The place: No frills - it has a minimalist, industrial feel to it, with very few tables in use to ensure social distancing during this crazy pandemic time. I particularly appreciated the plastic dividers that were hanging from the ceiling to separate tables. Also, similar to its Elgin location, they've got excellent tunes. The goods: On this particular visit, I had a Cortado with almond milk. It was great. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her plain latté as well. Service: Great - the fellow who served us was friendly and he appreciated my Winnie the Pooh mask. I mean, what more can a girl ask for? Price point: I think the Cortado was about $4. The outside does not justify the inner interior of this cafe. There is so many different corners to choose from, if only dine- in is allowed. There are several corners from a fireplace, to the communal table, along with the library of books corner and window with good lighting and surrounded by plant that one can choose if they had the luxury of dining in. Coffee- I ordered Americano and Flat White (used Oat milk) and found the coffee was about weak. Pastries - They were both amazingly delicious. The Chocolate pastry and a sour cherry yoghurt pastry caught my eye and those were both good choices. There were also good food and pastries offering. I imagine people like Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell in their early years hanging out in places like the Art House, to give you an idea of the ambiance ;) I grabbed a breakfast sandwich and a lunch wrap to go. The Southwest Chicken Wrap ($9.85) was really tasty. It had pieces of chicken, rice, black beans, cheese, and corn (which I picked out, lol). It had a bit of a spicy kick, but I'd still consider it mild (or at most on the milder side of medium). The breakfast sandwich was an English muffin, cheese, egg and bacon. I like that it was real cheese and not like a processed Kraft Singles kind of cheese. Very tasty. Staff are super chill and friendly. I'll need to come back sometime to hang out. I wanted to try this place out because it's listed as a dessert place and I really enjoy dessert. Perhaps dessert isn't as profitable as one would want because they've "diversified" the menu and serve a few sandwiches and pre-packaged ramen. For me, though, the aroma of stale ramen on the air just doesn't help my appetite for dessert. Also, the restaurant was dark and didn't look as clean and bright as I want in my dessert place (or anywhere I eat). That might have just been my perception. Fortunately, they didn't have the dessert that I wanted. So, we left the ramen shop quickly.
