Roosevelt has been great to us! Our puppy started off here for basic shots. They always have great availability and the staff is so kind. Dr. Glassman and the vet techs always provide great information and options. They have always been transparent with pricing as well. Recently we started sending our pup to daycare periodically when we are both working. To say the least she LOVES going and cries of excitement every time we get there. Arturo and staff are so kind to her as well. I love having daycare and the vet in one place and the facilities are very nice. We haven't sent our cat to this vet before, as we used someone else prior to getting the dog, but would love to switch her as well. The location is convenient and the service is great. My daughter took her dog in for pain in her back. Over multiple visits and and a myriad of tests, costing over $1000, they didn't know what was wrong. After a week of the dog still yelping in pain even with pain meds, she decided the humane thing to do was put the dog down. She went to Guardian, where the vet told them before you put her down, let me take a last look. A simple neck palpation found the problem. A regimen of medications and a head cone, found the dog 100% better in a matter of days. The dog would have crossed the " rainbow bridge " if it had not been for the care the Guardian vet showed. read more

Our first time here was definitely five-stars. We found the facility so inviting, so clean, and the staff as friendly and receptive and knowledgeable as we could possibly have hoped. Ours was not an emergency visit; we drove here from Connecticut to have our kitty neutered. We were treated with great courtesy and efficiency. The surgery was completed quickly (and priced reasonably), and we were notified immediately. When we picked up kitty we were given complete instructions, verbal and written, for her care. The next day they followed up with an inquiry about kitty's condition and inviting us to call them with any concerns. We were very impressed with all of this. The Roosevelt Center is an hour away from us, but for this kind of care and caring, we'll return. A terrific operation, and we are grateful in every way. read more

We were hoping to get our pup spayed before her second heat cycle and did not realize how difficult it would be to get an appointment. I called 30+ veterinarians and spay clinics from New Jersey to Maine trying to find an appointment. Everyone was booked out for months -- some into next year. I called Roosevelt Veterinary Center with low expectations and was delighted when I was told they had spay appointments available that same week. I was nervous after reading some of the reviews on Yelp but opted to move forward after realizing that most of the complaints seem to be about pricing transparency rather than quality of service. We could not be happier with the service we received. Because of previous reviews I was prepared to have to pay more than the $398 + $65 for bloodwork I was quoted on the phone (prices vary by animal's weight). The only additional cost was for an optional but recommended IV ($50). I also opted for the upgraded donut collar ($30), but -- to RVC's credit -- they refunded it after discovering that it didn't fit my dog properly. I did a lot of research and found RVC's pricing to be mid-range. Low-cost spay/neuter clinics charge anywhere from $150-$250 (less, in some cases, if you have a pitbull). Many vets I contacted charge anywhere from $850-1250. Most of the cheaper places had very long waiting lists; some were so long they wouldn't even add me to it. Considering the timing and the quality of the service against the price, I think RVC is a great value. The technicians were friendly, attentive, and communicative. The drop off/pick up process was seamless (in between 830-9a, out after 4p). I got a call after surgery (at around 130p) to let me know my pup was okay. The veterinarian came out to introduce herself at pick up, which I really appreciated after many hours of worrying. We were given everything we needed for post-op (4 doses of painkillers included in the base price) and booked an appointment to have stitches out 10 days later. When I noticed some bruising near the incision site a few days post-op, I called and got a response from the veterinarian within 15 minutes. The suture removal was extremely quick. We were late for the appointment and the technician apologized to US for the very slight wait to be seen. So sweet and unnecessary! Several days after suture removal our dog's incision is healing perfectly. Overall, I could not be happier with this experience. Not only did I get an appointment at very short notice; I felt like my dog was well cared for at every step of the way. RVC is 75 minutes from our house but we are thinking about using it as our primary vet because we felt so well taken care of. read more

I don't feel nervous for my fur baby when I come here, and I know it won't cost me an arm and a leg either. I absolutely love this new location and the new hours! I no longer have to take off work to bring my cat in, which is very helpful. Walking in I immediately feel welcomed- they keep a board with the pet patients names on it, how cute! Beautiful photography of pets line the office. Coffee is available as well as some purchases for your pets. Waiting area is small so don't bring the whole family for your fur baby's check up. At the end of my first visit, they gave me a thoughtful kitty goody bag for me and my cat. Can always use a free scooper! They followed up with me via email and mail for my cat's next suggested appointment, and you can get discounts here for shots from time to time. Sometimes, they have a savings offer for first time check ups, so bringing your pet here is a smart, reasonable and safe choice. My $400 puppy adaption fee included a "free" neuter at Roosevelt Animal Hospital in Brewster. When I made the appointment, they requested my email for "appointment confirmation". I complied and my inbox was flooded by so many "special offers" that I had to block them. Not a good introduction. Once there, a salesperson (vet tech?) sat me down to discuss the "extras": Did I want an IV? Blood tests? Other options that I really did not understand. I am not a vet and cannot evaluate these options and resented being put on the spot. I declined the extras and got the feeling that the salesperson did not like this. The adaption agreement specified that I would neuter at 6-months. On the advice of another vet, I waited until he was a year old. Because I waited, there was an additional $350 fee. When I made the appointment I inquired how much it would cost for an extra procedure (remove dewclaws) and was quoted $200 but when I arrived I was told it would be 250. All up, the "free" neuter dewclaw removal was to cost almost $600. My dog, his testicles, and I drove 90 minutes back to NYC. A day wasted. I cannot attest to quality of vet care but I can advise anyone that walks through that door to guard their wallet. I do not consider this an ethical establishment. read more

I brought my 3 month old puppy in for shots, but she was throwing up the past few days. She took blood and sent me home. It took her 3 tries to get the blood. As the day went on she got sicker. I called and she told me to give her a teaspoon of pepto. She became lethargic. I called again. She said bring her in for iv and she'll keep her over night. When I got there, Dr Glassman was out on a call and frick and frack at the desk weren't sure what to do with her. I asked if someone was here overnight and they said no. So I immediately left. I I brought her to Newtown Vet Hospital and they said if I had waited she would had died. She has Parvovirus. I was shocked that Dr. Glassman didn't know the symptoms. Had I waited for the blood results which were told to me st 2:30 the next day, it would have been too late. I would not recommend her to anyone. Stay away. She almost killed my dog. read more

Having used two other veterinary practices over the years, I finally found Roosevelt veterinary. Dr. Glassman is caring, concerned, informed and listens to you. She makes things clear and will explain until you understand. She is friendly, but has a no-nonsense approach, with her goal being the welfare of your pet. She's responsive, and returns calls the same day whenever possible. A new addition to their practice is a holistic vet, Dr. Mihok, who is only there on Tuesdays, but I believe makes house calls the focus of his practice. Dr. Glassman is very competent and well-versed in traditional veterinary medicine. Dr. Mihok is more likely to think outside the box when it comes to cases that don't respond adequately to traditional treatment. One of my furbabies had a chronic condition that would be relieved for a while with traditional treatment, but invariably the same symptoms would recur. Dr. Mihok took, what seemed to me, an unconventional approach. I didn't understand the thinking behind his course of treatment, even after he explained it. Not having any experience with a holistic practitioner, I was very skeptical, but I figured if Dr. Glassman accepted him into her practice, I could trust him. He prescribed a plan which has kept my kitty symptom-free for a long time. Bottom line: Dr. Glassman is an excellent vet who is well-versed and experienced in traditional veterinary medicine. If your pet has something going on that is not being alleviated by the traditional approach, your next step is Dr. Mihok. Note: Several of the front desk staff are sour and lack any kind of customer rapport. They're competent, but I don't remember the last time I saw one smile. It's like doing work for a client is a gross imposition. Not the best first impression nor the attitude I want to remember as I walk out the door. read more

My dog is my life. Roosevelt Animal hospital gets that. They have worked with me on appointment times, changed medications to better suit my dog and have just been generally easy to deal with. When we were out of the area and in need of her medical records they emailed them to me, no charge and with in minutes. I have been to Roosevelt Vet Center three times so far and each visit has been a very positive experience. Both Dr Rosie and Dr Glassman were knowledgeable and compassionate towards my terminally ill cat and the care they provided made a very hard time for us much easier. I was struck by how clean and fresh smelling the practice is. I was taken into the back part to see my cat and discuss her X-rays and the cleanliness and order I saw there was very reassuring. The Doctor also followed up with phone calls to me inquiring how my kitty was doing. My kitty passed away peacefully at home but the fact that the Vet Center does house calls was immensely comforting to me; knowing that the doctor would come to my home to ease her suffering is a huge bonus. read more

I have used Roosevelt Vet for a couple of years. It was finally this past year that I decided it was best I leave. Overall, Dr. Glassman is a competent veterinarian. It is the brusque, almost rude attitude that I am uncomfortable with. If you don't do the procedures that she recommends, you are made to feel as if you are a terrible human being or unintelligent. While I love my pet dearly, I don't agree to doing every test designed to be used on an animal. Nor do I like being talked down to. There were a number of other incidents that I finally decided enough was enough. Pet care is too expensive to be treated like this. Dr. Glassman is capable and knowledgeable. This place is a joke. Do not take your animal here. First, they were not very caring and welcoming to their establishment. When I asked multiple times about the shots my dog required they said all was well. It turned out they missed a shot my dog needed. I even ran back in to triple check that all shots were up to date, with a list. When I called them to let them know that they messed up with the shots they could care less. I have brought my dog Lola to Dr. Glassman for years and have always been impressed with the level of care she has received. When living in NYC, it was worth the drive up to see her as she was always more reasonably priced than city vets, but over time my preference became more than just financial. Lola has undergone a few minor surgeries, dentals, etc. with Dr. Glassman and all have gone smoothly (not the case with other vets I've seen). I've since moved to LA, but recently I was home visiting family when Lola started showing serious signs of illness. Dr. Glassman ran tests and performed ultrasounds and a surgical biopsy. She diagnosed my dog with hepatitis and explained to me the extent of the damage. Initially I took Lola home following her surgery, but she worsened again over the weekend. Dr. Glassman made herself available by text all weekend and met me on a Sunday to give me additional syringes of medication got my dog so I wouldn't have to take her to an emergency vet (where they wouldn't know her case and would charge me a fortune). That Monday I ended up taking her back in because she was showing neurological signs (can be linked to liver issues). Dr. Glassman took Lola back in for the week and had her on fluids and medications to get her stable again. Lola improved dramatically and all neuro signs dissipated. During this whole fiasco, my grandmother had also passed away. I can't say how grateful I am to know that Lola was in good hands and although she was/is quite sick due to her liver I knew I didn't have to worry because I could trust Dr. Glassman and her staff to take care of Lola while I focused on my grandmother and family. They called frequently with updates and even sent me a video of Lola. Thank you Dr. Glassman, Maureen, and Wendy for taking such good care of Lola! read more

I've been taking my new puppy, Freyja, to both Dr. Glassman and their daycare since Sept 2020 and am very happy with the level of service that they provide. I opted to purchase the puppy package which made it easier for me to not have to remember when and what vaccines were needed; they take care of it all (including microchip), and they will give her vaccines when she is at daycare so I don't have to make separate appointment. Yesterday, Freyja was spayed and I chose the laparoscopic option. It was more expensive than traditional spay but worth every penny (Freyja is 7 months and high activity level - no way could I keep her calm for 2 weeks). Dr. Glassman called me after the surgery to give me update and followed up today to see how Freyja was doing. I like that level of concern and follow up care; shows they care as much about your fur baby as you do! Freyja showed no signs of pain or discomfort and was jumping and wanting to play tug-of-war the same evening she came home from the surgery! (which is why I chose the laparoscopic!). Everyone I have met or spoken to at Roosevelt Vet Center and the Mansion daycare has been friendly and professional. I love the new location and could not be happier with their services. This review is written in reference to an appalling situation that occurred with our former veterinarian Dr. Alison Glassman, Roosevelt Vet Center, Brewster, NY. During March 2019 we scheduled our puppy to be spayed by Dr. Glassman, who was the vet for our four dogs and two cats. A price was quoted and agreed upon for the procedure, except upon arrival the morning of procedure we were informed that the quoted price did not include everything potentially needed during the surgery. It turned out the surgery was priced a la carte, which increased the price of the originally quoted surgery. We complained to Dr. Glassman that we should've been alerted to this pricing strategy when the appointment was made and not upon arriving with our puppy the day of the surgery. She responded "this is the price and we could basically take it or leave it," and we took it because we didn't want to have to reschedule and put the puppy through the pre-op preparations once again. Consequently, we wrote a negative review of Dr. Glassman in reference to the incident described above and requested all of our other pet's records so we could consider moving to another vet. On July 23, 2019 we made an order with Chewy for a refill of Adequan which was originally prescribed by Dr. Glassman for our thirteen and half year old, blind, half lame Australian Shepherd named "Max." When Chewy contacted Dr. Glassman she refused to refill the prescription and her office called to inform us that the prescription wouldn't be refilled unless we took down the negative review related to our dissatisfaction with the discrepancy over pricing for the spaying of our puppy! We were also informed that we would have to bring Max into the office for an examination prior to a refill being issued, but there was no guarantee that the medication would be refilled without our review being rescinded. We responded that this was tantamount to extortion at the expense of our beloved blind and lame Aussie! Consequently, we refused and took Max and our five other animals to another Vet. and Max received his medication yesterday, August 1, 2019. Max would've had his needed meds on July 24th according to Chewy had the refill been processed as requested, but due to the petty and totally unprofessional behavior of Dr. Glassman, Max was forced to wait an additional eight days. In the month of June 2019 one our Jack Russells needed care so we decided we would continue utilizing Roosevelt Vet Center, but using another Vet in the practice, Dr. Paulkner. We made the decision to continue mainly because of Maureen and Megan who have always displayed great knowledge and compassion. Our Jack was seen on three occasions into the month of July by Dr. Paulkner and a male Vet in their office and was successfully treated. It was okay to bring our Jack Russell to the office for three visits to cost of approx. $800, so our money was acceptable while the negative review remained, but Dr. Glassman chose to use our BLIND, GERIATRIC AUSSIE as a bargaining chip! Our new Vet when informed as to why we left Roosevelt, commented "that even if we didn't like him, or vice versa, he would never hold the health and well-being of an animal hostage!" In summary, if you love and care for your animals as much as we do, I would stay clear of Dr. Glassman. My son brought his bulldog puppy to Roosevelt Vet Center where the pup was diagnosed with kennel cough. The vet decided to hold off on the medication. It became apparent he was not getting better and the Doctor prescribed medication that was incorrect and completely ineffective Long story short, this puppy is fighting for his life with pneumonia. read more

Do not take your animal here. My 13 year old American Bulldog was the love of our lives and in really good health. He developed a very small lump on his ankle area, so we took him to Roosevelt. They told us not to worry and that it was NOTHING and sent us on our way. Over the next month or so it continued to grow and we became worried. We took our boy to a different vet; they told us it was cancer and it was TOO LATE to remove the tumor. The vet said if only we took him sooner they would have been able to remove it. We called Roosevelt to tell them and they did not care at all. Unfortunately we lost our boy to cancer. I wish we went to a different vet from the beginning or got a second opinion sooner..He would probably still be here today if it weren't for this veterinary service. read more

I took my dog there and told them I wanted to be informed of prices before tests were run. Dr. Glassman took my dog in the back, never told me what tests she was doing, and then stuck me with a $500+ bill WITH NO CONCLUSIVE OPINION as to what was wrong with the dog. My sister took her puppy there to be spayed and they did not give the poor thing any pain medication. When she got home with the dog it was crying pitifully in pain. I was charged and made to pay in full for services that not only did I not receive, but that they refused to give and then refused to refund my money. I have filed complaints with the state Attorney General's office over this extremely unprofessional veterinary practice and I urge you to LOOK ELSEWHERE for an honest and competent vet. read more

We have used Roosevelt Veterinary Center for many many years. Dr Glassman and Dr. Goldstein go above and beyond in every way to keep our animals healthy. Every staff member is kind, compassionate and friendly. Our new dog enjoys going in to see Kim (the receptionist) to get love and kisses! He would hang out there all day if we let him! Most animals don't like going to the vet, but mine actually look forward to their visit at Roosevelt! I also appreciate the fact that they don't over charge you and do unnecessary procedures to hike up the bill. We discovered this place after being overcharged elsewhere for medication, and being unhappy with the other facility's overall atmosphere. Our quest to find a reliable and professional alternative led us to Roosevelt. We immediately found reasonable prices, candid and compassionate care, and informative consultations. I have also called Dr. Glassman and gotten good supplemental advice cheerfully over the phone. The staff always knows who we are and remembers the name of our cat. They understand that a beloved pet is regarded as a family member. We have never experienced a long ordeal in the waiting room, and their mall location offers ample parking and a pet supply store next door. They will also board our cat when we go away. To boil it down in the most human terms I can relate....we just got a good vibe about the place. And after five years, we haven't had a single reason to feel otherwise. read more

We contacted Roosevelt in late 2013 (sorry, late review!) because they do laparoscopic spaying; Dr. Glassman got back to us right away & explained that our toy poodle Ti was too small for that procedure, but that she could remove her ovaries only & thus keep the incision, & the trauma, to a minimum. We drove up from NYC on a snowy morning. The office was immaculate & we were very happy to see how kind & gentle everyone at the office was with her. Dr. Glassman had explained the procedure already but let us ask more questions, & told us we could pick her up in a couple of hours. The office is located in a strip mall; we wandered around the drugstore (where one of the office staffers saw us & reassured us that all was going well -- we must have looked rather nervous!) & then to the coffee shop for a quick sandwich. We hadn't even finished eating when my husband's cellphone rang; surgery was done & we could get her. Roosevelt offers the option of a Surgi-Shirt (a snug stretchy suit that keeps the dog from licking or biting the incision, & can be rolled up to let her urinate/defecate) -- much nicer than the Collar of Shame -- we have since used it like a Thundershirt to keep her calm under stress. No carrier required: they put her straight into my arms, told us what to expect & how to take care of her & gave details on when she could begin taking her pain medication,& off we went back to the city with Ti curled up in my lap. Other than a few whimpers when the car went over a bump, she had an easy trip home. By evening she was quite interested in her dinner & then slept comfortably. The pain meds the next day helped, & other than on the ride home, she didn't complain at all (as a rule, she is a very vocal poodle!). When we took the shirt off her, we were amazed at how tiny the incision was. It healed remarkably fast with no ill effects, & she was her usual energetic self from the second day on. I would like to say again how extremely competent, compassionate & kind every person in the office was, & despite the distance, when it's time for a dental cleaning or anything beyond routine vaccinations, we will be very happy to make the trip.
