Two stars because the drinks were decent, but one star for the ambiance (or lack thereof). After the hype Room 520 received, I made a reservation to surprise my friends and it was so disappointing. For one thing, it's not even really a surprise. The reviews describe Sova as a hotel but I mean, the hotel has a bar. A bar that takes up the entire lobby so you can't even tell this is a hotel. You walk into a bar so you can ask for a code to go to another bar? Am I the only one who finds this silly? I was under the impression that you walk into a hotel, get a code, take the elevator up to the room, and *then* there's the bar (surprise!), but that's not the case. The decor wasn't as advertised either. The room was fairly bright, with minimal decorations and none of the neon text or plants showed in the photos. Instead, there were weirdly small pieces of art on the walls that looked out-of-place. The experience was like drinking a $15 cocktail in a dentist's waiting room. On top of all of this, the bartender seemed tired and unhappy to be there even though it wasn't even 8pm yet, which made the whole thing awkward since the room is tiny. Not sure if I somehow went to a completely different Room 520 than everyone else, but I'm not sure why anyone would come here. I'd highly recommend finding another Dallas speakeasy to go to--there are plenty of cool ones--but if you still decide to try Room 520, the Little Zesty is good for those who like refreshing cocktails and the Tequila in Tokyo is good if you tend to like Japanese liquor. read more

My gf surprised me for drinks here after dinner Saturday night and what a treat! The speakeasy is a converted micro hotel room located in SOVA on the third floor. The place is very small but cozy. Nice lighting and relaxing ambiance. The drinks were Japanese inspired and amazing! The bartender and his playlist were on point. After being there for an hour we were advised that there were others waiting to come upstairs and that we had to take our drinks down to the bar due to capacity. We would've wanted to stay there a bit longer but the place is extremely small so we understood. And since the hotel bar area had a cool vibe we didn't mind. The bartender downstairs was great and so were the drinks. I highly recommend Sova and Room 520. read more

My friends and I are on a speakeasy tour around the metroplex. We heard about a speakeasy in a hotel in downtown Dallas and knew we had to try it out. It is best to have a reservation because it is the size of a normal hotel room. When we got in let me tell you the vibe was amazing. The records that were spinning had us jamming until it was time to leave. The curator was at the bar and let us know about upcoming events and how he curated the vinyl's that he was spinning. All in all, this place checked off all the boxes for an intimate location, amazing drinks, awesome décor, and music. read more

A WHOLE VIBE!! Perfect for grabbing a drink after/before dinner. There is no food, only a drink menu which consists of 4 drinks! THEY ARE ALL BOMB!! This is more so for a great experience; a place to unwind, sip on a cocktail, & hear some good tunes. Bartender/DJ was super sweet & attentive. You go to the front desk and ask for room 520, they give you a card with a code, & you have to find the room to unlock the hidden gem. Definitely worth a visit, we will be back!! ENJOY!! read more

Such a fun idea with true speakeasy vibes! We made a reservation for early on a Friday. We did wait about 20 min after our reservation to be sent up. When we were sat we overheard the bartenders stressing because they didn't want to kick people out who had reached there time limit. Not a great system for shy bartenders and guests over staying their visit. We ordered our drinks and the bartender came back about 5 min later apologized for the wait and said they forgot about the order so first round was on the house. Hey it happens I appreciate the fix. Ok this was quite the surprise. Our friends made reservations and we checked at the front desk. They told us they had to go "check capacity" which we thought was interesting... until we went in. Haha We took the elevator to the 3rd floor and entered the code they gave us to room 520 and went in to discover this was literally a room the size of the *very* small hotel room that's been converted into a bar. To be fair, the bar tender was super kind and the cocktails were pretty good. They all had Japanese names, which was interesting but didn't seem to fit any theme. They also gave us free shots at one point just before we left! Much appreciated. Seating capacity seemed to be about 15 squeezing in. I would have taken more pics but it would have meant taking a picture of people who were sitting like 2 feet away from me. It was tight. read more

Exclusive and private speakeasy downtown. Be warned this place is small and dark, so it's like being in a black hotel room. But that can make the perfect vibe if you're looking for something private and chic. But it's open, and it's a neat experience. They're brand new (opened last week), and a better sound system and a more conscious music mix will make this spot even better! But, they're off to a great start. This would be the perfect spot for a date after dinner, as long as it's a good date cause this is just a room, once you're in, you're in! Tip: make a reservation on Open Table and at the lobby ask to check in to Room 520. You'll get a card with a code and the bar is on the 3rd floor. Wasn't Impressed. The pictures on their IG looked nothing like the actual room. There were no signs and nice seating. There was limited seating which is expected as it's an actual hotel room. But you literally would have to wait for someone to get up and leave to have somewhere to sit which defeats the purpose of having reservations to go as clearly the limit was over the seating capacity. As far as the drinks they were all $15 and I got the old fashioned. It was pretty decent. Overall not a place I would rush to go back to. The room is super small and the decor feels like a college dorm room with the lights turned way low. There were roughly 5 drink options that were not unique -- margarita, old fashioned, and manhattan to name a few. The only real positive was the service. I love speakeasy bars, so decided to stop by here for some drinks. Super cool concept, as others said. But, I was very disappointed in their drink offerings. They only have 4-5 options on their menu, and each of them were super sweet in my opinion. Even the whiskey based cocktails that were "spirit forward" were sweet, as they use pre-mixed mixers with their cocktails. I stayed here for a weekend night and was so excited about the speakeasy when booking the hotel. i had researched it online (the hotel never said anything about it) and when i finally arrived they told me it was reservation only and it was full for my stay... i understand this is a popular spot, but it's extremely awkward for the hotel to deny entry when you're literally in a room down the hall from the speakeasy. Please communicate better with hotel guests for upcoming stays, we would love to experience this too. Room 520 is the perfect vibe for a date night, fun VIP experience, and something different to do in dallas. The drinks are top-tier and some of the most unique I've had in dallas. The experience is very intimate. The bartender Andres was so welcoming and personalized the experience. He made sure the drinks were to our liking and that we were having a good time. Great music. The speak easy itself is fun to try to find because you are given a code at the front desk of the hotel (SOVA) and you have to figure out where the actual speak easy is. I won't say anymore because spoilers! Sova itself is a fun social hotel to stay in as well. In a perfect location and amazing coffee. Super cool concept, but that's where it stops. Went opening week, so perhaps it has improved since then, but my experience was extremely underwhelming. The bartender was not friendly and less than helpful. Only a few cocktails, and unless you love extremely sweet drinks, you will be highly disappointed. They didn't have any liquors to make classic Cocktails, or any other drinks that's not on their menu. Hopefully they get better over time read more
