Peanut butter bites! I miss you!
Dessi V.

Bridgehead saved my life on Good Friday morning, when my caffeine craving was nearly out of control. The coffee is so good and they have flat white on the menu! The personnel is superbly polite and the barista made for us some perfect drinks. We enjoyed greatly the chill atmosphere, it was busy that particular morning, but yet there were enough tables to relax in the coffee shop. There is also bakery on site and they make these amazing bites with chocolate, maple syrup and oh yes! peanut butter. They are all good, but the peanut butter ones are so good that there was second round of them. It appears Bridgehead coffeehouses are spread in multiple locations in Ottawa and now I know, where to satisfy my coffee needs when in town.

Oops! No sanitizer. Cavalier staff. Bathrooms in use? Both for 15 minutes? My out of town brother is unimpressed.

This location has one way to heat things up...a MICROWAVE! Not really in line with the healthy options they have to eat. One word-gross

Red Door Provisions - Whoopie cookie

LOVELY LOVELY! The staff is kind and answered all my questions. The food was lovely and they have…read morevegan sandwich options which is fun. They do a lot of grilled cheeses and baked goods. They also carry provisions so you can take home some exotic goodies for later. They also have some alcoholic beverages that are local (cider!). I had coffee and pastries both times I visited and they were amazing each time. I loved sitting on their front patio but the back patio also looks lovely. I will be back. Parking was the only challenge, but I was less than a block away. I will be back!

I don't know how come this place gets many good reviews but every time I come there, the quality of…read morefood and service is very poor. A few times I bought the pastries there, and it was stale and not fresh. Today I asked the staff when the pastries on display were made, and they seemed to be confused at first, and then they had to admit that the pastries weren't prepared today. I ended up not buying them at all to not the risk of eating spoiled food. They told me that they also have fresh ones but why do they charge fresh and stale pastry for the same price then?! The drinks are mediocre. For instance, they charge almost 8 dollars for a small seasonal drink. It's not even good at all, as if tasteless. The overall atmosphere isn't welcoming due to the constant smell of burning, unfriendly stuff, and some of the kitchenware seems to be not cleaned well, for instance, the toaster, there is a lot of soot on it that constantly burns. The stuff isn't suitable for working in hospitality. They seem to not be interested in what they're doing, and that's why they do it badly and don't put much effort. That is what happens when the owner hires students for whom working in a cafe isn't a profession but just a side hassle. Also, their appearance wasn't nice. By saying that I mean their clothes didn't look neat and tidy, and their hair was uncombed and loose. To sum up, Red Door Provisions is just another overrated cafe that might make an impression of a cute and cozy place with delicious drinks and pastries at first but it turns out to be even worse than mediocre. I gave it a few chances to improve my impression of it but I'll not come back there anymore, and I recommend others to avoid it as well.

Dao Cafe - Inside the Ube mini tart

This Dao Cafe is co-located with a Tealive. However, they also sell their own drinks (mostly coffee…read moreand tea beverages like lattes and cappuccinos). They sell lots of fancy pastries, with the prices to match, lol. I've tried the Lychee Rose cake $11.50. It was served in a round container the size of a small drinking glass. The lychee and Rose flavours were pronounced, but the rose dominated and I would have preferred the reverse. The top had a light sprinkling of tiny real rose petal pieces. The cake was sponge cake and was soft and moist. The cream was airy and fluffy. It was tasty, but a bit pricey for the portion size. I've also tried their Korean macarons ($3.90 each). Korean macarons are like French macarons except there's a lot of filling and it's a thick buttery cream. I'm not a fan of the filling. It's too rich for me. However, if you like these types of macarons these are well made. My overall assessment is that the desserts look pretty, the taste is good, but you're paying more for the aesthetics. Service is courteous and efficient. The cafe is also really pretty inside. Very Instagramble ;) It's in a plaza, so lots of free parking. (25)

I love the first Dao location that opened in Ottawa…read more Maybe I expected too much for this location which is a a 3*, A-OK, in my books. We went on a Saturday around 5p. The seating and tables weren't being attended to, so there were crumbs at and on every available seating/table combo. The garbage in the seating area was overflowing. Customer service at the cash was cheerful and reasonably efficient. The barrista failed us, as, with only our order, it took a while to receive it. My flat white, which should be smooth with a slightly sweet finish was bitter and acidic. Sigh. Lots of people seemed to be enjoying themselves. The pastries are as stunning and tasty as at the other location. This location is also quite beautiful with an airy feel. Nice space for a chat. The seating along the window is likely best suited to singles, or under thirty crowd, as, to have a conversation, you either have to put a leg up on the bench or crane your torso and neck. I found it a bit uncomfortable. And since that was just about the only seating left...I'm wondering if others may have had similar experiences. This location is much closer to home for us... maybe I'll keep my Doa fix for when I'm in the west end of the city.
