I got my hair cut and colored by Cole Albin here at Root Parlour and it was a phenomenal experience! it was my first time getting my hair cut in almost a year, hair down to the booty and feeling like I needed a huge refresh. Cole was the perfect person to help me, she was considerate and patient when finding a color that best suits my skin tone and eye color and made sure even if she had to mix different colors to achieve the perfect tone ! tears came to my eyes after the appointment, we did a huge chop and I left out of there with brown hair instead of my blonde! I LOVED IT! Let's start with the vibe. In the past, I hated going to a salon. It is difficult to sit for long periods of time and some salons can be loud. Root Parlour is very chill, very relaxing. Time always seems to fly bye when I'm there. Customer service is excellent here. The minute you walk in you are greeted with a smile and offered something to drink. They services continues too with someone always checking on you. Professionalism is a big plus. I'm never sitting there waiting. Shelby has her timing down. If I have an appointment at 3pm, well that's when she's ready. One of the things I also really love is that they book several appointments out in advance for me. This I really love because then I'm guaranteed a fresh color or color for an important event. Shelby also never flakes on my appointment or has to reschedule. Something else I truly appreciate since I book my appointments around things I have calendared. The people there are also really sweet. It's a smaller salon and not one that is packed with a ton of stylist. You can tell that everyone enjoys working there and working together. There's no complaining about coworkers which is nice. I teach middle school so when I leave work I'm not looking to be around people who act like middle schoolers. Finally, the quality of my cut and color are always on point. I have bangs! When they grow out they can be really annoying. Except when Shelby cuts my bangs! When they grow out they still look good. When it comes to my color she knows I like to keep it low maintenance. So she's never convincing me to do something that'll require a lot of upkeep. I appreciate this about here. Even when it comes to products in the salon. She never pushing her products unless I complain about an issue I'm having and then she'll recommend something for me to try. I absolutely recommend this salon! The location is also great. I love Root Parlour, I love the stylists and I love the quality of service I have always received from Shelby! Shelby has been my stylist for 13+ years. I have driven 5 minutes to see her, over an hour and now I STILL go to her when I live out of state. When you find someone reliable, trustworthy and who has consistently nailed your cut and color, it is worth the drive/plane/train! I have recommended Shelby to my in-laws, aunts, grandmas, friends! It is so great to have a high-end salon in the neighborhood! I love that it is small and so friendly. Charlie does amazing hair cuts and color and has a great sense of humor. Shelby, the owner wants every customer to have a great experience and has paid attention to the little details. I saw a couple of folks here who didn't have a good experience and honestly that is so surprising to me! I had a great time here, it's near CSULB for any students who have huge gaps in between their classes like me. It's a beautiful salon with very welcoming stylists. They ensure you're comfortable and happy with your results. Sherry added very natural dimension to my dark long hair and gave me a trim. I had asked for her personal opinion on what would suit my hair and skin color, she was able to help me and explain why. Most hair stylists cut too much or leave my hair too light for my liking but she cut just what was needed and left me with a beautiful color. They are ready to assist your needs, I was offered a variety of beverages and made sure my entire appointment that I was comfortable. Along with that the salon is clean and organized. This place is also near a couple coffee/boba shops so you can also grab a drink to enjoy after your appointment. Highly recommend! read more

I don't usually write reviews, but I had to. Shelby does a wonderful job with natural color, but the she and thee salon do not have great customer service. Overall they turned out to be very unprofessional and insensitive to me. I lost my job, tried to reschedule after I contracted COVID and was cleared then asked for a quote so I could plan ahead financially before my wedding . Unfortunately, they left me hanging 1 MONTH before my wedding. Very bizarre and rude. I am now scrambling right before my wedding to find a colorist that I can trust. Sadly, I ended up not being able to trust Shelby. I will not be coming back here even though I live in the neighborhood. In response to Shelby: MY WEDDING is on August 31st not October just to be clear. You also told me at the very end of July aka July 31st. That is ONE month. And I am allowed to write a review however I please of my honest experience. I did not have a good experience here. Shelby is fabulous! Excellent Goldwell colorist and eclectic stylist. She can do anything you need or want to try--I've had short and long hair and every color from blonde to red-to neutral brown. And, did I mention my hair is prematurely gray? Goldwell products do the trick to cover stubborn gray. Had a phenomenal experience with Shelby, and Brianna! Went in for a wash and blow dry, and we added a root touch up to the appointment. The salon is very relaxing, and welcoming. The other stylist at the salon were so friendly, and created such a fun atmosphere.
