We were a little disappointment through. When we made the reservations back in March we had a choice of several sites. I asked for her recommendations for the best river site. She recommended R6 and it looked great on the map. When we arrived he told us R6 was not a great site and needed work. I'll say so......look at my photos of site R6. So we ended up across the street and down a few sites. See map in photos I attached. It was a mud pit even on the dry days. No grass or privacy. I asked if any of the concrete pad sites were available as I would pay to upgrade but he told us they were sold out. (However the one across from us was empty our entire stay.) The staff was very helpful and friendly. Not the fault of the campground but the family in the cabin by the river had a small dog that started barking at 6:30am through the day. It was annoying seeing them sit there next to the dog and let it bark.

We opted for the upgraded tickets with meal service (afternoon tea), and we loved it! - The actual experience at the station was smooth, and the conductors were upbeat and friendly. - The three course meal, which was handled by a local cafe (Cafe Mornings), was tasty and filling, and the two people who handled service were warm, welcoming, and friendly. Things to note: - Not sure if this is is how it works for all rides, or even if there will be different routes available, but FYI, this was essentially the same route ( out and back), done twice (so the same actual route 4x). - There were no restroom facilities available during the ~2 hour ride, but what they did was return to the station at about the halfway mark, at which point people could debark to use the facilities and then get back on. Overall, this made for a great mother-daughter outing, and I would gladly recommend this dining and sightseeing experience to anyone looking for something a little different for a future outing in the Catskills.

There are great bathroom and shower facilities that the folks come through and clean daily. The spots aren't too close to each other but depending on where you end up being, you might be hidden away or you could have a couple next to each other for a friend gathering. The only downside I had was that we had a family that had a few sites up by the bathroom and the kids were just running around... you could also hear them watching a very loud movie at night and their dogs barking. But that's hopefully just a one-off situation. It was a beautiful weekend, and we cooked out on the fire pit each night.

I'm giving this 4 stars because it's a really nice campground. The pluses outweigh the minuses, but…read morethere are some significant minuses. The pluses are that it's very pretty, and though it's beside a small lake or large pond (not sure which), it's not buggy. There are two distinct parts of it separated by a road. We stayed in the part next to the water. This is nicer in that the sites were more spacious and the rushing water was pleasant, and it's in a stand of huge pine trees, but the big minus is that it's far away from the only bathroom with running water and flush toilets. So far away that if you have dishes to wash or small children who can't walk that far a few times a day, you've got to drive. The compost toilet is within walking distance but there's no sink and it's only one toilet. The people who work there are nice (one of them helped me get air in my car tire), and it's low-key, unlike some other reviews of NY state campgrounds, the rangers didn't go nuts with their authority. No bears, too, a huge plus for me. Another minus is that it's a lot of driving to get there, from pretty much anywhere. It's quite a drive from Roscoe, and also it's a considerable drive to the two nearest towns, Walton and Downsville. But I have to say this was one of the prettiest and most pleasant campgrounds I've been to. The water from the spigots is spring water, so it was excellent. Loads of frogs, salamanders, birds (water birds too), so the kids were entertained. If you are a serious birder and camp, this is a good one for you. There's also a tiny beach to go swimming at, and kayaks and canoes to rent.

The resort is nestled in the Catskills surrounded by lush greenery and the smell of nature. The property is beautiful, very clean, and has that cozy modern woodsy aesthetic. It's perfect for a weekend getaway or if you just want to escape in nature for a couple of days. On the map the property looks huge, but everything is pretty quick to walk to. Our room was so lovely, and there is no TV which really gets you to be disconnected. There is a huge pool, with floaties and a truck side bar which was closed but is open on the weekends. There's also a sauna and gym which is overlooking the views of green hills. There is a nice lounge/communal area next to the cafe/reception where you can hangout and play all sorts of board games and have a nice drink. Outside there is also a covered area with a ping pong table, giant jenga, and connect 4. Each night they have a fire pit, weather permitting with smores. One of the nights it was raining so sadly no fire pits for smores, one of the staff members was so kind to heat up some smores for us and some other guests and it was nice to just have that little treat to make up for the weather. You can explore the beautiful grounds, where on a short walk across the road is their barn where they host weddings, a large pond, and if you walk further down you'll find yourself next to a stream. All the staff were so friendly and accomodating. I imagine it's more busy on the weekends especially when their pool bar and on site restaurant is open. It was a magical place. Can't wait to come back again.

Callicoon Hills is a property that appears to have been designed for Instagram before it was…read moredesigned for guests. And frankly, once you get there, the instagram photos just look like dupes. We booked a stay expecting an elevated Catskills getaway based on the property's marketing, pricing, and branding. Instead, we arrived at what felt like a hotel that was not ready to be operating at the level it advertises. Our room showed visible signs of unfinished renovation, including unpainted wall patches where fixtures had been removed, remnants of painter's tape, damaged paint on the door, and a bathroom barn door that would slide open on its own. The room was aesthetically minimalist to the point of being impractical (but not even that cute), with very little surface space and a surprising lack of outlets. The larger problem was the number of amenities and experiences that were unavailable or poorly executed. We were informed after check-in that dining service would be significantly limited due to a soft opening. The pool was not operating. Weekend yoga was unavailable despite being marketed. Parts of the property contained boxes and visible signs that preparations for the season were still underway. None of this was communicated before arrival. The food experience was equally disappointing. There was no vegetarian dinner option during our stay, which is difficult to understand at a hotel catering to a NYC weekend crowd. Breakfast was slow, and bad to the point of almost inedible. Even small guest-facing details reflected a lack of attention. For example, the s'mores were oddly restrictive, short on supplies, and featured marshmallows that were so hard they were difficult to roast. What made the experience particularly frustrating was that many of these issues seemed entirely avoidable. Weather is outside a hotel's control. Failing to communicate unavailable amenities, opening before operations are fully ready, and charging premium prices for an incomplete experience are not. The entire stay felt like a triumph of branding over hospitality. While the property photographs well from the right angle and with much moved out of the frame, far fewer aspects of it function well.

Also, there's no cell phone service which helps there. Every campsite has a fireplace (with a grill over it) to make a campfire and cook if you want to. There's a big, pretty lake within walking distance that you can take a hike around. There's a "beach" on one side with some sand over the dirt that you can go swim at if it's warm enough. You can rent canoes or bring kayaks. There's a great big playground with swings and some fun slides and other things in the middle of the campsites by the bathrooms. That all combines to have made this place a lot of fun for us and two other families to get together and do a combined getaway the last two years. It's one of the most fun trips we do each year as a family. The only possible downsides are: 1. The rangers are pretty serious about noise after hours. Even though we were the parents with sleeping kids that might be woken, up we got asked to keep it quieter when quiet time hit. Still, maybe that's missed blessing for those of us who do have kids that we need to sleep. 2. The only showers are a long-ish walk or drive down to the main building by the beach. Usually, we go for little enough time that we just don't worry about it though. Definitely a great spot to go for a long weekend with kids.

Little Pond is a little gem in my opinion. We stayed at site #7 which is on a dead end road overlooking a beautiful field where we saw deer everyday. They are decent for a camping shower. What I liked was the ADA/Handicapped trail that went around the lake. it was a mile so my friends and I would walk it a few times a day. I am recovering from ACL surgery so I couldn't hike any of the other loops they offered. They were very vigilant about food being left out, but if anyone has ever camped before you know that's the norm. They were a bit extreme with what could be left out. For example you cannot leave out dish detergent, washing bins, citronella candles, beverage containers etc. I would highly recommend this location !
