Dr. Nelson has treated my husband for many years. I have left reviews in the past, so this is an update and additional recognition. Once again, an emergency room visit resulted in a call to Dr. Nelson for help. The ER doctor was also attentive and did all she could. She communicated with Dr. Nelson and he was, as always, responsive and helpful. There is no arrangement of words to express what Dr. Nelson has done for my husband over the years. Recognition also to Ann! Ann is more than just the 'surgery scheduler'- she made the time to come out and speak with me and bring her skills to answer questions around a new surgery. It's been challenging to wait (several years) for a surgery that has potential to bring relief for my husband. Ann was absolutely right on the problem. Without her involvement, from her critical scheduling position, we would not have known about recent changes. She took the time to go beyond anything we could have anticipated. I'm very disappointed with the lack of communication from Dr Nelson's office. I tried unsuccessfully for a week to get my mom's ostomy supply prescription refilled and sent to the supply company without success. An ostomy patient cannot be without supplies. I made phone calls daily and now I'm actually sitting in the office making the request in person since the promises I was made on the daily calls were never fulfilled. It took 90 minutes of in person begging to finally get the prescription renewed. The office staff is awful at follow thru. I gave 2 stars only because the doctor is kind to my mom but his office staff needs to be replaced or undergo further training. read more

Your office kept rescheduling my husband and then no follow up as well! You are not able to give patients quality treatment or care! Dr Nelson is fine, he cured my son, altho with my knowledge & research the cystoscopies ordered like Santa w/candy is not as useful but considerable more damaging causing the patient often to gain more bacteria causing excruciating pain, but we patients are crazy & was treated like an idiot when I refused..we're talking about embedded uti's which he also won't recognize altho he uses the best testing out there for which I am grateful. BUT, the biggest complaint is how that office is run, you'd have a easier time finding the proverbial needle in the haystack. You never get to the person you need, their voice automation is a joke & the patient is the one who pays for it in the end w/treatments not given altho the treatment is plain as day in the patient file. It took me 4 days to get a call with a message that showed the ineptness of the staff & inability to take a message correctly and you have to remind them to look at your file..they still will not do what is plainly in the notes, won't communicate with the Dr & insist you take more tests altho already in file as to results & suggested abx. The Dr tells you one thing, the staff says another & won't confer w/Dr Nelson. I don't think after this garbage I will get proper care that I need or deserve. This office is impossible to reach. They use an answering service that is hard to understand and it is impossible to communicate with. And they do NOT calll you back for days or weeks. It takes multiple calls to schedule appts. They cancelled our appointment on us and then wouldn't reschedule us for 2 months! It's a complete joke trying to work with this office. Terrible. Left many messages and no o e returned my calls until I contacted the Office Manager. He apologized and I thought the issue was resolved but same thing happened. Long wait in the waiting room (30 minutes). Dr. Did sling for incontinence but it did not work at all. He suggested uni wait 6 months to see if any improvement. After 6 months not only no improvement but worse. The last time I was I. His office he spent most of the time angrily complaining to me about a patient who was going to sue him. I started seeing Dr Nelson after he attended to my wife for kidney stones. She was very impressed and believe me that can be very difficult to do with this woman. He gave her the bad news of how big her stones were and how it may not be able to pass them without assistance. He eventually had to "thump" the stones to break them up so she could pass them and she was very happy with the care she received. I have been using this office ever since, the doc and his staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. read more

A few years ago I had a radical prostatectomy. Unfortunately scar tissue had formed and caused a decrease in flow. To make a long story shorter, I ended up in the ER not being able to urinate two times. My urologist at the time did dilation procedures both times that only lasted at best a couple weeks. I ended up wearing a catheter for 6 months. I believed that this was going to be forever. Fortunately I heard about Dr. Nelson. He did a process called Amniofix. Next month will be a year without a catheter and I have normal urine flow. I highly recommend Dr. Nelson! read more

Dr. Nelson clearly explained the reasons for the pain Russ is experiencing. With several medical problems intersecting in the past year, it's a relief to move forward with steps to deal with the continual pain. The staff here is incredibly responsive to phone calls and questions. Shauna and Michelle scheduled surgery with incredible proficiency and professionalism- as well as several moments of humor and laughter. If you enjoy waiting, and a doctor never on time and does not value your time, staff that never keeps you informed about time schedule, or you enjoy being overlooked...by all means go see them. Dr. Nelson does fine work, however this last visit with him left me so upset with him and his staff.I have seen him 4 -5 times...EVERY time he was late by an hour or more and the staff unsympathetic. I will find another doctor who cares about all facets of his business. If you are running two hours late, would be courteous to call appointments scheduled to let them know. That is a substantial lot of time to be running late. Then when I arrive early to my appointment, send me next door to get an xray, who are running late as well, and then tell me, if I am late more than 15 minutes past my scheduled appointment getting back over to them, they will have to reschedule me...really? When you are running two hours late ??? They put me in a room one hour past my appointment where I sat for another 55 minutes before I came out of the room and questioned how much longer. The nurse then took over and that is who I saw for my appointment because I had complained about the time. When leaving the room, Dr. Nelson had his back to me standing at the counter and I noticed him put his head down as to hide his face. I knew it was him and he would not even acknowledge me or apologize to me ? I know things happen, but he showed his lack of caring. Have seen him over two year span and nothing has changed from beginning to end. Still the same lack of respect for my time and a staff that needs lessons in professionalism. read more

Maybe the physician is good. Maybe not. He certainly doesn't run an office that's attentive to patient needs. Every time my husband or I call we are placed on hold for 10-15 minutes. Then when we get hold of someone, they don't do what they say they will do. Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in the doctor if he cannot run a practice that focuses on the needs of the patients. What if there was a problem after surgery and we called? Would we just be placed on hold again and again? There's no reason to believe it would be otherwise. These doctors need to invest in their practice -- hire more people and implement some processes. read more

My wife was told during the appointment scheduling phone call that I could do self pay if they do not take my insurance. She stated what our insurance was, just to be sure, and they restated that if they don't take our insurance, that I could do self pay. So I blocked out my schedule 3 months in advance. Then when I show up for my appointment, I was informed, not only do they not take my insurance, but they wouldn't allow me to self pay. The worst part about it is they made zero attempt to find a solution or even apologize. They basically said sorry we can't help you. I can't ever imagine treating a customer like that. Let alone, one who is trying to pay you. read more

When other urologists couldn't figure out what was wrong with me I went to Dr Nelson. He listened to me, believed me and worked with me to resolve my issue. When I truly was losing all hope he came up with a treatment plan and I'm now no longer needing to see a urologist. I went for months with burning and blood in my urine. The treatment I received from Dr Nelson was unconventional (and probably a little controversial), but it was necessary. Dr Nelson thought outside the box and in about 4-5 months resolved my issue. Without him I would still be in and out of the hospital with sepsis infections and going to countless medical appts. Due to covid there have been some miscommunication with appts, but I've noticed more issues with that recently with other offices as well. read more

Dr Roscoe Nelson SAVED me when an ER doctor and URO on call were incompetent (ER DOC) and uncapable/inexperienced (URO on call). I was septic almost died by the hands of the ER doctor and then was going to lose my kidney by the URO on call -the URO on call even went to his TEAM to see what to do to help me and I literally had the lead URO come into my hospital room hop up on the counter and just look at me - as he said "I got Nothing". This is hands down the worst experience of any Doctor I have ever been to. Dr Roscoe and Dr Nagpal, share an office and I saw Dr. Nagpal. It requires an act of Congress to get a call back from this office, even if it is for test results. I have always followed their instructions of leaving a single message per day, and although their message says you will receive a call back by the end of the day, I have never found that to be true. The quality of care was also extremely poor. My situation could have been resolved in the first visit with a simple urine test that I was told was happening, only to find out on the next visit, that test was never done. Took two weeks from the date of my first visit to diagnose an incredibly simple UTI. Unfortunately the prescribed antibiotics I was given are not working, and I had to book an appointment with a different urologist in the valley, because I can't get this office to call me back with a different antibiotic prescription. If you value a doctor doing what they say, getting test results, and having your voicemails returned, then avoid this office like the plague. If you don't care about those three things, then maybe give this place a whirl, but don't say I didn't warn you. read more

Dr. Nelson may be one of the top 10 in Arizona, but I am looking for a new urologist for my dad!!!!! The office staff and procedures that are in place, are not professional at all!!!! On Aug. 9, 2022 father's hematology/oncology doctor shared with us that my dad he has a large mass on his right kidney and a small one on his left kidney. She instructed me to get him in to see Dr. Roscoe Nelson STAT!! I drove to his office with a copy of the paperwork that was given to me from the hematology doctor. I shared my concerns and the need to get my dad an appointment ASAP! The girls at the front desk had no passion and did not see the urgency and told me "the next available appointment Dr. Nelson has in on Monday Aug. 24". I told her she was crazy and that I need to get him in sooner!!!! She said "I'm sorry, but that's the best we can do and that they could add my dad onto the cancellation list and call me if there's a cancellation". Since Aug. 9, 2022, I have been calling every day to see if anyone cancelled, no luck! When you call the 602-942-5600 number, you are not calling the office, you're call a freaking call center in another country!!! Anyone you speak to at the call center are foreign.....no one there is American!!!!!!! You never speak directly to anyone at the office! Why can't the girls at the front desk take calls??? The times I have gone in there, all they are doing is either talking or playing on their phones!!!! Again, if Dr. Nelson is "one of the top" urologist, then he needs to get his stuff together and make some changes to the process and staffing that work for him. All of is very frustrating!!!!! On Aug. 17, 2022, I was in the area of Dr. Nelson's office and went in to see if I could make an appointment for my dad. Again, the girl at the counter did not seem to understand my urgency and said " I'm sorry but there is nothing I can do since Dr. Nelson is out of the office for the remainder of the week"!! I understand that appointments need to be made and have been made with other patients, but if there's an urgency and another doctor sends in a report requesting a STAT appointment, you'd think that the staff would bring to the doctors attention and rearrange other appointments to accommodate the request of another doctor!!! Dr. Nelson, teach your staff to read other doctors reports/messages and tell them to bring them to your attention and make arrangements when they see a "STAT" requests that has been sent to you!!!! read more

well affter seeing the dr and trying to work with the staff im sorry to say a big fat zero for me.. Horrible commuincation.. which i see they have had since last year based on some of the reviews.. lots of reasons Y.. of course. finally i just canceled my surgery appts. due to lack of care and consern. to this day im not sure who's urine they used to do the dna testing.I didnt leave one and i was told the day i was there the tech had already left .. to come back and do it.. and please have yur staff ask the patient to verify what test they are doing so they dont do the wrong ones.. uroflo or dynamics thank god she did the right one.. staff gets irritated with you when you try to reach out after they give you there emails .. THen why do you give me an email if you dont want to communicate that way.. Although dr. Nelson does do excellent work, the team which surrounds him does not. I had a vasectomy performed on April 7th at Arizona state urology and was told the cost included a sperm count after the procedure to verify that the vasectomy was indeed effective. I was told that there would be a follow through and that I would be called/summoned for a sperm sample. I was never called. Finally , I decided to call them to see what was going on. As it turns out..the cost did not include the sperm count"when they clearly said it did" And I've also received an additional bill by mail for over 100$.. Bringing the total cost over 1000$. I feel I was mislead, and all though dr. Nelson was not directly responsible for this, you are responsible for the company you keep. I called 3 weeks prior to making appointment and all forms were emailed to me. Once appointment was made they explained, in detail, billing procedure and steps taken during procedure. Once the big day arrived the office was busy but I was seen on time and only had to sign a few forms. Procedure went great and there have been zero issues. Dr. Nelson and is staff were fantastic. Dr Nelson seemed great for a few years, then after one routine litho my wife was in excruciating pain after. She was rushed to the emergency room not to long after coming home to find out he actually missed the stone and blew the kidney causing hemorrhaging.
