Atomica serves up a variety of casual Italian eats in a small but cozy restaurant. Overall food was okay! We ordered the rigatoni, lobster risotto, funghi pizza, and the attuno pizza. The pizzas are better options compared to the pastas, although I'd say there are better pizza available in the city like score and wooden heads. The pizzas could use a crispier crust and I find the portion of the pastas a bit too small, as well the flavour fell a bit flat. The sangria and cocktails were 10/10. This restaurant is a great option for special diets. I really appreciate their menu having lots of vegetarian and vegan options and flexibility to modify for gluten and other allergies. Visited Kingston on the way back from Quebec City. Was good to be back after graduating! Ordered The Cure Pizza (25). This is kind of like your meat lovers pizza with lots of salami, ham, italian sausage and bacon. The pizza is huge. Almost couldn't finish it just because there's a ton of dough and meat. Taste wise, it's decent. If it was just based on food I would give it a 4 stars easily. However, the order just took very long. Waiting almost 45 minutes to get our food was not very ideal. Pros: huge list of fun and delicious cocktails, wood fired pizzas which you can watch get made, generous and unique toppings available, pizza is thin crust and not greasy, ambience is cosy and fun. Cons: we got seated by a high-traffic doorway leading to the kitchen and bathrooms and constantly had people swiping by us- not really a great spot to have a table TBH. Also, not a ton of variety to the menu so would really only recommend if you're looking for pizza and cocktails. Overall, a lively downtown restaurant perfect for a night on the town be it a date night or a friends' night out. Would come here again (requesting a different table) and would recommend. read more

Looking for a vegetarian option in Kingston and we stumbled across Atomica - so many great vegetarian and vegan options, and the menu wasn't just two things that were vegetarian. It was carefully curated to appeal to carnivores and veggies alike. We had a pizza with spicy tofu 'sausage' and loved every bite, with some cold local brews to wash it down with. Service was friendly and relatively quick. My husband is going to try and re-create the tofu sausage at home and we will def come here the next time we're in Kingston. read more

This is one of our top 2 Italian places in Kingston. We really love the salads and pastas, although the specialize in pizzas. A few noteworthy dishes over the past few times we've been here: - GET the fungi pizza. So creamy, so earthy, so good. - GET the orchiette pasta - especially if you like bitter things. I love the bitter green veg in this dish. - GET the caesar - nice and garlicky, with ample amounts of bacon. This place has really good food and a cool vibe. Took it on a complete whim, and without any planning. Walked in pretty early, 5ish before a movie) and got seated immediately. Table bread came with local olive oil and vinegar, which was pretty good. The menu is split up into tapas, larger plates and pizzas, as well as a vegetarian/vegan section. We got a few tapas and they were delicious. Sweet potato hummus was alright, nothing to write home about. The tofu bao was great though. "Buttermilk" fried tofu with a slightly spicy ranch, pickles and lettuce on soft fluffy bao buns. Awesome. Arrancini was good, again just good, but something I always have to try. Wish it was hotter. Finally, the bruschetta was pretty good. Not the best I've ever had but not bad by any means. Overall, great vibes, good food and I will be returning to try the cocktails. read more

I have been a fan of Atomica since they opened. Their pizzas and salads are always fantastic (though lately, their 2 Bao options have lured me away from pizzas). Their cocktails are thoughtful and well balanced, and the service is great. This week there was a mixup in our take-out order and they were fast and gracious in their response. This is one of the true gems of downtown Kingston. The vibe is cool (for Kingston) with a mix of ages, fast pace, and interesting lighting. read more

Great for pizza, or appetizers and a signature cocktail. Sleek, modern decor which also captured the historic atmosphere of Kingston. It was not busy when we went and our waitstaff were attentive, enthusiastic and friendly. Highly recommended: signature cocktails, pizza margherita and diavolo hawaiiani, and the amazing Grilled Calamari. However, appetizer sizes run to the smaller scale, so think twice before sharing the excellent calamari. Came here with a group of six last Friday night. We had a reservation, but had to wait 15+ minutes in line in the doorway as there was only one hostess and she was busy talking to many other people in line (without a reservation) telling them they had no tables available and the bar was full. This has happened to us before, so I wish they would get maybe two hostesses on weekends, as there are usually MANY walk-ins that they don't have room for (it's a SMALL restaurant). By the time we got up to the hostess, she looked irritated and was about to blurt out that there was no room for us, but I said "um, we have a reservation". She sheepishly led us to our table... I must say, the meals took a substantially long time to be delivered to the table (we ordered all pizzas and one vegetarian dish). It took close to an hour. The waitress brought out bread for the table, but other than that she did not come back to ask if anyone wanted a refill on their drink, or to refill the water. We had to flag her down to ask these basic things. I ordered the "Mela e Brie" pizza (apple butter, brie, speck, pear. walnuts) and it was amazing! The food here is divine. We will return here as the pizza is top notch, however I really wish they would put more pride and effort into their hostess/wait staff to really make it a great OVERALL experience, not just delicious pizza. read more

Definitely one of the best two pizza places in Kingston (I would say the best). Atomica vs Woodenhead's: Atomica tends to have better crust, which I'm a sucker for, so I lean towards Atomica. That being said, Woodenhead's tends to be more consistent with their toppings, so that you can feel safer ordering anything on the menu. I typically am all about the classic margherita, which Atomica does beautifully, with a better crust than Woodenhead's, so that's how they got me. Atomica also has a lovely "Katrina" pizza, but the Mela e Brie was underwhelming for what it was trying to do. Overall, I can't make promises for the consistency across different pizzas, but for the staples that I know and love I would go back to Atomica's any day. read more

We waited for over an hour for our food. The server told us it was going to be 25 minutes and then just left and avoided us for an hour with no update. Pizzas came, cold, dry, and each (we ordered 3) and they only put toppings in the middle. There was literally three inches of crust. Server came over, asked us how it was, didn't wait for a response, and then said, "good? Great." And walked away. The service was horrible. I had been meaning to give this place a try for a while and I am glad I did. I thought that the overall ambiance of the restaurant was really nice! It was a smaller restaurant so you can quite literally see them making the food right in front of you which is cool. I ordered the risotto balls and the Italian job pizza which was great! The risotto balls were super flavourful and came in a nice tomato sauce (I mean, how can you go wrong with deep fried risotto). The pizza was pretty good, but not the best - definitely not authentic Italian but it was good nonetheless. The staff were super nice and set up a nice birthday tiramisu for my friend that was also really tasty. Overall we had a really nice time and will be back soon! read more

Basically a high end pizza joint, we ate out on the patio on a Sunday evening, around 7 on the way home from Prince Edward County. We tried the polenta fries - loved them. We split an Atomica Pizza and a Caesar Salad, which was perfect between the two of us. Enjoyed both. Waitress was attentive, décor was sort of futuristic with paneled lights in a purple-pink tone (going from memory - yikes - hope I got the color right). Atomica is a favourite location in downtown Kingston. Most recently I was in with a few friends for the winterlicious promo they were running (but I never need an excuse to come here). The GF pizza crust is what I always opt for, and they do a great job making a pizza that is tasty and delicious. I was extremely impressed with the ceasar salad; I'd consider it a must-order item if you haven't tried it before. To top dinner off, the house-made gelato and sorbetto are outstanding. Great atmosphere, nice location, wonderful service but salty salty pizza. Strangely, dining in Kingston can be tough - you have premium upscale, fast casual chains, and studenty places. Atomica tries to thread the needle between the first two but kinda falls flat. The menu is quite limited - four pastas, a few appetizers and then a spate of pizzas. But the pizzas were very average - oily, salty, gummy, overly cheesed. When 75% of your menu is pizza, you really have no room for error. Might as well pay a little more and go to Woodenheads (or next door to the Black Dog for fanced-up pub food), or hit a Saigon Delight and save 40% on your meal. read more

We enjoyed dinner on the patio this past weekend. The cocktail and wine list were good. Food was tasty. We shared a sausage pizza and some fried olives. The pizza was sold as spicy but I didn't get much kick. It was good regardless, but I could have used a bit more sauce and a bit more seasoning. The olives were very good. Sorely disappointed...had such high hopes given it was one of the most hyped restaurants when I was studying in Kingston. The ingredients in the paella felt put together haphazardly. The braised chicken, calamari, and piri piri shrimp were bland and uninteresting as though they were thrown in as an afterthought. The rice itself was on the soggy side and the parsley garnish added no additional fragrance to the dish. That said, the atmosphere was fairly comfortable and inviting, and our server was nice. =) So, come for the vibe...try the food but definitely avoid the paella. Oh right, my girlfriend ordered the Funghi Carbonara, which she thought "was on the salty side and the pasta was a little soft. The sauce is runnier than your usual carbonara so it felt less heavy which can be a plus depending how hungry you are". We were super excited to visit this place, especially considering the plant based menu, but overall a pretty average experience. The bao buns were the highlight of the menu for us, but the cannelloni arrived cold and was a little disappointing. The toppings on the fungi pizza were delicious, but they tasted like they were served on a store bought base. A shame because it could have been a lot better. Service was slow and not very friendly. A group of 7 of us went mid-week in the evening, seemed to be after their dinner rush. We had called ahead to make reservations. The food was enjoyable. Thin-crust pizza appears to be their specialty. Some of my companions had their pasta, which they liked. There was an extensive wine list. The service was friendly, but very slow. It took almost an hour to get a table, even with our reservation. They were nice enough to reimburse us for the first round of drinks; but it still took us more than three hours to get out of there. If we were a larger group, or had not called ahead, or were there on a busier night, I would have an easier time accepting that. Everything was good, it just took an extremely long time. I don't think I'll be rushing back. EDIT: In fairness, I've since talked to a few other people I know who have gone there in smaller groups and who had no problems with wait time. I love Kingston like a fat kid loves cake. I keep coming back for more, even though everyone tells me that I shouldn't. And for me, Atomica really fits the Kingston vibe -- cosy, small-town, warm, but with a little bit of chic and edge. It's a pizza 'bar' that serves, in addition to pizza, pasta and panini as others have mentioned. The pizza is pretty decent -- it's very thin-crust, and there are TONS of options. My friend got the Atomica, which was below expectations. The peppers were too spicy, and the olive oil was more doused than sprinkled -- seriously, the pizza was WET and my friend had to use her cutlery. =/ I ordered the Anatra, which was sweet and savoury all in one! It contained cocoa and honey, with strips of duck on top. Just perfect, especially now that I've developed a sweet tooth (and a fear of cavities). The pizzas are also large, like a fat kid. Even I know it's unhealthy, the thinness of the crust makes you want to eat more. I could barely finish 4 of my 6 slices. Well worth it! Finally, my other friend ordered a small linguine. Waiter: "Here's your small pasta." Friend looks at pasta: "... oh." Yeah, it was small. But it was also very delicate and the flavours are great, and the sauce really fills you up so that in the end, she couldn't even finish the small pasta! I mean, she had a slice or two or three of pizza too ... but the point is it was good lol! And that fat kid who loves cake? He actually ate at the table next to us -- and he used HIS HANDS(!) to stuff the cake into his mouth. Whoever said Atomica was "dressy" was way off base. I was initially attracted to this place because of it's modern interior and cozy atmosphere. The entire backboard behind the bar is light up with (slowly) changing colored lights, which really creates a nice romantic atmosphere (don't worry, it's not like you're in a club). This restaurant specializes in handmade thin crust pizzas, but also serves pastas, paninis, and salads . Because of the extensive wine list and gourmet ingredients (prosciutto, spicy salami, etc.), you don't feel as though you're just eating in some jazzed up pizza joint. In fact, this is one of the few places where my thin crust pizza wasn't soaked in grease. So many times I've picked up a slice of pizza and had the topping flop over and fall off because the crust had been soaked in grease. Even the crust the next day (yay for doggy bags) was completely dry. My only complaint was the washroom. I'm guessing that there wasn't much space to work with when they built the restaurant, because let's just say that every time you stand up from the toilet (in the woman's bathroom) you'll bang into the sink. I suppose if you drink too much alcohol and feel sick while using the washroom, you'll be able to do both at once. That's a bonus, I guess? Despite the strange bathroom arrangement, this is a good restaurant! And definitely one of the better restaurants in all of Kingston. read more

Right next door to chien noir, this is their sister restaurant, laid back, you've got a solid line up of three P's, pizza, pasta and panini. The strong suit is the pizzas which come in a number of interesting varieties. I'm a fan of the bella or prima data. Not as busy as next door or Woodenheads, you really can't go wrong in coming here. The pizza itself was mediocre-- we shared the Atomica pizza and the crust came out burnt. Service and food was VERY subpar. Was fairly disappointed since I've seen good pictures from this place. Pictures can lie. We went in a group of 12 on a Thursday night. It wasn't too busy. There were a few empty tables. The place is small to begin with and had 3-4 servers working that night. There were two girls standing around the whole time just chatting by the computer. Waving them down was close to impossible. Every so often they would walk around, but still ignore us. I came later after the groups at down and it took me a good 20 minutes to order. I asked one girl who appeared to not be in uniform (maybe a hostess) if I could order and she told me that she would find our server. I waited another 10 minutes. I got impatient and asked another server. To my surprise, she went back to this hostess? and told her my order. The hostess/girl not in uniform ended up punching my order in.. Why did i have to go through all that hassle to get an order in? The food took forever to come so we had to ask for more bread. We overhead the servers whispering and mumbling about us. We didnt hear the beginning, but the ending we heard CLEARLY and in a sarcastic tone one of them said "AND THEY WANT MORE BREAD!" HOW RUDE. The service was VERY unenthusiastic with a forced fake smile the entire time. Now finally onto the food.. The pizzas that my friends had ordered all looked bland. Yes there was color but other than colors it had nothing else.Toppings were subpar, and did not really fill the whole pizza. My bruschetta came on SOGGY bread. It appeared to have been toasted maybe a WHILE ago. I had a prosciutto, gorgonzola, arugula, fig jam bruschetta. The fig jam was tasty at first by soon became too overpowering. It made the whole bruschetta too sweet, taking flavour away from the prosciutto. I was fairly disappointed. The whole experience was a disappointment. I will not be back, nor will I recommend this place to my friends. Unless you want sub-par food and service that CLAIMS it is French/Italian, i would not recommend this place. read more

A good restaurant, but a bit disappointing given that the same company owns Le Chien Noir and Harper's, which are both first in their class. I had the lunch spaghetti bolognese, which was smaller than the dinner portion. I could tell that they added the red wine reduction too late into my sauce, as the alcohol had not fully evaporated away yet. Atomica - you make delicious thin crust, wood-fired pizza. And, the chilli oil that represents the pizza, if you are so inclined to try it, is not only made there, it's da Atomic bomb! (too much?) I went here twice in one week. Let me count the ways as to why. The ingredients are fresh, everything is made to order, and the wait time is a breeze. My first time around, I tried the Bistecca pizza at my sister's errr I mean my server's suggestion. The Gorgonzola cream threw me for a loop. Not only was it heavenly, but its marriage to the flatiron steak was perfection. Upon my second venture, I tried the Atomica pizza, which was a lil spicy, a lil meaty, and a whole lot scrumptious. Lastly, let me talk briefly about the wine list since I don't mind some vino whenever possible! You can choose between Italian and Not Italian. Whatever you decide to drink to, you won't find it hard to pick a glass or bottle that's to your liking. There are too many options - it does have "Wine Bar" attached to its name for a reason.
