash and not bad. The steak, ordered medium rare, came out a little more done than medium rare and was not a sirloin. The sticky toffee pudding was not bad, a little overly sweet. My friends got the salmon and the scallops. The scallops were absolutely great. The salmon that came as an appetizer was an imaginative dish: hot salmon on top of cold salmon. The salmon that came as an entree was satisfactory and better than the steaks.

HARRY POTTER FANS, listen up: This hotel is WALKING DISTANCE from the Harry Potter Bridge here in Glenfinnan. You know the one. FLying car, chamber of secrets, Hogwarts express? Yeah, that's right!! NOT ONLY THAT, but it is right on Lock Shiel which, in addition to being absolutely stunning, is the lake that Hogwarts is on. Compare pictures to this lake to photos from the second task(mermaids) from Goblet of Fire....you will SCREAM! Enough about Harry Potter. This hotel is quaint, homey, and incredibly warm and lively. The entire staff goes above and beyond to make sure that your needs and desires are met. From the included breakfast every morning to the offering of packed lunches for your daily hikes the team here is a cut above the rest. The rooms are large with beautifully updated, modern washrooms and showers. The tea kettles and assortment of coffee and teas(in room) are brilliant and the perfect touch. The main dining area/restaurant is delicious with terrific daily specials. The bar area/casual dining area is just as great and features traditional, Scottish, live music some nights. This place will remain at the TOP of my list not only for myself but for recommendations to anyone that may ask. Thank you to the brilliant team behind this beautiful hotel.

I almost had to give a one…read more.. But I think because of the professionalism with the service and the decor and what not, I didn't think it was a complete miss. I have had way worster experiences and I feel like these reviews are more for the hotel itself rather than just the restaurant itself so I do want to be somewhat fair. With all that being said... I can't confidently recommend the restaurant here. The Caesar salad was literally the only thing that was somewhat edible. I had been in Scotland for almost a week at this point and it was also the first time that I had ever been charged for water. That was something I kinda wished they would have mentioned to us if they were going to do that. That's not cool man. It really comes off as shady. For food I ordered the Seafood Risotto and there was practically no flavor. When I asked my friends how they felt about their dishes, it was unanimous around the table. Maybe the chef just quit the night before and they were trying to make do with what they have and know? It's just weird right? You see the pictures and see how cool The Inch looks inside and out and just figure if they have a restaurant that it's going to have at least "some" form of quality to the food. But there was none to be found unfortunately and you are left just feeling like this place is a tourist trap. So yea can't recommend the food here. Then again it is a small area. Maybe that's just all the people know? It'd be really sad if that was actually the case. My only hope is that the staying there for the night is an actual 5 star experience.

When we checked in the lovely girl came outside to greet us. It was the sweetest hotel check in ever!! Our room was lovely. There's a huge living room with a fireplace that they lit downstairs. That was my favorite place to hang out. There was also chairs outside overlooking the lake and it was so quiet and peaceful at night. And there's a little hike behind the hotels to the waterfall. It was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The food in the restaurant was superior. They rent out the whole place for weddings and I'm trying to talk my best friend into getting married there it was so great.

Shown a mini tour of the lodge and brought to "the big room". The dining room with about 8 tables. Neatly decorated with gold framed paintings of the lineage of the hotel. We were gifted some complementary fizz for our anniversary which was so special. Spectacular service, my husband was interested in some whisky and the hostess/whisky expert/amazing woman came to ask what he likes and recommend something. He loved what he got, a local whisky made down the road. We had the special of the day: Pie and Pud. Mine was cheese and leek and his was venison. Delicious! The first dish we've had in Scotland where even the vegetables were seasoned. Perfect pastry and such savory flavors. We were almost too full for the pud! Almost. Toffee pudding and chocolate brownie were intensely sweet and yummy. After dessert, we were welcome to have tea in the parlor, but of course! Great views of the loch while having fresh loose leaf tea, homemade shortbread, and a crackling fireplace. We were frequently checked on to make sure we were doing ok and just felt so welcome and at home. We could have stayed all day.

Silly Goose is located in the Lime Tree Inn and it's pure perfection! We were greeted kindly and welcomed into the cozy dining space. Spacious but very romantic. We started with drinks enjoying local gin and whiskey. My husband got to try the Sassenach that he'd been eyeing! For dinner, we got the ribeye and chicken. We were so impressed with how well these were cooked. So soft and moist! We were too full for dessert but they had a nice menu of options. The restaurant is spectacular and worth the visit if you are in the area. Be sure to make a reservation as they did have to turn folks away!
