Serving vibrant, plant-based food, this award-winning cafe should absolutely be on your radar…read moreregardless of your dietary preference. The All Day Menu (from 12pm onward) changes seasonally/"from time to time" according to their website, but some recommendations if they have it: Bang Bang Cauliflower and Tempeh Caesar Salad. The reason why I come here though? Off the Breakfast Menu (served until 11:30am), it's specifically for the Monster Veggie Brekky. A plate of food I think about often, if we're being honest. Two sausages, roast portobello mushroom, bubble and squeak, tomatoes, greens, scrambled tofu, toast, and homemade beans. A side of homemade ketchup and brown sauce, an iced Americano, and a seat by the sunny window midweek late morning when it isn't super busy? That's my perfect start to a day in Bath right there. The food is fresh, plentiful, flavorful, and satisfying. And they actually do have certain baked goods and dessert available all day. Just ask. Usually they can accommodate your request. Don't leave here without trying the sticky toffee pudding!

Completely unexpected…read more While visiting Bath we stumbled upon Green Rocket Cafe. It is a cozy restaurant with excellent service from the moment you walk in. The menu has dishes ranging from 6-12 pounds, with an option for everyone. We tried multiple dishes during our visit ( a mistake because the portions are generous) and all were delicious. Each of the dishes we tried was full of flavor and had that homemade feeling. The one downside we experienced is that the food did take a while to be ready, but aside from that if you are in the Bath area, The Green Rocket Cafe is an excellent choice. My Criteria 5 stars: The best food I have ever had, or an excellent option given the price. 4 stars: Good food, a restaurant I look forward to trying again. 3 stars: Good food, a restaurant that I am indifferent to. 2 stars: Below average experience, will not go again. 1 stars: This restaurant should be closed.

BOTTOM LINE: Although the food was great, the service left a bit of a bad aftertaste…read more Located next to the infamous Sally Lunn's, Oak (previously known as Acorn - get it?! - and still listed as such on Yelp) is located in the core area of Bath. It's a small space, and I can't imagine there being space for more than 25-30 diners (or even less), and each table as relatively small in size (more on this later). First, the good part. The food remains the main attraction, and ingredients across the board tasted consistently fresh. Whether it was the HAZELNUT RISOTTO, the ROASTED COURGETTES/ZUCCHINI, the BEETS, or the TOMATO SOUP, I found they were prepared to a high standard. The dishes are meant to be sharing plates, but this can cause some table real estate problems (also, more on this later). But now, the not-so-good part, the comparatively poorer service, especially when compared to similarly-priced restaurants (e.g., Sotto Sotto), or even less (e.g., Sally Lunn, Yak Yeti Yak, etc.), and then the gall to charge a higher service percentage of 12.5%. For example, my group of 5 experienced both the problems of servers removing plates prematurely (when there was clearly uneaten food), but also not removing plates UNLESS requested to do so, despite finished plates being stacked to make room for new dishes. Similarly, beyond the initial ordering of water and drinks, staff didn't follow up on this, and we had to request new water jugs throughout the meal. Finally, although staff atitudes weren't negative per se, they did seem somewhat indifferent/detached. All these points may seem nit-picky, but I think it's not unreasonable to expect better service at these prices. Ultimately, Oak comes up on many recommended restaurant lists, but after this experience, although I'd still recommend it, I wouldn't be too upset if you can't manage to get a reso here given so many other great alternatives.

Absolutely scrumptious vegetarian and vegan dishes that leave you feeling refreshed and satiated!…read moreAs a tapas style, the small plates are well-priced with the recommendation of ordering 2-3 per person and sharing amongst everybody. Note that the restaurant has rebranded to OAK Restaurant with a new website, but still has the same address and contact information. The menu is quite short with only a dozen choices or so, but each dish has the finest quality of ingredients and refined yet light taste. We ordered all the dishes recommended to us by the server and loved each one: - Nocellara olives (£4.75) - Beetroot tartare, smoked almond cream (£8.95) - Heritage tomato panzanella (£8.50) - Black pepper chickpeas, smoked cashew butter, summer greens (£9.45) - Jersey curd agnolotti, hazelnuts, spinach and butter emulsion (£10.75) Dessert was delicious as well: - Stewed plums, brandy ice cream, almond crumb (£8.25) - Dark chocolate and salted caramel tart, mint ice cream (£8.25) The restaurant was not that busy with only a couple other tables filling in after coming in for our Tuesday noon reservation. We were seated at a corner booth next to a window on the ground floor, which had a relaxing breeze coming through. The cost of five open jars of sparkling water was £3. A 12.50% service charge was added onto the bill.

PLEASE NOTE: We ordered delivery from The Stable through Deliveroo…read more I was craving pizza and unsure where to get delivery from, but I really liked that The Stable made their fresh sourdough every morning using organic grains from Gloucestershire (and, actually, many of their ingredients are local). Also, they've got several plant-based options, all of which are clearly labeled on their menu. We got two Vegan Margheritas (currently £11.50) because we had heard the pizzas run a bit on the small side. I'm so glad we did; they were extremely thin and maybe the same size as something found in the frozen food aisle at the grocery store! Underwhelming all around: they were not hot upon arrival, and had absolutely no flavor. We're glad we got one each of the dips (currently £1.75; all plant-based): the garlic-herb mayo and the chipotle mayo being my favorites, the BBQ and burger sauce being my partner's favorite. They honestly did all the work for this meal. I'm not sure I would order delivery from here again. I see they've added some new things to the menu since I've last been, I haven't tried the tots yet (and how can you go wrong with fried potato), and I've never dined inside so... never say never, right?

The vibe was casual, and we got seated right away. Since the portions looked like tapas, we went all out and ordered a bunch of stuff. Here's the breakdown: * Hopper: This seems to be the dish to try. It's made with a fermented batter and coconut milk, served with chutneys. The caramelized onion chutney was good. Solid 4 stars from me. Hubby tried the egg hopper (same thing, but with an egg on top). * Cheesy Colombo: Fried cheese in a saucy mix--it's giving chili paneer vibes, and I was here for it. Another 4 stars. * Kaju Maluwa: Cashews and peas in a coconut curry. Mild, creamy, and tasty! * Sri-tato: Spiced potatoes with onions and masalas. Pretty flavorful--3.5 stars. * Kos Mallun: Jackfruit with chilies, garlic, and onions. It was spicy but not my fave. I'll give it a 3. * Vegetarian Kotthu: Surprise! It has eggs, which they didn't mention on the menu. I didn't eat it, but hubby gave it a 3.5. (Pro tip: If you want vegan kotthu, ask for it specifically!) * Parottha: So good and perfect for scooping up all the curries. For drinks, hubby had the Sriki-tiki, which he thought was just okay. I went for a virgin piña colada, and it hit the spot. The service was decent, but the lighting? So dark. I get that they were going for a moody vibe, but we could barely read the menu or see what we were eating! Better lighting would've made the experience so much better. Overall, it was a fun night of trying new flavors!

Now that I've visited a handful of times, here are my favorites... COCKTAILS 1. Beach Boy (coconut rum and pineapple flavours "exuding warm sunset vibes; a Sri Lankan East Coast surfers fave") - it's refreshing and tropical and goes down way, way too easy. I've tried to replicate it at home and I can't figure out whyyyyyyyy it doesn't taste the same... 2. TCT Smoked Old Fashioned (bourbon, chocolate bitters, infused with smoke, and served over a giant coconut ice ball) - a perfect after dinner sipper! FOOD 1. Plain Hopper (a lacey-like coconut milk pancake served with coconut sambol, caramelized onions, and a Sri Lankan salsa on top) - you have to get one of these when you're here! There are so many delicious flavors and textures going on. 2. Hot Battered Mushrooms (polenta-battered mushrooms mixed with caramelized onions) - these are so rich, and so earthy, and so crunchy on the outside/melty on the inside! Don't eat them straight away, you will burn your mouth. And: DON'T FORGET TO SQUEEZE THE LEMON ALL OVER!!! Seriously, it makes the dish so much more complex and vibrant. 3. Kale & Cabbage Sambol (a fresh mix of kale and cabbage lightly sauteed in coconut oil) - for me, the brightness of this dish makes it a refreshing, lighter, cooler counterpart to the other much heavier foods.
