Oh Rook Coffee, where were you all the years I was commuting into the city from the Little Silver train station? You would have saved me my sanity! But I am so glad you found your way there, because when I head down to visit family I can stop by, grab a coffee, and stock up on all the cold brews you have to offer. I must say I mostly just stick to Rook's cold brew offerings. They are always so good. I love their seasonal brews and if they don't have one available their mocha cold brew is always there as back up! Their coffee is strong and delicious. The service is always friendly. And the location in the train station is cute and convenient. I always remember to stock up on their cold brew concentrate when I am there. Their cinnamon vanilla seasonal cold brew is delicious and I always bring home a mocha one. I've heard tales of a S'mores seasonal cold brew that I must try. I have to say, I absolutely love Rook New Orleans Iced Coffee, if you love real coffee that actually has taste you need to try this blend. The shop is great, it's connected to the train station. Convenient and quick coffee spot right on the tracks. I enjoy their coffee the most compared to other local independent coffee shops. I feel like the beans are the proper type and flavor for me. I will say that they can run very busy at rush hour times so that might mean that youre out of luck for more involved drinks such as lattes or cappuccinos when pressed to catch your train. read more

I once got on such an early train leaving Little Silver, this place wasn't even open yet. But the aroma of the coffee was seeping out the cracks around the doors and windows, almost teasing me. Never in all my life did I want something so bad that I couldn't have. So I made it a point to try to time my next train at a later time so I could come here when they were actually open. Today, I hit the jackpot. I was greeted by a friendly batista offering three different kinds of coffee. I went with the Ethiopian. Duh. That is, after all, the birthplace of coffee. The blueberry danish was probably not made on site but was still good. The coffee, danish and a bottle of water only came to $6.55. Very reasonable, especially considering this place is the only option for coffee at the train station and the ambiance and smell of fresh brew suck you in. read more

Not really sure what kind of newsstand/early morning coffee place used to inhabit this train station over the years, but I'd say putting a Rook coffee spot in it is an excellent use of what always seemed like a wasted space to me because whatever was there would be shuttered by noon. If you like Rook coffee in general then there's not much I can tell you, so I'll just say a cup of their quality joe or the iced latte is definitely arefreshing way to make a mundane train ride to NYC more enjoyable. read more

Placed a text order for a coffee. Arrived to a s** show. Took 10 minutes to make it to the counter to pay and pick up my drink. Paid and stood around another 10 minutes. Finally got one of them to notice me. When I asked about my order they asked what my order number was. I saw the stack of unfulfilled text orders and told them forget it. I ate the $3.00 and left. Coffee doesn't get any better than this! And the folks working there are always pleasant and smiling. As an ex-train commuter, I went thru 4 or 5 concession operators at the Little Silver train station. These folks are great. And the "proof is in the pudding", when I started commuting by train, there were 2 Handicapped parking spots and 1 "10 minute" spot. Since Rook has been in, the "10 minute" spots have been increased to (I believe about) 6 or 7! (This must tick-off the Little Silver commuters... that was always their designated "privileged" parking area.) HA! Nice going', Rook. Keep up the good work! I ordered a Costa Rica and an apple danish (on the cashier's recommendation), and was pleasantly surprised by how good both items were. The Costa Rica was smooth and light. The apple danish was shockingly good, with great flavor and flaky, buttery pastry. Minus one star for two things: (1) absurdly slow service (I nearly missed my train waiting for my coffee), and (2) the lack of bagel toasting apparatus. I originally wanted a bagel, but had to abort my mission when I was told they couldn't toast it for me. What self-respecting coffee shop doesn't have the equipment to toast bagels?! read more

The one issue with this specific location is the attitude of the workers. Plus, in my judgement they are not top performers and don't strive to provide quality customer support. While I enjoy the coffee that Rook offers, the employees here are quite rude and snarky. I'm not sure why they believe they are above the customers, but that is something that should be dealt with by management. I walked in, waited for the workers to end their conversation before being asked what my order is. To make it worse, the cashier gave me a huge attitude, being I forgot to tell her which type of brew I had ordered (sometimes I lose my train of thought- didn't know it was a crime). I also apologized right away since she seemed SO annoyed, which shouldn't be my concern as a customer. There is nothing better than rook coffee. Every shop is a fun experience with knowledgeable and efficient coffee production. However, little silver train station is constantly lacking in the strengths of the other shops. It's a limited space but there's clearly no effort by staff to make it flow smoothly. The order of service is haphazard. And the time it takes to make each coffee is longer than their other shops. Hope it improves. Unfortunately it is my closest store. Been a growing connoisseur of coffee for several years now. Bought an expensive Technovorm coffee maker and high-grade bean grinder. Up until recently I bought large whole bean bags of Starbucks coffee from the local price club. A friend turned me on to Rook coffee. Thing was, driving to the Little Silver train station wasn't the most convenient option for me. Then, one day when I actually was commuting by train, I stopped inside the station and picked up my first bag of Sumatra whole bean coffee. Now, mind you, that is their boldest flavor of coffee and I was a bit afraid that it would be too strong for my liking. Imagine how surprised I was when I sipped my first freshly ground cup of Sumatra only to discover its smoothness. What astonished me the most was that it didn't have the bitter aftertaste that Starbucks medium blend gave me. A month later I tried their Costa Rica coffee. That was even better! It had a rather sweet finish to it that I really appreciated. Again, very smooth on the palate. The coffee is rather expensive when compared to even Starbucks. A bag that costs $12.50 will last me just under a month (as I like my coffee strong). However, once you taste really good coffee, there is no going back to the old brand. The next flavor that is being recommended to me is the Flores, which I will try upon my next visit. The staff is very nice. Seems like the owner staffed the place with young, cute women with beautiful smiles on their faces. All of them very nice and eager to help you with your order or answer questions. Consider me a loyal Rook customer. There is nothing is better to start your morning with! read more

Listen, I love Rook. I frequent their Red Bank location, along with this one and always leave satisfied. I consider myself a good customer, always tipping my .95 change and being pleasant with the employees, but somehow I guess I ticked them off and caused them to give me major attitude. I ordered my usual drink, a New Orleans with milk and sugar. Somehow, my coffee came out white, clearly with creme, which was not at all what I ordered. When I inquired about this, I was told that was in fact what I ordered. Unless all Rook locations are going off of different guidelines, I'm pretty sure they messed up my drink. I also hold one of those punch cards you get for ordering drinks, and when I gave the barista my card, she stamped over an existing stamp. I'm sure it was just a busy day and everyone was rushed, but just a bit mad. read more

I LOVE Rook! The quality of the coffee is always outstanding , the flavors of each coffee blend are uniquely different I have tried every blend! When I go to Starbucks their brews claim to have different blends and flavors ( example Christmas blend or thanksgiving blend ) but their coffee tastes the same flat taste to me. With Rook I love to drink their hot coffees black with a little sugar so I can thoroughly enjoy and taste each note that makes every blend different from eachother. Excellent read more

Not sure what the previous person was talking about...this place is great! I go almost every morning on my way to work. The bagels are spectacular...crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. The staff is amazing...always friendly and professional and get you in and out quickly and efficiently. All of the coffees are great. You can tell the owners are meticulous about choosing their beans...and they know the proper way to brew a cup of coffee. The Cold Brew is perfect! Don't listen to bad reviews...and don't miss any of their locations. This place is the best for coffee, bagels and pastries...oh, and the iced teas are awesome too! read more

In the train station. Very popular because of the location and captive audience of commuters. Staff is great, but coffee not so much. Tastes good, but just not hot. I'm not one of those who like extremely hot coffee - is just that its just not hot enough. I've opted for 7-11 or Willow Deli (close by) for hot coffee whenever I get the chance. Also, various breads and muffins taste day-old. One last thing that sucks - Rook keeps commuters our of their own train station even in freezing rain, snowstorm conditions (anytime before 6:00). I love, love, love Rook Coffee.. For the last several years I mostly bought the other DD brand, just because I disliked SB so intensely.. What a pleasure to have another viable coffee option!! Rook coffee is consistently delicious and each cup is made fresh every single time. I am a decaf girl and I have had to drink countless burned decaf dregs at other coffee chains. Yuck! With Rook i get fresh coffee and foamy cream every time, along with smiling happy faces and delicious treats.I have patronized both the Little Silver and Long Branch locations, and had a great experience at both.
