Stopped in on a total whim driving to Tucson after a day of meetings in Phoenix. It was FANTASTIC. If I lived anywhere near here I'd be there weekly... or volunteer for free. This place definitely deserves it's 5 star status! First there isn't a lot to do in this area, so that automatically makes it top tier. :) But they don't rest on that. They actually provide a great experience from start to finish. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. They lady at the front spoke to my children and made sure they were prepared for their afternoon, not just to me. The facility was clean, and the animals looked well taken care of. There was such a wide variety of animals for a small town farm and you could feed every one of them! Admission was $15 with sting ray food, &12 without. Under $5 is free, but if you want them to have their own food, it's an additional $6. The price was very reasonable. You do not have a time limit. So you can stay all day if you'd like. But there isn't a lot of shade and it gets HOT. So we were there for about an hour. Keep in mind that the green pellets are for animals throughout. We used a lot up in the beginning so we didn't have as much for the last animals. (They give you enough food. We just didn't ration it well.) I think my favorite was feeding the sting rays though that was also a really weird feeling. The lorikeets were pretty cool too. But they could get a little assertive and aggressive. I would prepare little ones because they can fight over the nectar, one did on my daughters arm! But she was ok, just startled. All in all we had a wonderful time. So glad that this farm is still open! I went about 15 years ago and loved every minute of it! This time was no exception. The staff were super friendly and knowledgeable and made me feel at home. And for $12 that comes with food for the animals a low cost and fun time--I am so in! I really liked that there was no order to visiting the animals, you could take your time and really walk around. They have deer, lorikeets, ostriches, tortises, rabbits, goats, and others! I loved loving on the deer, rabbits, and lorikeets. They are both so beautiful! I was a little wary of the ostriches and stingrays, but the stingrays were surprisingly cool and I got to pet a few of them. I was told that their stingers are removed, so there is no fear in petting them. If I could rate this place a 10/10, I would! My family and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVED this place! So worth the drive and money! The staff were very friendly from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Given it was our first time, the employee at the entrance provided us helpful information on how to feed the animals and which food needed to be given to the groups of animals. She showed us how to go through each animal exhibit by following the numbers in order displayed on each section. She was super friendly and interacted very well with both of my daughters. At the gift shop, the employee was very helpful, even showing me all of the ornaments they had in stock. She was patient and very polite. Thank you all so much! We absolutely loved the interaction with the animals! When you arrive, you are given 2 blue cups with different foods that are assigned to the different groups of animals. My 2 girls (7 & 1) had a blast feeding and interacting with all of the animals. My 7 year old loved feeding the sheep because they reminded her of her stuffy at home (her Lammy). The animals did not bite. Rather, they used their tongues to pick up the food from your hand. My 1 year old enjoyed walking around and exploring all of the animals. She really took to the tortoises, following them as they moved. My most fave of all were feeding the birds! Feeding the rainbow birds was the most incredible experience! You are given a plastic small cup with a clear fluid containing food for the rainbow birds. You hold the cup in your hand like a fist and the birds land on your arm/hand to open the lid and drink the food! It is soooooo awesome! I even had rainbow birds on my shoulders too! I felt like a kid in a candy store with these birds! It was so exciting! At the end, there is a stingray exhibit where you can touch and feed the stingrays. It is free to pet them, but there is a cost to feed them. My 7 year old thought it was the neatest thing touching the stingrays. She describes them as slimy! lol. Also at the end, they have a gift shop where you can buy souvenirs! I'm a collector of traveling ornaments. Therefore, I had to purchase an ornament showing we were there ($7). They also have monster trucks you can ride for $25 that will take you through another part of the farm. They provide you with a tour guide who provides education on the animals and farm and also shows you more animals behind the scenes. We did not ride the monster trucks this time, but next time, we will give it a try. OH! Littles ones 2 years and younger are free to ride. Prices are very reasonable! Especially for all of the interaction, all of the fun, and excitement you get. We truly enjoyed all of it! This place definitely worth visiting! Please stop by on your travels. Love this place, the best family value out there. Where else can you make out with a goat, lose a finger to the ostriches and hang out with 100 year old tortoises. Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch's name is so understated. And the pics really, really don't do the place justice. It's been more than a few years that I raised ALL sorts of animals and enjoyed every bit of it. But this place is truly an experience. They are well organized and have pattern with the appropriate food for each animal. Follow their instructions on feeding, and you'll (regardless of age) have a great deal of fun. BTW, I don't know which is more fun: the animals or the people with animals. The animals are well behaved. The hands-on experience of feeding them allows you to touch them in their safe zone. The bunnies were incredibly soft and they eat so delicately - unlike goats! Also contrasting were the slow (but quicker than I thought) eating by the large tortoises and the ravenous Ostriches. It is all outside so dress appropriately and bring sunscreen. You may want to get there early - it's a popular place. We had a great time, I can't image that anyone wouldn't. read more

Saw this place on the side of the road while driving from Phoenix to Tucson and decided to stop by! So many animals to feed with easy instructions on how to feed them. It cost $15 for admission + the food to feed all animals including the stingrays! There was one other price option that was cheaper that included everything minus stingray food. But the stingrays were pretty fun to feed so I'd recommend spending the couple extra dollars. You can walk right up and buy your tickets at the entrance. Saw this place on the drive to Tucson and decided on a whim to visit it as we didn't have plans in Phoenix. There is plenty of parking and two choice for entrance packages. Packages are for entry fee and feed for the animals. There are no options for entry only. One package for all animals except stingray at $12 and with stingray food it is $15. The gift shop is to the right of the entrance and accesible on exit as well. You start with miniature donkeys to feed and there are signs letting you know how to feed the animals. Also warning signs for animal behavior and what not to do. The donkeys were sweet. The feed is separated in two cups with the pellet food for most of the animals and the seed stick for parakeets on top and the lorikeet nectar and tokens for chicken, ducks and rabbits on the bottom cup. Next up are parakeets. They cling to the wire mesh and seed stick as you push it between the mesh. We fed the Fallow deer next. They were so sweet and gentle. They have two ways to feed the Boer goats. One was by a pulley system to where the goats were on top in the 'penthouse.' The other was by hand or your lips to the 'hole in the wall gang.' Since he had wandered on to the ostrich's, I fed the goats alone. The pulley system was cool while the hole in the wall was interesting. And beware if you are wearing something flappy. A goat tried to eat my dress. He loved the ostriches. They walk elegantly I thought - like royalty deigning to visit with you. But they have an attitude. They are strong and their beaks kinda hurt as they eat from your hand. One almost took my ring with the feed and another clamped on his phone. Luckily he managed to hold onto it. You can walk up a ramp and have a better view of the ostriches. Then I went to feed the chickens who were dignified and plump. You use the token given to work the dispenser and then you open the door to the chute and scoop the feed into your cup. Don't use all your given pellets yet as there are two more places to use them as I found out. The chickens were pretty gentle eating out of your hand. But I still preferred feeding them in their food dishes. Next up were the St. Croix sheep. They were adorable. Fluffy and standing so far out over the enclosure we marveled that they didn't just leap out. Very gentle. Then we fed the Nigerian dwarf goats. They were very eager, and nimble too, going up to the beams on top and poking their heads forward. Then I used another token for the rabbit food. These bunnies are cute. Most of them were sleeping by their 'houses' and their pen is divided into sections. He liked this one bunny who came to him and ate out of his hand and be petted. He also shoved his face in the feed cup. Soft, fluffy bunnies. I love bunnies. The ducks were noisy and swam towards you when you fed them. The last token got me duck food. They were strong and their beaks were hard. Better to put the feed on the feeding surface. They are very enthusiastic.There are large tortoises in an enclosure you can look at. And there are two hand wipe and return feed cup stations by the bunnies. After that you have your lorikeet nectar left to use and you can go into the 'rainbow forest.' You have to only have the nectar and have finished feeding all pellet food. There are heavy chains to prevent the lorikeets from flying out as the doors are opened. One enterprising fellow was climbing on the chains to the inner doors. The attendant told us that the lorikeet will open the nectar container themselves. These lorikeets were very friendly. The climber came to me from the attendant's arm to energetically open the nectar container. One landed on my head and just sat there. I had three lorikeets at once - One on my head, one on my shoulder and one on my hand. He thought it was hilarious and kept telling me the one on my head was pooping on me. You can buy refills of nectar if you want. I checked out the gift store and bought an ostrich keychain as a keepsake. Also bought some small road street signs with names on them of people I know as gifts. And some snacks including ostrich jerky. The ostrich eggshells are large and they will pack them with bubble wrap if you are traveling. Some are lovely with artwork. They have restrooms available but with limited supplies so have paper towels and soap ready in case. There is also a shooting gallery for kids and I saw that they offer a vehicle tour during non-pandemic times. The stingrays are just before you enter the main building again if you chose to feed them. It was such a fun experience and even he enjoyed it. He couldn't stop talking about the ostriches. If you've read all of this you are amazing. But I had to convey how much fun this was and that you should visit if you come into Tucson or Phoenix. read more

Visited during COVID times. We had a great time stopping by at the Cogburn Ostrich Ranch! I had been meaning to go for years and was glad to finally make it. For $12 a person for entrance and animal feed, it was well worth it. For an extra $3 you get food to feed the stingrays. Honestly, we didn't feel like we missed out because the stingrays still come right up to you without food. The service was friendly and they observed social distancing and masking indoors. Outside, there is ample room so masking is not required. I wish they didn't encourage patrons to kiss the goats as this is a great way to transmit disease during COVID times. I did not kiss a goat, so one did try to eat my pants in protest. The animal enclosures were immaculate which was a nice surprise. We really enjoyed the variety of animals and they seemed pretty comfortable and content. I will say that although it was cool to see ostriches, they were a little scary and I did not enjoy feeding them. My sig other was pecked hard and left with an ostrich hickey on his hand. Would definitely watch the kids around these giant birds. All the other animals were super friendly. Our definite favorite was the Lorikeet exhibit.
