ROSE CASEY - this review is specifically for her. She is in Studio #20.
Rose Casey is a genius. Now, I am NOT the kind of person who throws around the term "genius" for just anyone. Truly, this woman is a master.
I went to see Rose after one TRAUMATIC hair experience at the Paul Mitchell School in Sherman Oaks, and after 2 so-so experiences with another experienced hairdresser. I have spent the past 7 months being very unhappy with my hair and what that crazy chick at the school did to it.
Quick background: I went to PM for highlights and the girl ( a Level II student, btw) turned my hair BRIGHT bozo-the clown ORANGE. I am not a person prone to exaggeration, please trust me when I say, it was ORANGE. Now, that would be fine if I was a trendy alt-rock hip young thing that wanted orange hair, but I am a thirty-something mom to a five year old and I wanted your basic suburban mom pretty soft blond highlights in my medium brown hair. Not too hard, right? Apparently very hard, to this particular student....Anyway long story short, I spent 7 HOURS at the school while the girl put one toner or treatment after another on my hair, trying to correct the problem (and nary an instructor or supervisor in sight - see my review for the PM school for more on this!)...As you can guess, all these processes completely trashed my hair...it felt like paper for three months :(.
So then I go to a perfectly nice, sweet experienced stylist who did an okay job of trying to correct the orange tones, but I still wasn't totally happy - he used bleach for the highlights and it was A) too bright and yellowish, and B) too damn hard on my already fried hair!. still, as I said, he did a decent job , and so I decided to give him another try when I needed a touch-up a couple months later. But again - the color/bleach he chose just made my hair WAY too bright and brassy, and another contention I had was that he did not extend the highlights all the way to my scalp, so I still essentially had "roots" even when I left the salon (wtf??). And yet another - he weaved the highlights WAY too heavy into my hair, so I ended up with that fake whole-head-the same-shade-of-blonde look...which I HATE - to me, the point of a weave is that you still have your darker tones mixed in, so the look has more depth, and is more natural. And here's the thing - I am always very clear and descriptive with want I want from the get-go with any stylist...it just bugs me that so many stylists rush you, and don't really listen to what you're asking for :(. They just rely on their standard color formulas and procedures and do them on every client...now why would you do that, when everybody's hair is so different? I'm not saying that's the case with all stylists, but it has been the case with alot that I have been to...
Okay, so that brings me to Rose, and why I am so happy to have found her! She actually takes her time, asks you lots of questions and LISTENS to you! And - she is at the same time, completely honest about what she thinks is best for your hair type, texture, condition, coloring, etc....I Love that!
Continuing,...so now you know what I went to Rose with...I went to her with a too-bright, brassy, yellowy blond head of hair, with dark roots in a perfect line of demarcation...um, can you say trailer-trash?? Ugh.
Rose is a gem. I have been to so many hairdressers and this woman is a standout. It is obvious the moment you sit in her chair, that she actually CARES about her craft, and you, her client. She did not rush me, on the contrary I felt quite at ease as she took her time and assessed the damage...she took several minutes just ascertaining the natural tones in my hair - and judged, quite accurately, that my hair has alot of underlying reddish tones in it. Hard to believe - but I have had very few hairstylists notice this, and hence by needs realize that to put any kind of "warm" toned blonde on me, is going to turn my head, you guessed it - ORANGE! Rose quite brilliantly chose a more grayish-toned blond, knowing that it would react perfectly with the red tones already present in my hair, and produce the most perfect shade of light buttery blond...JUST what I wanted :).
So , I was immediately impressed by her insight and her technical skills. Then, she further impressed me by choosing to put a brown color very close to my natural color, just here and there among the blond highlights (which as I said - were waaay too heavy from the last guy )and this of course perfectly balanced out the blond, and made me look like my old self again! I actually teared up when she started blowing it out...I did not realize how much I had hated that brassy look, until she magically gave me my "real" look back. Having not even known me nor ever seen me before the trailer-trash look, and to be able to transform me back to my original color/look - I mean, she NAILed it! I was so, so impressed!
I am a loyal client for life! Go to Rose , NOW!! You will not be sorry read more
