Walking in we were excited. Small place but nice. We liked the salsa and the waitress. They are only wine margaritas which If I would have know I probably wouldn't have gone to begin. I love my good margaritas. The food. We ordered lobster, skirt steak and chicken tacos. NO Bueno! The food was horrible. Honestly, I don't understand how there are so many great reviews. If you want Ortega tasting Mexican then you found your place. Otherwise, I suggest staying clear. On a funny note... we paid but didn't finish eating. The waitress said you should have told me before you paid. We thanked her and paid and tipped as if the food was good because she shouldn't pay for bad food. Just got back from a family trip here in Lake Arrowhead. We stayed in this quaint Air BNB maybe like less than a mile away from Rosalva's. Let's keep in mind that there are not that many options as far as food options go. My family and I saw this little hole in the wall (literally) on our drive back from the snow summit and figured we could give it a try. I mean, when in doubt..ORDER MEXICAN FOOD! :D Lol. Let's talk about the location; it is TINY. They do not deliver so my husband and I came in to pick up our food and there were maybe no more than 8 tables inside (all very close together and felt very tight inside). The place just feels very small. I am 5'8 and I felt as if my head was going to hit the ceiling. Lol. The ladies who work here all all very nice and welcoming. Our food was ready upon arrival and it took about 20-25 minutes for our large order to be ready. The food was OK. There was nothing about it that made it stand out. I got their mojarra frita (deep fried tilapia) which came w/ rice and beans. It was TOO fried. There was barely any meat to eat as it was way to fried and hard. I definitely feel like I've had better. I would rate my plate a 4/10. You are up in the mountains so there is not that much to choose from. Lol. I did not expect the best food I've ever had (LOL). However, I was hoping for better. Would I come again? Probably not. BUT, it did what it had to do to get me full at that particular moment. read more

Been coming up to the lake for over a decade. A usual spot was Hortencias in sky forrest. A few years ago(not exactly sure) this restaurant changed ownership. Last night I ordered my standard 3 item entree. When approaching the desk I told them my name. No hello, no nothing. When the bill was presented it was double. One the phone the guy I spoke to misunderstood and took my order incorrectly. Once we figured out what was take out of the bag, I saw that only 2 items were ready for me. I said where is the 3rd item(chili relleno). That took time to get from the kitchen. Then he said since the bill said the original amount $36 approx. that if it wasn't fix it would come out of his pocket. Odd, I wanted to pay for what I ordered. The worst part was coming back to my place to eat. The food was awful. Tasted bland, very basic ingredients and not enough favor. this 3 item entree should have provided enough food for an adult and a young child and it did not. Sadly we will never return to Rosalvas. read more

We enjoyed a nice dinner here. The Mexican tacos were delicious and hearty. We also had the chicken fajitas and we had to take home half of it because it was so big. The shrimp cocktail was so huge we couldn't eat it all, must have been 1/3 pound of shrimp in there. The margaritas were tasty and large and the pina colada excellent! We came in because we had ordered pizzas next door and were told it would take 45 minutes for us to get our food. We were looking for cocktails and an appetizer to pass the time so we checked out the restaurant we parked in front of. As we were perusing the menu posted by the door, we asked a passing waiter if they served wine or cocktails. They said they had Mai Tais and we were sold. We were served chips and salsa as we sat down. The salsa had a zingy freshness that tastes great. We also ordered some lobster tacos, a pork Mexican taco and a crunchy American beef taco. It's kinda amusing they break down the tacos into Mexican and American versions but I guess they're just making sure you get exactly what you're looking for. The pork taco came on a double layer of soft corn tortillas. The pork was stewed until it had a savory richness that tasted great with some extra salsa and a squeeze of lime. The lobster taco was even better! Served on a double layer of soft corn tortillas with a base of red and green cabbage, diced tomatoes and a generous streak of crema, the lobster chunks seemed to be a composite of some sort, like the surimi krab legs that is made from pollock. It tasted pretty good, regardless. Along with a strong and sweet Mai Tai, that definitely hit the spot for a quick bite. Service was friendly and attentive. As a Hispanic that was visiting a white dominant community, it was nice to know that high quality food and service was provided here ! Rosalva's has the same menu as the former Restaurant that was here (Hortencias) who has since relocated. The food here is just as good if not better than it was, so we keep coming back. The small town cafe atmosphere is still here, and the deserts are very good. Sometimes we will eat somewhere else in Lake Arrowhead, but will save a little room & make the short drive to Rosalva's for the fantastic sopapillas and the Ice Cream Nachos (my favorite)! read more

Great, fresh Mexican cuisine in the mountains. They do have two locations now, the new location is at the"Cliff Hanger" a popular destination in the mountains with beautiful views. Their tacos are great, fresh flower tortillas and you have the "Mexican" or "American" option on the toppings. Go for the Mexican options, fresh and tasty, not loaded with cheese, simply fresh chopped onion, fresh salsa and cilantro. My favorite tacos were the steak and shrimp. The pulled pork was delicious as well just a little heavier. Staff is very friendly and in for the workout, they have to climb a flight of stairs or go down a flight of stairs with the food. drinks, and so on. A real workout from my perspective. One of the manager/server? wouldn't allow To sit on the deck, outdoor seating at a table of our choosing. These are outdoor picnic tables on a 20×30 deck. I asked her why we couldn't sit away,, instead of being cramped up with a bunch of other people in one corner of the deck. Why can't we sit at that table in the Shade? She would not allow us to and was Insisted that we sit at the table that She Chose. This is a small deck there is No difference for her to walk to any of these other tables. It doesn't take any additional time. We left the restaurant and won't come back because of how this server; She appeared to be a manager because she was OK telling the customer where to sit. No employee would do this! They would allow the customer to choose where they wanted To sit within reason. read more

We used to love this place, but it really nose-dived once the cliffhanger Hortencias opened. The food is really meh, and is usually barely warm when served. Even the salsa has declined. Kids meals are ridiculously small. Service is also so much less personal. I cant recommend it anymore. read more

This is just a few steps from the Inn we checked in. Place was vibrant and had a fun vibe. Our server was quick and very efficient with our orders. We ordered the soft tacos- shrimp, Angus beef and lobster... the serving size was big. Hubby ordered the Spanish omelet, it was ok. I preferred the tacos. The Asada fries was huge!
