I had two kids with me (5 and 1), along with a stroller and they thought the best table to give me was one smack dab in the middle near the bar. So that wasn't super comfortable. I've been coming to the Island for 30 years and was excited to try a new spot, but sadly this place is easily the worst I've had. Ordered the Flounder entree and after it finally arrived (after 30-45 minutes) the Flounder was like jerky, the green beans were cold and dehydrated, and the rice was the same. Paid $10 for my daughter's butter noodles that she couldn't eat because they were cold and dry, like chewing leather. Clam chowder was ok. I'm not trying to be dramatic or overstate a poor experience, our entire party just walked away so disappointed. This place is the epitome of restaurants that overcharge for poor food because they have a prime location. If you want a cold beer with some good waffle fries and a great view (and friendly service)- this is your spot. For anything more, don't waste your time or money. So much wasted potential. read more

This place was great for a little beach town that doesn't have much. We went on a Saturday night & they told us our wait would be around 55 minutes but we only waited 30. I got the shrimp scampi and it was so good. We also got the crag stuffed egg rolls and those were spectacular!! This definitely has to be the best place on the island! read more

Each of my experiences at Ropewalk has been good, but not quite great. The food is good and they have different options than most of the other seafood focused restaurants on the island. The Tiki and other mixed drinks are nice too and tend to be well-made. And I like the ample outdoor seating and musicians. I do find the portions a bit small, though, and I think you can find better value elsewhere. read more

We did have great waterfront viewing and sunset views. There was ample staff and the pacing was great. My kids liked drinking out of the small pitchers. The promotional kids meal with frisbee was very much appreciated. I liked the locally themed posters , murals, and oyster cans. Came here for the happy hour deals - $1 oysters and 1/2 priced wings. Our server was nice and attentive and the atmosphere is great here. A ton of seating inside & out. The wings were great! My husband said they were some of the best he has ever had. The oysters tasted good but were so dirty that we had to pick shells and sand out of most of them. The decor was all very clean and welcoming, with friendly staff. We were seated promptly at a dockside booth large enough to fit our large party, including my kids and my nieces. The table was in clear view of the awesome playground area, which was super nice to be able to relax while the kids played. The adults' food was all very tasty, though a bit on the pricey side. The kids meals were served on frisbees, which was a neat feature, but the quality of the kids meals was pretty low when for the price, especially when you consider that kids drinks are not included in the price, which is pretty much unheard of for kids meals. The server was very sweet to the kids and very kind and helpful. Overall, I'd say that Ropewalk is a fantastic place for adults to eat. The kids... maybe order some adult meals to share? read more

We sat at the outside bar during happy hour and were disappointed by the service. We waited a long time for our food and in between drinks, and at times it honestly felt like we were being ignored. The guy next to us was a regular who asked about my husband's entree as it took about an hour to come out. His oyster appetizer took about 30 minutes when asked for more crackers the bartender said okay I have a box right here,15 minutes later I asked a lady behind the bar for them as the bartender totally forgot. What really stood out to me was something very unusual and questionable that I saw behind the bar. The bartender took a completely empty vodka bottle and what appeared to be a full vodka bottle to the corner of the bar. He poured about 3/4 of the full bottle into the empty bottle, put the spout on, and then started pouring drinks. In Maryland, that would be a liquor board violation, and it definitely looked shady. I'm a lightweight, and after two crushes I usually feel relaxed. During this visit, I had five crushes over about 90 minutes and felt like I was drinking water. For a 150-pound female who doesn't drink much, that was extremely suspicious. It really made me feel like they water down their alcohol. Between the slow service, being ignored, and what I saw at the bar, I would not recommend this place for drinks. If you want good drinks, go somewhere else. read more

We stopped at Ropewalk and were really impressed with the views -- absolutely beautiful! The service was fast and friendly. We were told there'd be a 40-minute wait, but we only waited about 20, which was a nice surprise. I ordered the poke bowl, and it was pretty good. Not a ton of tuna, but still tasty overall. My friend got the short ribs, and that's where things went downhill. They definitely weren't braised -- the meat looked like it had been cooked earlier and just reheated. You could see the fat and juices separated on the plate, which wasn't very appetizing. The green beans were a mess. They looked like long, wrinkled green raisins. We asked for fresh ones, hoping it was just a mistake, but they brought out the same exact thing. Great location, solid poke bowl, but the short ribs and sides were a big miss. The ambiance at ropewalk is 10/10! Great spot for a big group. Our family of 9 came here for dinner and we were seated at a big table outside overlooking the bay as the sun went down. Very tropical fun setting, and our server was great! I love that everyone gets their own full pitcher of water with a straw , definitely limits the number of refills needed. The setting feels like it would be standard fried beach bar food, but the quality is definitely a step up from that! They have a variety of options to please a crowd. The shrimp appetizer was probably my favorite thing. So crispy and slightly sweet. And the spinach artichoke crab dip was top tier! Very thick with big chunks of crab which I loved. I got the scallops dish, and although it was good, I definitely had some notes. It needed more of the corn and tomatoes; there were really only a few. And the crab pieces were too small so they blended in too much with the orzo. The dish was flavorful just nothing impressive, although it has a lot of potential. Several people ordered the flounder, which looked a lot better. The tuna tacos looked good too, the seafood salad was definitely a skip though. They have a pretty solid drink menu of crushes which fit the setting, although their cocktails are wayyyy too sweet. I'd probably give the food a 2-3, but the ambiance is so nice which makes it worth going! Probably a better spot for drinks and apps than a full dinner. read more

Tried this place for dinner with the family. I would says it's around 3.5 stars. It's a very average seafood restaurant. Everything was reasonably good, but nothing I would go back for. Had some of the soups, flounder, crab dip and egg rolls. It was a fairly busy and loud restaurant, but our service was fairly prompt and we got our food pretty quick. Overall, if you're looking for a really good meal, especially seafood, I don't think this place is it. If you're looking for a quick place that has something for the kids it's not bad. read more

"As long as I gaze on Waterloo sunset I am in paradise" (The Kinks) Ropewalk was a great place to see the famous Chincoteague sunsets. Ropewalk is also a great place to see if you're a fan of former President Ronald Reagan, because a large statue of the Gipper greets you into the dining room, a bust of Ronnie smiles at you from behind the bar, and you can buy T-shirts of the man on the way out. Ropewalk was a great place to visit on a Monday, because its one of the few places open that day. So those are the high points. Here are the improvement opportunities: There was no one at the hostess station, so another waiting patron journeyed into the dining room to tell the staff there were people waiting to be seated. It took quite a long while for a server to take our order and a long time for the food to come out. We found Ropewalk very loud, with a few bar patrons really yukking it up. The Food: We ordered a Seafood Cobb Salad ($22) for "Field greens topped with lump crab, shrimp, bacon, bleu cheese crumbles, tomatoes and fresh corn served with your choice of dressing". It had a few shreds of crab and zero shrimp. House Salad with Added Chicken ($11 +$8). The chicken was fantastic. Tender, juicy and perfect. Iced Tea ($3.99) served in the biggest glass I've ever seen. It actually was a beer pitcher. Oreo Cheesecake ($7) -Yummy but one of the smallest slices I've ever seen. Conclusion -OK for Monday, pass on the other six days. read more

At first glance this place looked very nice, until you took a bite of the driest and worst halibut I have ever attempted to eat. This was after a 2 hour wait for food. The food was terrible and so was the service. The wings were the color of charcoal too. read more

We just had an early dinner at Ropewalk. It's a nice big open dining room with water views. We both chose the clam chowder and jumbo lump crab cake sandwich. The clams were barely noticeable in the clam chowder. It was weak potato chowder with a few scant bits of clam. Before we were even half done with the chowder, our crab cake sandwiches arrived. That was annoying, as we were trying to eat two hot dishes before either got cold. Now, the "jumbo lump" crab cake was a good size and fried lightly. However, we had to search for any jumbo lumps. There were maybe one or two in the entire crab cake. Just don't call it something it is not. And don't price it that way, either. Our server was very good but the food was not. read more

I'll start with the positive, we had a very friendly waiter and the appetizers were decent. But trust me, it went down hill from there. They brought our appetizers out 3 different times. And then they brought out the food. Four people, four really bland, bad meals. I had the flounder. Horrible. My wife had the mac and cheese w/ crab meat that tasted like a Kraft special. Our son's crab cake was at best of our and that was average at best, and our daughter's scallops were so bad we had to send it back. If you go you probably want to stick to "bar" food. read more

I think this restaurant gets away with being mediocre because of the ambiance and view. Sandy outside seating and palm trees right on the bay? Yes please. But the entrees are "meh" at best. No love put into it. Kinda boring. Like unboxed tv dinners. The orzo and rice are hardly seasoned. Just filler. The fish and chips were 3 small hard balls of fried fish. We should have listened to the other reviewer saying the same thing. I WILL say the appetizers were phenomenal. The ahi tuna sashimi was out of this world and the fried green tomatoes with crab meat? My wife and I came here for drinks (first stop in a night of bar hopping). Very lovely place! It's right on the water and has a great view of sunset, and for that reason, everyone wants to be here. There was at least an hour wait for a table, so like most people, we chanced the bar. At least half of the tables are outside on the sand with a big bar in the middle. There are tall backed bar stools that can be a little tricky to slide in an out and a little challenging to slide around since they want to squeeze as many people at the bar as possible. The drink selection is what you'd expect: a lot of crushes, mules, and tiki/tropical themed drinks. My wife got a mule and I got a crush - they were pretty standard. The bartenders were quick to make sure we got served and to offer us a new drink once we started getting low - nice touch. Maybe next time we'll stay for some food - lots of the seafood offerings look great! read more

Views are great and the playground is a lovely thing for parents on 'vacation' (iykyk). Service on point. Alright, now the bad: the food. Gosh, just go anywhere else. 1. Kids' mac and cheese lunch, applesauce (1 out of 5 stars): $10 This is half of a $0.60 box mac and cheese made exactly in accordance with box instructions and a $0.20 applesauce cup. Thanks for taking the lid off for us! 2. Fish and chips: $23 Fish (1/5 stars) - Resilience is a skill we hardly develop these days. This fish has it FOR DAYS. A tiny 3 oz~ piece of springy tasteless flesh. Oddly, it has the appearance of being well cooked and seasoned, but there is nothing to it. Seriously disappointing. Usually you don't get enough tartar sauce with your fish and chips; here, it's about twice what you'd need for this enlarged fish nugget. A sad experience all around. Chips (aka waffle fries, 3/5 stars) - Quite well cooked, though under seasoned. Seriously, there is no flavor to this stuff. And the portion sizes here are just wayyyy too small for what you pay and especially for these, the best thing in the entire meal-- maybe I had ten fries? 3/5 stars is accurate. Coleslaw (2/5 stars) - tiny cup, tastes more like the idea of coleslaw than actual coleslaw. I could actually eat three of these in one sitting if it wouldn't cost me $70. 3. 1lb steamed shrimp: $31 Shrimp (2/5 stars) - If you find yourself in Warrenton, VA on a Sunday afternoon, you absolutely MUST go to Northside 28 for their $5 Chesapeake bloody mary. The shrimp it comes with puts these Ropewalk steamed shrimp to shame, plus you'll get about a gallon of bloody mary. Now THAT is embarrassing! No sides, no drink, just a small metal bucket of unseasoned shrimp. Left with hunger and regret. Don't fall for it. read more

Initially sat bar table for happy hour. Ordered nothing at table. Within 10 minutes seats opened up at bar and we move. Ordered two Key Lime crushes, took 15 minutes and were a 4/5. Then ordered wings app BBQ, after 25 minutes we asked about wings, were told they were taken to table were at originall. Waited 20 minutes for new order. Something must have happened to this location in the past few months and not in a good way. I have had similar experience as some of the reviews before me.... My husband and I had lunch after arriving to the Island. We were seated upstairs with beautiful views of the water. I wish I could say that we enjoyed the rest of the experience. The waiter was friendly but not attentive. He was gone for 15-20 minutes before our order was even taken. Took another 20 or so for him to come back for the check. Regarding the food - The orange crush tasted like watered down OJ. I ordered the Banda Bing Shrimp App ($15) - I have to say it was probably the worst I have had anywhere. Obv had to be frozen, tasteless and so much batter on the shrimp, which were the size of half of my pinky finger. I had to peel the batter off to find the shrimp. My husband ordered the fish and chips. That was like the previous review, a slab of fish deep fried to dark brown and just eh. I wish I could say that I enjoyed the view and drink enough to compensate but sadly it was not worth it. One good side, the oysters were good - but how can you really screw up an oyster when it comes out of your waters. Also to note, there were two employees who were throwing boxes into the storage closet and laughing about it. For a good 20 minutes, with the door open and continued stocking the storage room by throwing large boxes in haphazardly. If the organizational structure of this restaurant looked anything like that storage closet that tells me everything. Don't waste your time or money here. Plenty of other nice places to eat. I do hope management is reviewing the comments and taking these complaints into consideration for improvement. read more

They would not allow the three of us to do separate checks but told us we could pay separate when the check came, So when it came time to pay we tried to charge each card for the amount of items we had and she said she could only split it 3 ways. but when the check came, we could split the one check three ways. The food took forever to come and it was ok but nothing to brag about. The experience left us to remember we will not be returning to that kind of unnecessary, frustrating experience!! read more

So I Mac n cheese but with blackened chicken instead of seafood.. Horrible. Have come here before and the Mac n cheese was out of this world. But this time they brought it and I swear the sauce was watery and tasted like the Alfredo sauce that the blackened chicken is usually with. So I asked them to double check and they took it back and remade it. Brought it out looked the same. Tasted the same. Watery and flavorless. The chicken was the only flavorful part. Usually it's 1000/10 but this time idk what was up... on the other hand my man got the Delmarva burger and ts was so so so good! Also don't get the crabecake egg rolls. 4+ stars is more representative of Ropewalk. This is a great outdoor bar-oriented restaurant on the water with great views. Most of the tables are on sand. Some people complained about flies, but we went at the end of the season. My wife had fried green tomatoes which she enjoyed. I had Jerk Chicken which was moist and very flavorful. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. The service was very friendly. The live music made for a fun evening with good food and drinks. read more

We thought it was for a local ad or something, he comes back asking if we wanted one of the printouts and then told us after the fact that we had to pay. Quick service. I was a little disappointed in the burger. While there were plenty of waffle fries, the $16 burger was a frozen patty on a hard bun. Seems to be more disappointing each time. Conflicted music between the live outside and recorded indoor with all doors and windows open. Slow service. Not one person asked "how is/was everything? How is your meal?" Salad from a bag, with tomato and cukes is $12. I added salmon that took it to $35. What was unexpected was how DRY the salmon was. Mediocre at best for premium price. read more
