I haven't been to Raise but Jess has treated someone I love. I have encountered many therapist and…read morethere are many out there who are clinically sufficient. What Jess brings to the table is something more, which was a genuine concern for my child. On one of our conversatios she said " I went on this run and I was thinking about"... she was thinking about my kid and how to help. She made me feel like we ( we because as parents, things that affect our kids affect us) were "seen." I think more often than not people get complacent in their careers, including the medical or mental health field, which I would chalk up to human nature. However, she never made me feel like my kid was number or just another patient. She was someone going through something and Jess was going to figure it out. We had to stop seeing Jess due to some circumstances out of my control. Which only lead us to a merry go round of therapists and it wasn't until then, that I was able to fully appreciate her, not only for her emotional investment in my child but also for her instincts, which were proven to be spot on. While on that mental health merry go round, I learned that not every therapist has the capability to convey a genuine sense of commitment and concern for their client/patient , however Jess did. Taking on someone else's emotional pain, trauma, anxieties and fears has to be one of the hardest jobs I could imagine, especially when it comes to children...so I can understand having and internal shut off valve and not fault anyone needing to enact that protective mechanism. But as a parent who's child hurts....I sure as shit want someone who sees my kid, as I see them. Once again I saw Jess early in her career. Not only do I magine that she has gotten better with time but I imagine now that she has her own practice, she chooses people who values their clients as much as she does. ...I did recently refer someone here and they had positive reviews about Jess, Teena and the facility.

I am very disappointed with my experience at Lighthouse, particularly with how my concerns…read moreregarding a psychiatric medication were handled. For over two weeks, I repeatedly tried to get a clear answer about whether I could receive a short bridge prescription to get me to an upcoming appointment with a new provider. When it became clear a refill might not be possible, I specifically asked for guidance on how to safely stop the medication. That guidance was never provided. Being left without direction regarding mental health treatment is unacceptable. I chose to leave this practice because I did not feel listened to by Dr. Westbrock. Diagnoses were mentioned without explanation, alternative causes were not meaningfully explored, and my concerns were largely dismissed. When I asked about further evaluation, I was told it would require several additional appointments and approximately $800 in fees, after already paying for the visit I was attending. The process felt more focused on billing than patient care. After securing a new provider, I contacted Lighthouse weeks in advance because I knew I would run out of medication before that appointment. I made it clear that I understood if a refill was not possible and that I was simply asking for guidance. Despite multiple attempts, my requested were ignored by Dr. Westbrock. Even after being told by the medical assistants this bridge refill should have been possible. Lighthouse medical assistants have reached out and apologized on behalf of the team. They stated the issue was with Dr. Westbrock and said that if I wanted a bridge now, three weeks later, they could forward me to the director. I appreciate the medical assistants who attempted to help every time I called. However, this situation should have been escalated to leadership much earlier, and at the end of the day Dr. Westbrock is employed by this office and his actions reflect the office. Overall, this experience left me feeling dismissed and unsupported at a critical moment in my care. The only reason I chose 2 stars instead of 1 was the medical assistants consistently trying their best. It is disappointing they are not listened to by their superiors. I am sharing this so others can make an informed decision when choosing providers.

I started going to this office in 2019 because I was struggling with a mental health crisis. I…read moreworked in a call center and had a lifetime of unresolved trauma. I came from a generation and a family that doesn't believe in mental health. And for those who do, it's heavily stigmatized. My original psychiatrist was great, but she moved to a location in downtown Phoenix. I switched to a different psychiatrist, one who was great with both my children. I switched my son over to her as well because HIS psychiatrist would cancel appointments for no reason and eventually left this location to focus on her own practice. Everything went great for awhile; I was somehow managing my alcoholism, and I was doing my best to function as a human being. Here's where things get sticky: I have health insurance, but it's not going to cover things like ketamine or other treatments my plan deems unnecessary. I didn't have money to cover myself and my kids, nor did I have the means to drive 45 minutes away from Maricopa, 3 days a week, and ditch my job, where my hours were always during the day. I had to make do. When I went to detox in December, I was working a very stressful job, up to 70 hours a week. I messed up by having the police called, and I know this. I am imperfect. But I and other patients weren't given the dignity of being seen as human beings who deserve basic C rights such as clean clothing and facilities. I deserved to be given my medicine, which I was not. When I got out and saw my psychiatrist, she told me I'd I wasn't a drunk, I wouldn't have problem. She told me things my daughter told her in confidence and me she wishes I'd been arrested. She's also gossiped about other therapists who are no longer there. If I'd known her history, I would have found a way to go to downtown Phoenix. I'd have never kept my kids with her. They love her, and that's great. My daughter forgave her because I encouraged forgiveness. But this behavior was devastating to my already low self esteem and recovery. I'm a huge fuck up and I know it. But I am also not going to pay a fortune for a 30-60 day program that my insurance won't cover. They wouldn't even cover my court-ordered stay in detox, or the ambulance service when I was forced to go to Tucson. And her response was always: don't be an alcoholic and you wouldn't have this problem. But I wish you'd been arrested so you can have consequences. Honestly, I'd say find another facility for your psychiatric needs because they'll either help or they won't, but have no problem telling you that you're worthless if you don't use their treatment. Such a shame because they used to be great. And maybe some doctors still are, but no one deserves to be treated like a loser when we already feel that way.

This place was one of the only places that actually called me back when I left a message. They were…read moresuper kind and thorough. Their office is very nice. However, some room for improvement: 1) Don't make people do the new patient paperwork twice. I thought, "great, I can do it online and not have to do it in the office." But then you handed me THE EXACT SAME PAPERWORK I'd already filled out and told me you needed a paper copy. Why??? Such a waste of my time. Pick one please. 2) Don't charge a cancellation fee if I'm cancelling through no fault of my own. My son threw up a few hours before my appointment. Being a responsible citizen, I called to reschedule my appointment, but was informed that I'd be charged regardless. I get why you charge this - you want to discourage willy nilly cancellations. But if someone can give you clear evidence that they are actively sick and can't come in, you really shouldn't be charging them for protecting your wellbeing.

I genuinely don't know how a mental health clinic can operate with so little compassion or…read moreunderstanding for the very people who are reaching out because they are struggling. Over the span of a year, I had an appointment scheduled, which I personally had to reschedule once. The next appointment date came around and the provider cancelled on me, so I rescheduled again. Then, when I finally showed up for another appointment, I discovered that the appointment had been scheduled at the wrong office due to an error made by the front desk. So to be clear, when I was later told I had "three cancellations/reschedules" on my record, only ONE of those was actually a reschedule that I initiated myself. Months later, I called again because I am genuinely struggling with my mental health. My sleep has been affected, my relationships and friendships have been affected, and it has gotten to the point where even my own mother has told me that I need to get help. I was actively trying to do exactly that. I specifically explained that Serenity is one of the only offices that works for me because they are open on Saturdays. I work Monday through Friday in the medical field, so I completely understand that policies exist and that the front desk has to follow them. What I don't understand is having absolutely no willingness to show compassion or make an exception when someone is reaching out for mental health care and explaining that they are genuinely struggling. The person I spoke with told me, without any real understanding or empathy, that they could not schedule me because of my previous cancellations/reschedules. I asked if she could please speak with the provider and see whether an exception could be made. I work in healthcare myself, so I understand that there are circumstances where providers can make exceptions. I wasn't asking her to break a policy herself, I was asking her to advocate for a patient who was actively asking for help! Instead, I was essentially met with a door in my face. Mental health care is not something where you should be treating patients like they are simply missing appointments on a spreadsheet. There is a human being on the other end of that phone call who may already be struggling to find the motivation to ask for help in the first place. And this is exactly why I find this policy so concerning: when the majority of the circumstances being held against me were either **provider cancellations or an office scheduling error**, I should not be treated as though I repeatedly chose not to show up for care. If your specialty is mental health, compassion, understanding, and knowing when a situation warrants an exception should be at the center of what you do. A rigid policy means very little if the people enforcing it cannot recognize when the person on the other end of the phone genuinely needs help. I called because I was trying to get help for myself. I left feeling like I was being punished for circumstances that were not even entirely within my control. If your policies are going to prevent people who are actively struggling from receiving care, I strongly encourage this clinic to reconsider those policies! and, more importantly, reconsider whether the people enforcing them understand the severity of the population they are serving. Btw i work in the medical field at an allergy clinic and make exceptions because I CARE AND WANT to help me patients for something as small as sneezing, this clinic is refusing to help in a life or death situation. Offices who truly care about their patients don't shut them out when they ask for help, I know because i do it for patients ALL THE TIME.

From the first contact, the team created a warm, non-judgmental space where I felt genuinely heard and understood--something I hadn't experienced in previous healthcare settings. The thorough 90-minute assessment felt thoughtful and unrushed; they took the time to explore my history, symptoms, and challenges without making me feel pathologized or dismissed. What stood out most was how validated I felt throughout. For the first time, someone in a professional role acknowledged that my struggles were real, explainable, and not just "laziness" or personal failure. They refuse to treat or even test anyone older than 55 years, even though all other psychiatrists in Phoenix who don't focus on only ADHD. The test for ADHD is not different at any age. They base their claim of not having the skills to treat older people using outdated studies. Here is a link to the latest study and comment from Dr. William Dodson: https://www.additudemag.com/adhd-medication-no-cardiovascular-risk-hypertension-heart-failure/ No one else in Phoenix refuses to treat anyone at any age. The skills required to monitor for side effects are simple, require few skills and are as follows: Routine blood pressure checks and occasional kidney function recommended when increasing the dose of the medication. If the risk for side effects is insignificantly different at any age, do they have the skills to treat younger people when they have the same reaction or complications from the medication? Why don't they accept middle aged to older patients who don't want to take stimulants or just want to take the test? What do they do when a patient of long standing turns 55? Are these patients aware that they may be sent somewhere else, even if they are healthy and stable? If you know of anyone 55+currently being treated at this clinic, was referred somewhere else after they turned 55, or was denied treatment at any age due to complications or being at higher risk, please message me. In conclusion, if it is obvious they do have the skills to treat and monitor patients of all ages, why are they practicing ageism? Beware of specialists with wonderful bedside manners but are known to screen patients based on statistics and chronological rather than biological age, or who may develop mild, easily treatable complications.
