Unsatisfied customer. After inquiring about a total of 5 windows and 1 sliding door, we had the contractor come out and take measurements. The quote seemed fair and we decided to go ahead with it. Final measurements were taken (measure twice, cut once, right?) at the physical location. After sending a verbal/text confirmation I wanted to proceed with the order, I was told the order was placed. I waited nearly 4 weeks with no word back. I was initially told that the windows take 2-3 weeks to come in. After contacting the contractor, I was provided with very little detail as to the order status... just that 'they didn't come in', etc. I had to keep inquiring myself. After some back and forth, I contacted the supplier 'Alside' and attempted to get to the bottom of this myself, as it was then 6 weeks since I placed the order. In the end, without much information from the contractor, I was able to get information from Alside and found out that the actual order was not placed until 1 month after I gave the contractor the go-ahead to place the order (as the supplier and Alside go back and forth to confirm measurements). It also took a total of 9 weeks to get the windows and door in. Due to the lack of communication and unprofessionalism, we decided not to have the contractor install the windows and doors. We paid him for the windows and doors (as labor was going to be included - due to a promotion they had). Once we had our own contractor install them, we discovered that the measurements for 3 of the windows and the sliding door were off (in both the x and y axis) by 4 inches. While there was no issue installing them, they are significantly smaller than what could have gone there. They let in less light and when you look from the outside, they seem like 'hobbit' windows compared to what was there. Also, while all doors in our house (I measured) at 79.5" - 80" tall (the physical opening of the door), the sliding door is 76" tall. I feel like I have to almost duck to get out of my house into the back yard, because the door height is only a few inches taller than me. We are luck that we are not any taller! The old door was 80" height. The measurements were taken from the inside of the house and did not take into account the enclosed frame of the old windows and sliding door. The measurements should have been taken from the outside of the house from the frame opening, rather than from the floor height from the inside.
We are glad we did not have him install, as I flipped a lid when my contractor laughed at the window sizes when he went to install them.
Obviously, we could not return the windows and the contractor (from Room2Room Construction) just said 'well, you fired me from install' and was nothing but sarcastic and dismissive that anything was his fault. read more
