    Salad selection.

I stopped by today to grab some lunch for takeout. Overall, the food was good, but they got my order wrong (and I didn't realize it until I left) and I didn't feel that the food really stood out in any way. However, I'm glad to see an independent coffee shop in Orleans amidst all the chains. It was busy, so they obviously have a following. I got their salad and sandwich combo for $11.75. They have a variety of types to choose from. Salads are pre-made, but sandwiches are made to order. You even get to choose what type of bread you want. I got a honey mustard chicken sandwich on sun-dried tomato bread. It comes with lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers. It's a real chicken breast, and not deli meat, which I appreciated. Toppings were fresh. You get to choose 2 salads and I chose the lentil salad (which looked really good) and the Greek salad. However, when I got to my parents' place and opened up the box, I discovered that I was given only Greek salad, instead of lentil salad and Greek salad. It was not worth my time and gas to drive back, so I just ate it. The Greek salad had tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, red onions, Kalamata olives (although I only got 1 olive, and the pit was still in it), and feta cheese (I got only 2 tiny cubes). The dressing wasn't too oily, which I appreciated, and the flavour was good, but I would have liked some more cheese. And of course, I would have liked to try the lentil salad that I ordered :( Service was nice and friendly. I was greeted right away, and advised what items they had. I really wanted a crepe, but didn't see any on the menu and when I inquired, I was told that any waffle on the waffle menu can be made into a crepe. All the waffles were sweet and I wanted something savoury, so no crepe for me :( I may come back for some gelato or sweet crepes/waffles in the future. This cafe is in a strip mall. Same strip mall as Farm Boy and Bagel Run. Lots of free parking.

    Chocolate prestige cake

Tried it for the first time today, delicious. The server took her time to explain which flavour of desserts they had, pointing them out one at a time. We decided on chocolate prestige and a gluten free double dark chocolate cake. Both incredibly rich and delicious. Cake portion was perfect. Enough to fill and satisfy you and just on the line of if it was another two more bites, you'd vomit from the richness. The iced Capp tasted much better than a Tim Hortons sugary iced capp, perfect for a real coffee lover. The outside of the store could use a little makeover, it does seem kinda sketchy but I promise you they only sell quality! Will definitely be back again.

I love this cute cafe as it offers tasty food, but the real attraction here is the printed latte art. It is the first spot in Ottawa to have this feature.

    Vanilla latte!

Finally stopped in here for breakfast after hearing such great reviews from everyone who has been. I got a vanilla latte which was delicious and crepes with ham, egg and swiss cheese. The crepes were really good and presentation was awesome. Everything was served hot and fresh and I would definitely go back. The service was good also. The cakes and the gelato in the display case were very tempting so might have to go back soon to try one of those. They also sell some locally made jewelry. The place was fairly busy for a Sunday morning. They have a patio so some people were sitting outside enjoying the nice weather. They have newspapers and puzzles to help entertain the customers. For water you can just go up and help yourself to the water jug which is kind of nice. All in all another great local spot.

They serve coffee, tea, sandwiches, salads, pastries and squares. They share their space with The Niche Ottawa Gallery which showcases art from Ottawan artists. The cafe is eclectic and has a cozy community feel to it. I like it. I got 2 sandwiches there. Their sandwiches are actually from Lunchbox (which has a location close by in Orleans and a newly opened one in Hintonburg). I got a BLT and a Chickpea Salad sandwich. Both were very good. I had a bite of each. My dad loved the Chickpea Salad sandwich. He said it was interesting and different from other sandwiches that he's had. It was chickpeas mixed with corn in a mayo sauce with a hint of curry. It had some greens and fresh herbs in it too. The BLT had the usual bacon, lettuce and tomato, but also a special sauce in it, that made it unique. My mom liked the BLT sandwich. What a great discovery! It's off the beaten path, but definitely worth the detour :) Lots of free parking in the strip mall parking lot.

They sell lots of fancy pastries, with the prices to match, lol. I've tried the Lychee Rose cake $11.50. It was served in a round container the size of a small drinking glass. The lychee and Rose flavours were pronounced, but the rose dominated and I would have preferred the reverse. The top had a light sprinkling of tiny real rose petal pieces. The cake was sponge cake and was soft and moist. The cream was airy and fluffy. It was tasty, but a bit pricey for the portion size. I've also tried their Korean macarons ($3.90 each). Korean macarons are like French macarons except there's a lot of filling and it's a thick buttery cream. I'm not a fan of the filling. It's too rich for me. However, if you like these types of macarons these are well made. My overall assessment is that the desserts look pretty, the taste is good, but you're paying more for the aesthetics. Service is courteous and efficient. The cafe is also really pretty inside. Very Instagramble ;) It's in a plaza, so lots of free parking. (25)

The seating and tables weren't being attended to, so there were crumbs at and on every available seating/table combo. The garbage in the seating area was overflowing. Customer service at the cash was cheerful and reasonably efficient. The barrista failed us, as, with only our order, it took a while to receive it. My flat white, which should be smooth with a slightly sweet finish was bitter and acidic. Sigh. Lots of people seemed to be enjoying themselves. The pastries are as stunning and tasty as at the other location. This location is also quite beautiful with an airy feel. Nice space for a chat. The seating along the window is likely best suited to singles, or under thirty crowd, as, to have a conversation, you either have to put a leg up on the bench or crane your torso and neck. I found it a bit uncomfortable. And since that was just about the only seating left...I'm wondering if others may have had similar experiences. This location is much closer to home for us... maybe I'll keep my Doa fix for when I'm in the west end of the city.

My mom and I love Middle Eastern pastries, so I stopped by to pick up a few items on my way to my parents house. Some of their items are sold by weight and some by the piece. I got a piece of Shaabiyat (triangle shaped pastry made of phyllo stuffed with custard) for $2. I also got a piece of shredded phyllo Kunafa, a piece of semolina Kunafa, and a piece of cake layered with ashta cream and pistachio nuts. These 3 pastries were $23/kg and it cost me $12.65 for all 3 pieces. The Shaabiyat was quite sweet, but I still enjoy it, while every thing else was perfect for me, so much less sweet than at other bakeries. I loved it! My parents felt the other pastries were not sweet enough for them, but they just poured some of the honey syrup that came with the pastries on it and felt it was perfect. I love how you can control the amount of sweetness. Everything was delicious. I will be coming here for all my Middle Eastern pastries from now on. The lady serving me was very friendly. Part way through, a man came to the front and advised me that the piece of cake I ordered was from yesterday and he can get me a fresh one. Oh yes, please! Also they had some freshly baked Shaabiyat at the back and they would bring that tray out. Nice! I was so thrilled to be getting fresh items (I came on a Saturday morning). The lady also gave me a sample of their baklava while I was waiting. They did not have any Znoud El Sit while I was there, but hopefully next time, as this is my favourite Middle Eastern pastry. I am so glad that I discovered this place! It's in the Plaza on Vanguard at Tenth Line. Same plaza as Li's Fusion, Ali Baba Bakery and Chocolat Favoris. Lots of free parking.
