Since moving to Toronto, I miss Pasta Genova deeply…read more They have some of the very best focaccia anywhere, which alone is enough to recommend them. But they also have nearly peerless homemade pastas (of which the smoked paprika linguine is my favourite, though they often only make it by request), spectacular prepared sauces, and regular specials on essentials that will get you things like premium olive oil or balsamic vinegar* at supermarket prices. * Genova is one of the few places I've regularly found a variety of pure, aged balsamic vinegar free from sulphites. AWESOME. So, here's some tips: 1) They ONLY TAKE CASH, no exceptions. I once witnessed a woman curse them out for this fact and declare she'd tell all her friends not to shop there; when she left, everyone in the tiny shop, myself included, burst out laughing, and one of the guys declared "we can barely keep up with the customers we have, we don't need her!". Very jovial, and they took her bitch-fest so perfectly in-stride they could give lessons on how to turn the other cheek. 2) If you need a quick lunch, pick up a focaccia sandwich -- they're about $4 if memory serves, with salami, lettuce, tomato, and mustard, and they're fantastic! If you want to suddenly realize you're hungry, walk down Wellington around 11:00am for the wafting glory of baking focaccia and just try to resist the pull. 3) When ordering pasta instead of ordering by weight, order by serving size. Say things like "I'm having a dinner party for six, four big eaters and two regular", and they'll give you an incredibly accurate amount of what you need, plus a little extra (because people WILL want seconds, believe me!). 4) Their homemade calabrese olives are out of this world good. They use a puree of oil-marinated chilis, oregano, fennel (I think), and oil, and very, very good sun cured olives... and damn, these things are so good I eat them until I hurt. 5) Ask what's on special, or if they have any leftovers. I've scored half servings of pasta, day old (but still delicious) focaccia, and nearly expired but still awesome cheese for cheap. Finally, I'll also mention that the staff here are fabulous -- very nice people who greet with a smile, always bid a good day, and work diligently to help provide you with exactly what you need to hit a homerun with whatever it is you're cooking. Only downside: Toronto Maple Leaf fans. Egads!

I came here a few years ago on a girls trip and have been thinking about the pizza here ever since!…read moreSpecifically the Nona Mela pizza, which has apple butter, roasted garlic, cheddar, caramelized onions, and blackened chicken. Normally I would never get this type of pizza as I love a red sauce, but this was recommended by one of my friend's friends so we tried it. And I'm so glad we did! This pizza is amazing and the flavours are prefectly balanced. Fast forward to this year, I was on a road trip with my husband and my dog and I just HAD to have this pizza again. We ordered the Nona Mela and the Citta pizza (the Citta has prosciutto and brie), and they were both delicious! The Nona Mela was especially good, and my husband agreed that it was a lot better than what he expected. We couldn't finish the two pizzas between us, so we brought the leftovers home and reheated it two days later. Somehow, the pizza was even better than the day of! We actually ordered an extra Nona Mela to bring home to one of my friends who was on the girls trip a few years ago, as she also has been thinking of this pizza. That's how good it is! The pizza is on the pricier side though, but very worth. We sat on the patio since we had a dog and the waiters/waitresses were very nice and gave my dog a water bowl.

I've…read morequite literally been craving the fried calimari for years now with those fried capers and lemons. So excited to see it was still there on the menu. We made a reservation a few days ahead just incase. We were only going to be in town for a day and had no ideas if it would be busy. Given we were here for a weekend, we figured it's safest to put in a reservation. I ordered an Orange Grove (non-alcoholic) which has Juniper gin, Bella Aperitif, orange & lemon juice and infused Mighty Leaf Ginger Twist tea syrup. It was so refreshing and delightful! Absolutely gorgeous flavour that tastes like really fresh clementine juice. We got a dozen East Coast oysters to enjoy. Each were beautifully plump, fresh, and a lovely flavour. The accompanying classic shallot mignonette and horseradish were fantastic. For mains, I actually ordered the fritto misto di mare appetizer. It has fried shrimp, scallops, calamari, lemon and caper berries with caper-tarragon aïoli. I don't know if you're meant to eat the lemons and carpers too but I did and it was so delicious. Please never take this off the menu. My partner ordered the gnocchi with beef cheek ragù, truffle and parmesan. Gnocchi were huge and a lovely texture. Delicious ragu that felt very comforting. I'm excited to be back on our next Kingston visit!

They have a rather large patio of about 5-6 tables and about 10 or so tables inside. Their menu has plenty of selection, with your typical Italian appetizers, sandwiches, pasta, and pizza. I opted for the Seafood Linguini for $23. It was rather nice with a good batch of shrimp, scallop and mussels which were all cooked well. I went with the garlic cream sauce as it fits the seafood style a bit better IMO but you can also go with a marinara sauce as well. The sauce was very cheesy and tasty. Very good stuff! Service was good and overall atmosphere is nice in the place. Pretty far from downtown and I'd say doesn't directly compete with the likes of Olivea and Casa Domenico as those seem a bit more upscale but Go Italian is a solid choice when you're craving Italian in the area.

We scoped out a few places and landed here for a change from the typical pub vibe, Italian pasta joints around the corner, or chains like Jack Astor's. We beat the lunch crowd, arriving just before 2 PM. Service was great--we were seated immediately and ordered a few tapas: some roasted Brussels sprouts and a selection of meat options including Persian BBQ lamb, achiote grilled chicken, and sticky pork ribs. The chicken was my least favorite, though it wasn't bad. Everything else was absolutely delicious and flavorful. I'd really like to come back another time for proper drinks--they have an impressive wine list and a nice selection of sangrias that caught my eye. Definitely worth a return visit if you're passing through Kingston.

We were surprised and said for food, to eat. She asked if we had reservation and seemed disappointed when we did. She seated us and then was our server. She wouldn't serve us, left us without drinks or food orders or anything. The table beside us had great service. We were right next to them and they were checked in on....offered beverages, asked how their food was tasting etc. we were not even given water. We asked a different waiter for help, and when the new waiter asked what we needed I said, kind of everything...water, to be checked in on, to get to order etc. the way the other customers were being treated. she helped us. Then our table wasn't bussed which is weird for a tapas place with lots of little plates and we were not checked on for the whole meal. No drink top ups, no "how is the food tasting", nothing. We felt utterly unwelcome. What the hostess said at the outset when the hostess met us really summarized the whole experience, "why are you here?". We were the only Black customers in the space. Too bad because the food was yummy. I have celiac disease and had chosen this place for their menu and gluten free options/safety. We should have left. When the bill came she was suddenly friendly and looked encouragingly for me to tip 18% or higher. Would not recommend this racist restaurant.

The pizzas are better options compared to the pastas, although I'd say there are better pizza available in the city like score and wooden heads. The pizzas could use a crispier crust and I find the portion of the pastas a bit too small, as well the flavour fell a bit flat. The sangria and cocktails were 10/10. This restaurant is a great option for special diets. I really appreciate their menu having lots of vegetarian and vegan options and flexibility to modify for gluten and other allergies. Service was great and I find this common across many restaurants in Kingston!
