I have experienced first-rate barns (i.e. Adamcin Equestrian) run by knowledgeable owners and trainers and this barn is not that. Owners permit their pack of ill-mannered dogs (6 or so) to run at large, something, no reputable barn would do. My horse spooked when the Owners dog charged him. The Owners refused responsibility, instead claiming my horse and I presented the liability risk and asked me to leave. Also told me I did not "fit in." Same dog charged another boarder's horse, while she was mounted, causing him to buck. Liability issues here are self-inflicted by the Owners. There are nasty boarders that appear to thrive on drama and bullying: a busy body, self-proclaimed "expert" offers unsolicited criticism and insulting comments, and a pathetic bully who threatened me and, among other insults, stated my horse (sweetest gelding around) should get a bullet to his head. I had never had a conversation with this disturbed individual until he approached and abused me. You will not find high standards of horsemanship or equitation, not surprising, given the above. Happy to have not "fit in" at this looney barn.

We rode as a family (myself, my partner, Tom, and our two kids) and Mel made everyone feel comfortable, inclusive of being provided nice cold water during the warm temps. We opted for the ride from the Stables, at sunset, which was perfect for us as we had mixed levels of riding experience in our group and it was good to be a little closer to civilization. But when we are back in Tucson, you better believe we will ride with Catalina again and take the remote desert ride to experience more of that incredible Tucson charm. I'd also like to give a shout out to riding club owners, Rose and Bob, who were incredibly helpful and super responsive before, during and after booking. Not only were they awesome to work with in regards to finding a good day/time for our ride, and finding the right horse for each of us, but also so fantastic to offer up other activities for us to do while we were in Tucson. Our only issue with this experience... it had to end and that made us sad. Facility: It has a large arena, medium arena, turnout, 2 round pens, jump course, trail course, dressage arena and small trail area with a 20 min ride to the CDO wash. They have many stalling option available from outdoor paddocks, mare motel, indoor/outdoor and a training barn. All boarding is reasonably priced. Boarders: All age people and horses from 6 yr olds (I believe in when the school allows them to start) to the 70-80 yr old women/men that have companion horses. Horses range from the young 2 year olds to the 30 year old retired horses. It is a very friendly atmosphere. Services/Training: The services offered are wonderful. Turnouts, lunging, training, lessons(show lessons, beginner, intermediate, advanced, Therapeutic riding (Rolling Hills Riding Academy) and plenty of school/lease horse). The owners have show all over the country in AQHA,APHA, Palomino, etc. from open shows to world shows and have a room full of pictures and awards to back it up. They have experience in the gaited breeds as well as arabs and the classic quarter horses. They offer training from tune ups and "problem horses" to full time training and show training. The owner has always made it a point to perform the service the customer is paying for. If it ends up pouring or other emergencies come up, they refund you or reschedule for the next day. Medical/Barn Management: The owners have a wide range of medical experience and that is one reason I have never considered moving barns. They walk through the barns and makes sure that the 70+ horses all look healthy. If they see a horse cast, colicing, scrapped up etc., they know how to medicate them. If it is serious enough, they have multiple experienced vets on call at all times. If they think a horse is slightly underweight, they confront the owner and discuss options to up their feed. They truly care about the horses and customers at their barn and lend advice whenever asked. They have never steered me wrong and I would trust them with my life. All-in-all this barn is ideal for all types/age riders and horses. With the expertise and experience on hand, the barn owners are able to manage and extremely friendly, healthy atmosphere and look out for their customers and horses. I would highly suggest this barn to anyone in Tucson

Upon arrival, we checked in and were paired with a horse. I had the pleasure of riding Gunsmoke. After a brief tutorial (left, right, stop, and go), we were ready to ride off into the sunset. Parts of the terrain were a bit rocky, which was a little intimidating, but Gunsmoke was able to navigate without any difficulty. Our guide was friendly and attentive. We were quickly given an easy 1-2-3 of steering and handling the horse. I had the pleasure of riding atop of Romeo. The staff were pretty reserved and friendly. The ride was about 1.5 hours long thru a desert path. It was amazing to see the horses navigate in incline and descent rocky terrain. They would halt or slow down walking until they got good footing. Depending on the weather bringing sun shades, water, mask for dusk, proper attire would be recommended. However, I was not fully prepared. With that being said I still was ok without and had an amazing time anyway.
