We started going here in 2020, and initially had a good experience with both our dogs. This year has been a disaster though. When I brought in my dogs for their vaccinations, they completely missed the date of one of my dogs rabies vaccination and he ended up being unvaccinated for months. When I called them about this, the person who answered the phone didn't apologize and was very flippant about it. I had to advocate for an apology, and it was only at that point that they offered to comp the cost of the appointment. Then this month, one of my dog's was sick, and I had to wait three days for an appointment b/c they had only had one vet on staff. We finally got bloodwork done and I was told we'd hear back from the doctor the next day. I called at 4pm the next day as I hadn't heard anything (mind you, my dog still is sick), and they weren't able to tell me anything. I then had to call back again at 11am the following day, and a diagnosis of diabetes was delivered over the phone by a receptionist - with no empathy, no explanation, no walking me through a care plan, or what to expect, etc. They then told me I had to go to ANOTHER vet down the road to learn how to administer insulin. It was horrendous, and to this day, no one has called to follow up to see how he's even doing or what the status is. All that to say, we're now happy customers down the road at Noah's Ark Animal Hospital. They are kind, professional, knowledgeable, caring, and generous. I recommend them as an alternative to this place. read more

This was my second time coming to this vet for a wellness visit. Last year, I waited a ridiculous amount of time, but I could tell it was backed up and one of the vets even apologized to the whole waiting room. I figured there may have been a good reason for the hold up so I decided to return this year. It was not busy like the last year, but for some reason I still waited a half hour to be taken back by the tech and almost another half hour for the vet to see my dog. There was only one other dog in the waiting area who was there for just a tech visit. Fix the scheduling system so people aren't wasting their time. No one should have to spend over an hour at the vet for 10-15 minutes of being seen. I won't be returning. read more

I give this place no stars. On their door they should put a sign up that says, "Vets in training". To warn other pet owners. Very bad communication in the office. Nobody seems to work together to help with the symptoms or diagnoses. I had a different vet every visit. Should have been a big red flag, he is my first cat. But I always came prepared with videos and all I could think of to help them see my experiences. My 2 cats both have Trupanion health insurance, I was always opened to do and test whatever needed to be done. They failed my 7 year old Bengal cat, he died today in their care. They have also had excuses after excuses, basically calling me a sucker. In the end I find out that they said vets in the office don't know how to treat this breed of cat I had. My cat is an F7 Generation Bengal which is considered a completely regular domestic cat. He was their May 2022 with opened mouth breathing, this so called Vet did nothing I found out recently that she was young and new vet, basically learning on my animal as a stuffed animal, that could care less. I later called the office in frustration wanting to get my office visit if $60 back. I said It was a waste of a visit I told her. One of the ladies at the front desk gave me an excuse and then told me I couldn't get refunded. To now find out she was in training!! I've done tons of research on heart failure, Bengal cats heart failure is no different then any regular cat symptoms. Their internal organs and symptoms are no different. I went with video's and also his heart rate and Rest breathing Rate was also normal. I could tell he was uncomfortable on and off that's why I took him to the vet. His home heart rate was in the 140 to 160 range and his Rest breathing rate was also normal, it was 27 steady breathes. Seemed to have no stress in his numbers. He has also been the same weight, no weight loss. Eating pretty normal. I told them everything today and showed them every video. Today, his visit was supposed to do a heart blood test and X-ray. They didn't do the heart blood work before working on him to see what the function was. They went in and start to get the fluids out. The week before they did just regular blood work, once again no suspicions of any heart issues, with a lot of recent and past symptoms. This year he has had a more then usual coughing, seems to be uncomfortable, if I knew no cough of a pet is normal, in May 2022 open mouth panting breathing, X-rays saying and treated for bronchitis, no blood work or heart blood test. These vet push for people to go to vets with symptoms. Well this goes to show, you can't even trust them. They all want that big fat Vet pay check and be able to get away with taking the life of a family member MY KID! I am concidering to have an autopsy done! What they told me was they went in to remove fluids, I was told he has a tumor on his heart and that caused him into heart failure and died! For the one to many times of excuses it's hard to believe anything they say. It's all just a big joke to the staff in the vet clinic. read more

About two years ago, my dog started having very bad breath and her teeth started looking stained. I asked Dr. Chris if I should have her teeth cleaned, he said no her teeth are fine, try Greenies dental chews. Next year, it's getting worse, so I ask again. He tells me to try Whimzees dental chews instead. He told me two times, and I quote, "Don't waste your money on a teeth cleaning, her teeth are fine". Over the winter we noticed her bottom teeth were loose so I made an appointment to have her teeth cleaned and looked at. When my husband picked our dog up, they had pulled almost every tooth out of her mouth. The vet who did the surgery told my husband, again I am quoting word for word, "Did you ever consider having her teeth cleaned? Her molars were rotting out. Whoever her vet was really dropped the ball because anyone could see they were in bad shape". Come to find out, the vet who did the surgery was Dr. Chris, the same vet who told me not to have her teeth cleaned!!!! I literally cannot make this up. I was very upset and called and explained the situation, the receptionist had an attitude and I was told the office manager would call me. No call. I called again, I was told the office manager would call me back. Again, no call back. Dr. Chris should lose his license for what he did to my dog. Please do not take your pets there!! read more

I was recommended Mill Plain Vet from a friend after I was unhappy at a previous vet office. They are wonderful. Between well visits, repairing my dogs ACL and helping him transition when he got cancer they were always there. I am grateful to all of the Dr's and staff who cared for him. Very sad that Dr. Steinmetz retired and sold his vet clinic to a corporation. We've been going there for 27 years with five different dogs. I called today to get an appointment for one of our dogs who is dying and they referred us to two other vets since they couldn't fit us in. Seriously, after 27 years! I brought my elderly dog here 2 months ago. Asked them to do everything needed as it is difficult to transport him. Well 2 months later I want to board him and the boarding center says he's missing a shot and is way over due for fecal. The vet should inform me of this, not the kennel. Last Saturday, my dog Bello was very ill. I was not entirely happy with the previous vet, and my daughter and I took our hemorrhaging boy to Mill Plain Vets. He was clearly desperately I'll, and I feared the worst. A week later my best companion and loving family member is lying beside me, alive and recovering. I can dream again of our walks and yet un-tried explorations and of future travels with my best buddy; prospects that were all the sweeter to imagine his enjoyment of them with me seemed bitter and flat. Bello is alive today, with hope of a few more good years with my loving, patient, gentle good boy because we went to Mill Plain Vet. They will always be our vets from now on. Our gratitude is profound. The standards of care at Mill Plains Vets is of the highest. They combine professionalism and heart to a rare degree. They were professional in their expertise and integrity; gracious and understanding to my daughter and me; and, perhaps above all, kind and caring to my gentle, sweet boy. He was suffering and dying, and must have been confused and scared. He is a loving boy who does not like being apart from us. The warmth and kind understanding of the staff reassured him. I think he knew from that that they were helping. I can not convey adequately our gratitude to and regard for the fine people at Mill Plain Vets. I have new heroes. Went there for my dog who had a nose infection. Gave me some drops and 2 weeks later I went back for an eye infection as well. Never took a culture of the nose and now 3 months later she had MRSA the whole time and now I have to get her eye removed. I asked the vet to help pay the for the surgery and they said no. My Darla had serious issues with her anal glands. They ruptured and need to be removed. Dr. Steinmetz performed the delicate surgery. There were no complications and Darlas follow-up care was excellent. By far the best vets around the Danbury area! Dr. Steinmetz is excellent, I don't trust my pets with anyone else. I have a rare breed of dog to this area, a Newfoundland, and not only is he educated in the nuances of her breed, he doesn't make the mistakes that so many others have, and the little things, like calling my female a male, he goes over her chart before examining her and remembers the last time that we saw him, whether it was a month or two years. The front desk is amazing at what they do, again, little things like, easy scheduling, a friendly greeting, or follow up calls to make sure the animals are okay. I have been a long time client with a variety of dogs that I have owned over the years and have always had the greatest admiration for Shelly and his staff up until last week. It was on a Saturday where I found myself and my dog having to wait more than forty-five minutes frequently being told I was next. That did not happen- and I had to leave for work. No one called me the entire week to apologize and reschedule. When I called today to make an appointment, i was told I could go somewhere else and my dog's file would be sent to my residence to give to another vet. Wow, what loyalty to long time clients! I will never go back and would never refer anyone to this vet. I always felt important to Shelly but I was wrong. read more

My family has been going to Mill Plain vet for thirty years. We absolutely love them and their staff!

Very nice vets, good service, but overpriced and not willing to work with you. I went in with my Doberman to have her foot x-rayed and I was told that it would cost 95$. When I got the bill they took two X-rays so it was 95$ for the first and 45$ for the second. The x ray was also not enough information for the vet to determine what was wrong and I was told to send it to a bone specialist, at a the convenient price of 149.99$, although there was a possibility the specialist would not being able to determine what was wrong with her. They did find a coupon for the antibiotics that I needed, so that helped. I brought her to Noah's Arc and not only did they see me very quickly, but they grabbed the already done X-rays from Mill Plain and only charged a 63$ office visit, which they gave me a $50 off first visit coupon. I received a phone call a couple of days later saying that they would recommend sending the x-ray off to a bone specialist for 80$. All in all, I was happy with my service at Mill Plain but you can't beat the price differences and the way that Noah's Arc wants to work with you. PLUS they appreciate that some dogs aren't happy at the vet and use a no fear technique. read more

Do yourself and your beloved pet a favor and do not go to Mill Plain Vet.Ive posted reviews 4 times since nov 2018 and the only ones they allow to be seen are the 4 and 5 star reviews,I went to get my pomereranian antibiotics. 2 hours into the appt and them insisting she needed yet another rabie shot ( she had well over 8 to 10} in her 14 yrs My dog was so stressed i myself as well ,that i finally gave in just so i could get her started on the antibiotics. within 5 minutes of the shot she started getting lethargic.I brought her back because she wouldnt eat and threw up the antibiotics everytime i gave it to her.after sitting in waiting room for an emergency visit now ,it wasnt till she threw up an they over heard me telling another patient what they put us thru they brought us in back and with nasty attitudes said to me to just leave Rosie and they would take care of it. She died the next day .her kidneys shut down. She was a healthy happy dog 4 days earlier and i have to live with the quilt that i should stuck to my rights and gut and left. I still cry for her,She was my 3rd child. I garantee you this,this post ,if it even gets posted will be removed like all the others. People do your research and never let a vet bully you into giving your pet a rabie shot.my Rosie would still be here with me if I walked out of there and went to another vet. read more

I went there with my new puppy just because of its location. However, I was very happy with the personnel, so I will be returning for the quality, not the location. I had this very nice young vet, Dr. Sepp, whom I would recommend. By coincidence, the week after my first visit, I was next door dropping my dog off at Doggie Daycare. Dr. Sepp remembered my dog and my dog remembered him and ran up to him, wagging her tail. Always a good sign when your dog likes someone! read more

You will not find more talented, experienced, and compassion veterinarans anywhere. The administrators are also knowledgeable and compassionate. All three vets at one time have worked with my two Old English Sheepdogs, but Dr Quaintance has been my primary caregiver. I recently had to say good bye to my 15 year old whose life was saved twice by Dr. Quaintance, once in 2004 with a severe infection and again in 2011 after she was brutally attacked by another dog. My two dogs idolized her and it was obvious that she equally cared about them. She always spends a great deal of time with me and her suggestions kept my older dog alive far past a normal lifespan for the breed. When I did have to say goodbye to my older sheepdog, I could not have asked for more compassion,kindness, and understanding. It made a heart wrenching experience just a bit easier. I will continue to bring my younger sheepdog to Dr Quaintance as well as any future dogs I may own. You cannot be in any better hands. I volunteer in rescue and have owned dogs over 25 years. Dr. Steinmetz is the absolute best vet ever! We live 1 1/2 hours away, and have been unable to find a local vet to equal his caliber. We've been bringing our cats to him for 20 years! He's saved our 18 year old tabby many times, and has even done so free of charge when we had spent a lot on surgery & boarding. When I lived in Danbury, I went to this clinic in 2003 because my 8 year old dog was limping with his back leg. To my suprise, the doctor there was very clinical, cold and phyiscally pressed on my dog's back so hard that he yelped in a pain. His yelp was the worst I heard from him. They gave my pain pills and I went home feeling that he wasn't treated with the proper care. A few hours later, my dog couldn't move his hind legs and he followed me around the house dragging his hind quarters, afraid to leave my side. I called the clinic and they referred me to a wonderful hospital in NJ, Vertinary Specialists, where there were very careful with my dog and were able to determine what happened through tests. My dog had an embolism in his spine; they reduced the swelling and he was able to walk again. The only animal I would bring to Mill Plain is one that died beforehand because they couldn't make it any worse. read more

I have to say I am extremely unhappy. I went there on day and then I had to bring my dog back again. I called before I came they charged me sitting fees back to back even though I was there the day before and I explained he was not feeling well. I was told on the phone they would not charge me a exam fee, but they did and I could hear them talking about me while I was in the nex troom they were in the lobby. Very unproffesional and I am said that you get one two answers as the lady said on the phone if we charged you its like highway robbery! read more

I recently took the very large puppy I am caring for to Dr. Kaeser for a booster shot and follow up examination for a skin condition. The pup had received all but one of her vaccinations and some antibiotics for her skin condition from her vet in upstate New York . This was the first time I had been to Mill Plain Veterinary Clinic, and I found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Kaeser gave her the shot and examined her skin, pointing out that she was still not better. She wrote and filled a prescription which I learned when I examined it at home was for the same antibiotic the New York vet had prescribed.- the difference was that the New York vet told me to get the prescription filled at Walmart or Target for $8.00 and the Mill Plain Veterinary Clinic & Animal Hospital charged $144.00 for the same prescription. The moral of the story - examine your bill carefully before you take a prescription they give you home and remember to ask if there is any way you can save money. They don't volunteer this information to their trusting patrons. read more
